When the Reader Descends Into the Novel With a System

Darkness and light. Two extremes coexisting. A law of equivalent exchange, balancing the world. Where there is light, there must be darkness. And as such, where there is darkness, there must be light. That is the rule of the world my child, and you are the one balancing on the fine line, stuck in between. An anomaly. An abomination. Where you go, death and destruction follow. That will be your fate. You are the one and only son of the darkness, mothered by the daughter of the light. What path will you walk my child? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is the story of Kurayami Akimitsu, a contradiction of light and darkness, and I, who reincarnated into his body. In this world based off a novel I had read, what will happen with the addition of me, an unknown entity? Who knows everything about the future of this world. Will I survive with this identity? Only time will tell. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Currently on HIATUS. This is my WSA 2022 submission. A/N: So this is going to be the second novel that I will seriously write, with an upload rate of 7 chapters a week. My inspirations for this novel were TAPOV (The Author's POV) and DWTN (Dance With the Nightingale) but the world building will be extremely different and the backstory of the MC will be unique also. The ranking system will be the same, but it's the same ranking system across a lot of novels, so I think it's okay for me to use? There also might be cliches like an academy and an auction, but again, I'll make it as different from the norm as possible. I hope that this will be a refreshing take on the "mob character becoming overpowered genre" for you guys. Release Rate: Check the schedule Chapter Length: 1000-1500 words per chapter My chapters are edited by myself, so forgive me if I make any mistakes. Just comment if there is a mistake anywhere. The first 10 or so chapters are filled with world building stuff, so I hope you'll stick with it and read it as I tried to make it all original. After the first 10, the story should pick up and the action will start, so please don't drop it after only reading a few chapters. Discord Link: https://discord.gg/8ePQESSSHT Finally, as always, thanks for reading! All names, characters, and incidents portrayed in this story are purely fictitious. No identification with actual persons (living or deceased), places, or products are intended. Note: The cover doesn't belong to me. If you are the original owner and want me to take it down, please leave a comment on my latest chapter.

Formulating My Plans - 1

A few moments later:

'So not only did I get transmigrated into a pretty good body, well, in terms of strength anyways, but I also got a system?'

'Wouldn't this just make me too OP?'

But, when I looked back at the system, the glimpses of unknown memories popped back up in my head.

'This system... it seems different from the usual ones that are shown in other novels.'

I mean, it looked like the system would be of no help to me.

There were no cheat shops, no world-hopping feature, and no level-up system. There was just nothing except for this synchronization thing.

But those words were bothering me, I mean, what did the system mean by "final transmigration"?

'Does that mean that this isn't my first time?'

And if this wasn't my first time, then did that mean that all of those synchronization rates were for past transmigrations that I had been into and had just forgotten?

'Well, that would make a lot of sense as the names next to those synchronization rates were all names of books that I'd read before.'

Well, there was no point in guessing anymore as I would find out soon enough when those synchronization rates went up.

Right now, I needed to make a list of all the cheat items and other stuff I could get right now.

"So I'll need those 4 manuals, that one art, and those 2 skill books."

As I wanted to keep a low profile if possible, that meant that I couldn't affect the storyline that much, so the items that I was going to get were all things that villains were going to find.

'Well, I'm a future villain myself so I guess it's okay.'

I mean, I wasn't doing this to keep the storyline intact, I just was doing it as it gave me the best chance of surviving the oncoming war. What would happen if I accidentally stole a really important life-saving power from the protagonist and this inadvertently caused him to die a dumb death in the middle of the war that he was supposed to end.

After all, the protagonist was supposed to be the upcoming greatest magic swordsman of all time, so if he ended up like Achilles, that would just mean that I would need to risk my life even more and get involved in the novel's main events.

I mean, getting only a few OP powers would probably give me an almost 100% chance of surviving the upcoming arcs in the story, whatever they may be, especially if I acted like a mob character.

'Hmm, so what should I get first?'

'Well, if I want to focus on that, then I should probably get that built first.'

I stood up and then brought the water basin back to its original position. I then dried the floor as best as possible, changed out of my wet clothes, and then wrung my long hair dry.

I then sat down in a lotus position on my bed and looked inside of my body.

Using Akimitsu's memories, I found the source of my "spiritual power", which was centered around my heart.

Looking at the spiritual power, I just became amazed.

'This Akimitsu guy really worked hard.'

From his memories, I knew that the last order that he received from the "Monarch of Darkness" was to become stronger physically.

So instead of practicing a manual or art, and banned from using stigmas, Akimitsu had spent the last 10 years of his life, training, breaking, and reshaping his body.

The training and breaking of his body was for the obvious reason of getting stronger, but the reshaping was so that he didn't stand out from his peers.

I mean, if you saw a really buff, swole, and handsome 15 year old on the street, wouldn't you just stare at him unconsciously?

So instead of making his muscles bigger, he had compressed them, increasing his muscle mass while making himself still look like an only slightly fit teenager. His body actually looked a lot like mine when I was a teenager, with only slightly visible abs that looked like they were only showing because he hadn't gotten enough food, and the muscles on his arms and legs were pretty lean, with only some definition showing on them.

I mean, both of our bodies looked lanky and malnourished, although Akimitsu's body was already way taller than my old one.

But the thing that I found truly impressive was the circulation of spiritual power in his body.

I mean, it wasn't really special or anything, being able to circulate spiritual power in a person's body, but the thing was that he was unconsciously circulating the spiritual power at all times.

This method would make it so that he was always increasing his capacity for spiritual power! Be it little by little.

The problem with using this method was that it was extremely painful in the beginning, as most people only circulated their spiritual energy for a sudden burst in physical power.

So continuously circulating your spiritual power meant that you were always in a state of enhanced physical capabilities. Doing this would immensely strain the muscles and bones in your body, basically turning them all into mush.

Or course, he had only been able to survive through this process with his "Accelerated Healing" stigma which had been the only stigma that he had been allowed to use, and only for the period of time when he was first circulating his spiritual power through his body.

And now, after 7 years of practicing this method, he could do it unconsciously.

It was basically like being in a "superhuman" mode at all times and was something that supposedly, only masters could do.

Now that I thought about it, he would have been the perfect assassin with this body, probably good enough to join the hero's party which I knew for sure needed a fast damage dealer to balance it out with all those heavy and slow characters in it.

So now that he had accomplished all this, and because there was only a month until the admission test into Laramil Academy, the "Monarch of Darkness" had finally allowed him to learn from manuals and get skill books.

I was allowed to ask for 1 skill book and 1 item from the Monarch's treasury to start myself off.

I pushed my spiritual energy up to my ears, and then through the earrings that hung there.

They were a pair of earrings that had been gifted to me by the "Monarch of Darkness". The earrings were shaped like long teardrops, each made up of pure titanium with a gem in the center. The first gem was so white that when it reflected the sunlight, it shined bright enough that it could blind a person. The other one was black, as black as an endless abyss that naturally drew your gaze in. So with one earring pushing people away and one that pulled people in, the effects were balanced out.

Each teardrop hung from a chain that was the opposite color of the gem, and the chain was then attached to my ears.

(A/N: Here's a picture of the earring without the chain or the gem for reference.)

As spiritual energy was pushed into them, two girls appeared from inside my shadow.

At first glance, you could tell that they were twins, one with white hair and one with black hair respectively.

Of course, these were the two twins that had been born before me in the lab, so technically, they were my older sisters.

Iris, the one with the short white hair, had been born with the Earth, Wind, Space, Life, Skin Transformation, Accelerated Healing, and Foresight stigmas.

Indira, the one with the long black hair, had been born with the Fire, Water, Time, Gigantification, Wind Walking, Illusory Power, and Necromancy stigmas.

They were both the same and the exact opposites of each other, a true contradiction.

Working together, they could probably have taken my spot as the heir of the "Monarch of Darkness", but because they were deemed failures, they were now my shadows, sworn to serve me until the end of time.

They had each been given a skill that let them traverse through the darkness dimension, which allowed them to become the perfect messengers between the Monarch and Akimitsu.

(A/N: Something like the Nether in Minecraft.)

They were also trained as assassins from birth and were my direct bodyguards, having each already gotten to 7 stars in their manuals even though they were only born a few months before me.

After thinking for a while, I found what skill and what item I wanted from my memories of what was in the treasury and immediately relayed my request to them, in which they would then relay my request to the Monarch.

Sending them off, I then started packing a bag with all the necessities that I would need for the next week, as I now planned to find the manuals, arts, and skills that my current self needed.

Second out of 10.

Thanks for reading!
