Chapter 67

Catherine didn't have to think long and hard about what was happening here. She was given the chance to strike down her brother herself. Although she wanted to become the queen that didn't mean she wanted to kill her brother to achieve it and she had never killed anyone before. How was she supposed to do this? Chaos was meant to be the one who would kill her brother. If needed "I-I can't," she trembled, not having the courage to do this.

Darius used her sacred state to snatch the sword from his sister but it wouldn't bulge as if it was a part of her. "What the hell is with this damn sword. I don't care if you are my sister, Catherine. I will have you locked up for trying to kill me. You better put this sword down while you still have the chance."

Catherine tried to drop the sword from her hand but it wouldn't release even when she tried to let go of it. "It's not coming off. Help me," she started to cry. She didn't want to hurt her brother with the sword and the sword not falling out of her hands made her panic.

"Of course, it's not coming out of your hands. This is a special sword that sticks onto a person until they have killed the person on their mind. Try thinking of someone else, princess. Maybe a random guard or Alexander? When you kill them, you are free to let go of the sword but since your brother is on your mind, why don't you go ahead and get rid of him?"

"No-ah," Catherine winced from a pain forming in her chest. "What is happening to me?"

"Oh yes, the sword will start to kill you if you don't use it on someone else. Once summoned, it has to kill someone, and don't think that someone will be me as the sword won't harm me. Time is passing by quickly, princess. What is it going to be? Yourself, your brother, a guard, or perhaps Alexander?" Chaos proposed. He thoroughly enjoyed the sight of the princess being conflicted on what to do. The answer was obvious to Chaos.

Catherine thought about it as the pain increased. The guards were nowhere near breaking down the doors to protect them and they had no clue where Alexander was. Chaos had given her two impossible options other than just killing her brother. Catherine knew that if Darius was in this position he would save himself and she needed to do the same. He had a good enough life so she wasn't taking anything away from him. "I'm sorry brother," she closed her eyes and let the sword take control of her.

"Catherine!" Darius exclaimed using his hand to block the sword but it sliced right through his hand and the side of his body. The sword got stuck halfway and when it was pulled out, it left Darius alive to slowly bleed out as his organs slipped from his body where he had been badly wounded. "How could you…" he trailed off as his vision blurred. Darius attempted to hold onto his insides and push them back in but it wasn't helping the situation.

"I'm sorry," Catherine cried harder when she opened her eyes and saw the state of her brother. It was either her or him and she had to make the right choice. Her desire to become queen had placed her in this predicament but she believed Darius was partially at fault because he kept looking for ways to use her.

"B-Becoming queen…won't make… you…happy," Darius pushed himself to warn his sister. The crown was much heavier than it appeared to be. The responsibility, the pressure, the stress, the worry, and more will have Catherine wishing she never did this. "Good luck," he said just before his body slumped sideways and the sword finally fell from Catherine's hands.

Catherine covered her mouth with her hands panicking from the sight of her dead brother. "How could I? He's gone," she wept looking down at her brother. She killed the last of her immediate family. They were supposed to stick together after their parents died but she had killed him.

"Well done princess," Chaos clapped his hands going down to her level to collect the sword which belonged to the underworld. "I'll take this back."

"What did you do?" Catherine asked Chaos since he was the one that plotted all of this. She would not have the idea to become queen and get rid of her brother if not for Chaos. It was one thing for her to plot against her brother to become queen but it was another to actually kill him with her own hands.

Chaos shook his head disappointed that the princess was giving him all the credit. "Let me get something straight here princess, I bring out the desires that people have on the inside of them. I can only twist what has been there and use it to my advantage. You made a deal with me to become queen and I helped you with it. You were the one who let yourself become greedy, wanting more than you should have. In the end, we both got what we wanted."

"If you wanted my brother dead, why didn't you just do it yourself instead of entertaining me?"

"It is simple. I use humans not kill them. Unfortunately, the rule about killing humans applies to me in some ways so I couldn't kill him. My mistress might like it if I kill you too but there are no humans here to do the job for me. Till we meet again, queen," Chaos disappeared into thin air just as the doors opened.
