Blood Must Not Have Blood

Once we're out, Octavia tells me to go back to the tent, and she'll stay near here where the radio is in range. When I get back to the tent, Indra and Lexa are still there. "Where's Octavia?" Indra asks as soon as she doesn't see her. "She's watching over camp." I say. "So Clarke, tell us, how does this end? Did you come up with a way to save your people again?" I hear slight anger in her voice. "No. Only you can do that. Your army was sent to protect us and my people killed them. You have every right to respond and wipe us out, or you can change the way you do things." I say. "Why should she change? Blood must have blood." Indra says. "Really? Because from where I stand the only way that ends is with everyone dead." I turn to Lexa. "What kind of leader do you want to be? The kind who kills every chance she gets because that's your way? Or the kind who shows the world a better way?" "You consider letting a massacre go unavenged a better way?" Lexa asks angrily. "If it ends the cycle of violence then yes. If it brings peace then yes. Someone has to take the first step. Let it be you." I say, looking into her eyes. She turns away from me. "You say you want peace, and everything you've done was to achieve that, yet here we stand in the brink of another war." She turns back to me, and looks into my eyes. "A war you can stop." I say. "Commander, you can't seriously be considering this." Indra says to her. "I'm not considering it, I'm doing it." I let out a small smile. "Heda please." Indra says. "Our people act as if war is easier than peace. If that's so, should we not try to achieve the more difficult goal?" "Polis will not support you. Titus will-" Lexa cuts Indra off. "Titus is my subject. They're all my subjects!" Lexa yells. "Do you say they will defy me?" Lexa steps closer to Indra. "Will you defy me?" "No Heda, I will not." Indra replies. "Then let it be known." Lexa turns to me. "Blood must not have blood." She says.
