Idiots Must Pay

Early in the morning, Diana received an e-mail from the Supervisor, Bryan Cook.

Upon receiving the notification on her phone, she thought she's being called back to work. She quickly opened the e-mail.

Unfortunately, that was not the content of his e-mail.

Instead of calling her back to work, he notified her that she will no longer be able to work at Hopton Research Institute.

Diana's eyes were about to tear up. She can't believe how they treat their employees. She couldn't explain how she is feeling.

She felt like shouting, crying, and even slapping at the real culprit.

Knock! Knock!

Heather knocked on Diana's door. "I prepared breakfast."

When Diana didn't answer, Heather knocked again, twisting the knob and finding it unlocked.

"Hey. Breakfast is--" Heather saw Diana's facial expression while she looked at her phone. "What happened?"

Diana looked up, feeling gloomy. "Fired."

Heather gasped. "What?! Didn't you e-mailed HR last night?"

"Yeah. The Manager just e-mailed me." Diana got up from bed and went to the kitchen, Heather followed. She took a cup from the cupboard and poured herself some water. She felt her throat dry as she thought about being fired for reasons that were not her fault.

"The HR didn't even investigate?!" Heather was fuming. She slapped her hand on the granite table and didn't care that it stung a little.

"This is so wrong. If that's the case then, we'll have people from my department visit them. Let the surveillance footage speak for itself." Heather decided. Diana nodded.

Diana won't let this slide. This is not a minor incident that will not leave a stain on her reputation. This will affect how employers will review her resume in the future. She needs to make things clear.

After having breakfast, Diana followed Heather to the Oxfield Crime Department.

"Morning!" Heather greeted her colleagues as they entered. She was not her usual energetic self. She had a cold air about her that the senior employees found intimidating. She has just joined them as soon as she graduated and should have been like the other newbies. And yet, she had proven to them that she's more than capable as any other senior officer in their department. She quickly earned their respect.

"Morning! Oh hey, Heather, who are you with?" one of her male colleagues asked, interested in the beautiful girl Heather brought.

"My friend. Is the boss in?" Heather asked perfunctorily.

"Chief Michaels? Yeah, he's in," he answered, standing up. "Hello, I'm Ed Meyer, would you mind telling me your name?"

"Good morning. Nice to meet you. Just call me Diana." she politely greeted him.

"Pleasure to meet you, Diana," Ed said, smiling.

"Come on Di, let's go to the Chief's office." Heather pulled Diana's hand and led her to the office.

"Should we really go directly like this? Do you want me to wait outside?" Diana didn't want to give her trouble.

"No, it's okay.... Chief.. I need your help.."

"Eh..Bennett, no good morning first?"

"...Good morning Chief.." She said bashfully.

"Alright. So who did you bring with you?" The chief was a middle-aged-looking man with slightly grey hair and a mustache.

"This is my friend. Diana Winchester..."

"Nice to meet you Chief.."

"Ah.. pleasure's all mine, Ms. Winchester.. so what's going on?" The chief went straight to asking them since he still has so many things to do.

"It's about this, she worked at a research institute and was framed by someone causing her to be terminated without even an investigation."

"Sorry to hear that.. so what exactly do you need help with?"

"It's like this chief..." Heather told him about her plan, to which the chief kept on nodding.

The talk with the Chief was quick. He didn't need much convincing. He immediately issued an order to search for the surveillance footage at Hopton Research Institute.

On the way to the building, Heather asked Diana. " What's the plan after you're proven innocent?"

"Look for another job," Diana said, numbly.

Heather took a long look at her and nodded. "I figured you would say that. I would do the same if I was in your shoes."

Even if the Institute will revoke her termination, she won't feel comfortable working with people who didn't even investigate first before judging her so cruelly.

"Why don't I drop you off at a nearby Internet Cafe so you can type out your letter while we handle the rest? Hmm?" Heather proposed.

"Okay. Thank you." Diana said, softly.

Heather sighed, patting her hand.

Diana got out of the car, went into an Internet Cafe, and started making her resignation letter.

She has complete confidence that after the investigation, they will regret their decision as they will be sued for handling it unjustly.

Heather and another colleague went to the reception desk of Hopton Research Institute but were made to wait until a Supervisor will meet them.

"Have you called President Carmichael?" Lucas asked Ethan.

"I just got off the phone with him. He was apologizing the whole time." Ethan started but stopped when he noticed Lucas's icy glare.

Of course, why would he care about how long they apologize. He just wants results.

Ethan cleared his throat. "He's sending out a team to investigate the whole incident."

"What more does he need? Isn't that voice recording enough?" Lucas growled.

"He also mentioned that Ms. Diana reached out to HR last night via e-mail, asking them to investigate. So they were already doing that earlier. But he'll have their teamwork at double speed so they can give justice to Ms. Diana. They will have a Manager personally bring Ms. Diana back."

"What's the point of going back there?" Lucas slammed his fist on the table. His anger has been brewing since the previous day when he found out.

At this, Ethan was at a loss on what kind of result Lucas wants.

He didn't need to wonder that long, for Lucas revealed it on his own.

"Bring her to work here," Lucas said, his eyes glinting.

"Will do, Sir. I'll get right on it." Ethan went on his way, settling the procedures.

In the office, Lucas was drumming his fingers on the table as his chin rested against his other hand.

Having her here is much more convenient.

Lucas smiled at the thought of being able to see Diana whenever he wants.

But first, those idiots who tried to harm her, must pay!
