Mina pretended to heed Dom's words regarding President Lee, but she knew things he did not. She remembered how the man treated her the first time she was at the hospital. She remembered how she had to wear the same clothing for weeks, and the smell of it; she could remember that clearly.
Mina could recall the maid that President Lee killed for doing something that was taught to little girls in primary school. She remembered being starved, and then being fed poison until she would much rather starve. She remembered President Lee calling her loose because she drank with Cylus. How he humiliated her by making her walk out onto the cold streets without a jacket.
Mina remembered her dress, which he had stolen from her, but worst of all she remembered her pain. She remembered how heavy her body felt, and how sore she was for days after. She was aware she had been written a prescription, but it was never given to her, likely to increase her suffering.
President Lee's remorseful act might have fooled people around him, but the things he did to Mina were all the proof she needed that he was not sorry at all. How much of a coincidence was it that she was abducted after she moved out on her own?
In Mina's opinion, President Lee was trying to push Miss Lisa into acting against her, but he underestimated the woman's sense of self preservation. She knew she needed Mina to approve her studio, and Mina believed that was the sole reason she was still alive.
"Can I help you at all?" Mina asked. She had almost driven herself into a panic attack at the realization that she had nothing left to bargain with. President Lee was likely trying to drive her insane, and she had already promised herself that she would not keep fighting for a life that was being lived for her.
"Don't trouble yourself. If given the opportunity, I will earn my rank back." Dom did not tell Mina, but he had all the evidence he needed to prove that Miss Lisa had targeted her from the beginning. He had even stumbled across proof that she had tried to drug Mina at the Rue family charity event.
Dom was already aware that Dr. Tavin Bell had taken the drink meant for Mina, and through Olivia, he was able to determine that if Mina had consumed the beverage instead of the much bigger than her, man; she would have slipped into a drug induced coma and died.
Dom continued to list out the details of his plan to get back to where he was, and preferably back by Mina's side, where he would never allow her to be more than two steps away from him.
"What if there is no opportunity?" Mina asked. Now she was the one staring at Dom as if it were the last time she was going to see him, and Dom noticed it immediately.
Dom heard Mina's question. More than heard it, he understood what she was asking. Mina was planning something, and she was afraid it might negatively affect him. Had it been any other person, Dom would not have read between the lines, but this was Mina, and she was an extremely resourceful person when she wanted to be.
Back when Mina had run from him, Dom was only able to find her because, as she said, she allowed herself to be found. He knew that whatever method she was using to evade him and the others was so efficient that another hour of her being gone would have resulted in a city-wide lockdown and beyond.
"You're planning on running, aren't you?" Mina stared at Dom and shook her head vigorously. She could see he was upset, and she did not want their meeting to be marred by anything. Especially if it were their last.
"No, nothing like that, but I am planning something. I think I know how to draw out the person who President Lee is looking for." Dom narrowed his eyes. Mina was not actually being used as bait, but she was now suggesting it and he could not be sure his boss would not go for it.
"So, you're just going to put yourself in danger again? Did I get hit by a car chasing you for nothing?" Dom knew it was a low blow, but he also knew that Mina suffered from a guilt complex. The only way he would change her mind was to make her think that she owed it to him.
"No, I-" Mina was interrupted by a female doctor who had come to check in on Dom. The woman was pretty and the black framed glasses she wore on her face made her look like a television actor. The white coat suited her; and Mina felt the woman was born to be in her profession.
"Should've knocked Doc," Dom said, and Mina could sense the hostility in his tone.
"Doctor," the doctor said slowly. There was clearly something going on between the pair and Mina felt uncomfortable being in the middle of it. She had only seen Dom in a foul mood for no reason once, but this seemed different.
The doctor handed Dom a small cup of water and two pills. She nonchalantly checked through his chart and checked a few boxes. She asked Dom a few personal questions, but for some reason Mina was uncomfortable with the exchange.
Mina reached forward and snatched the pills from Dom who looked surprised. As she expected, there was no dosage stamped into the pill, which meant it was not over the counter, and likely unbranded.
"I'm sorry Doctor…?"
"Rebecca," the Doctor interjected.
"My name is Mina. I am Dom's good friend. Can you please tell me what it is you have given him?" Rebecca scoffed. She looked Mina up and down; taking in the girl's appearance before answering.
"It's a Benzodiazepine." Mina blanched, and Rebecca misread the reaction as confusion.
"Why? Who prescribed that?" Mina asked in agitation. She knew something was off about Dom. She did not realize it was drug induced.
"I prescribed it. Not that you would understand." Mina became angry. She hated being talked down to in any situation.
"You are a terrible physician." Mina threw the pills on the floor and refocused her attention on Dom; who's eyes had lit up. "When was the last time she gave you those?" Mina asked. Her tone had become concerned, worried even. She did not notice Rebecca's expression.
"She started giving them to me a week ago," Dom answered. In truth he had no idea what he was taking. He had been so depressed that he did not even question it.
Mina looked up at Rebecca who had somehow made it closer to her. The woman looked angry, but Mina was more upset. She snatched Dom's chart from the foot of the bed and read through it.
"Don't take anything she gives you," she said, tossing the chart onto the floor.
"Why?" Dom asked.
"Because you don't need it." That was all Rebecca needed to blow a fuse.
"You may have slept with a doctor in the past, but that doesn't make you one," Rebecca said and Mina chuckled.
"And if that is how I received my education; I would still be a better doctor than you."
