As I opened my eyes and looked around, I found myself in a hospital room. "Huh?"
I mumbled to myself as I attempted to get up, perplexed as to why I couldn't move properly. I turned around to see a ventilator immobilizing me.
confused I started to take it off when I heard footsteps approaching, just as I took it off. I thought it was a nurse, as it was too late for visitors at this time.
My room's door flew open, and they entered. It was a woman with blue eyes and long, blonde hair put in a bun, which gave her a pretty youthful appearance. She appeared genuinely frightened as our eyes connected.
"Excuse me, Nur--" I started, but she cut me off. "ARIA!" she exclaimed, as she rushed over to me and hugged me. "Uh, excuse me, miss, but who are you?" She looked at me with tears of joy in her eyes but was visibly saddened by my question.
* it's me Grace* she paused *you don't remember me do you, Aria?* I stared at her for a moment. "No," I said flatly. She faintly smiled as she stared at me. "It's ok, you'll remember soon enough," she said, smiling with a hint of sadness in her tone.
Although she told me who she was, I knew I didn't know this woman.
"Oh, let me go call the nurse; we'll talk when I get back," she said as I let out a cough.
Something felt off. I didn't know why, but something was telling me to run.
As I watched her walk out of the room, I checked to make sure she was gone first. After I confirmed she was gone, I knew I only had a few minutes until she returned with the doctors.
I rushed to my feet and changed into some random clothes that I found in a chair. They looked like they had been sitting there for a while.
I hurried to the hallway and rushed to the exit; a receptionist called out to me.
"Excuse me, miss, where are you going?" she asked, looking confused as I passed her.
I ignored her.
"Miss, you can't leave!" she said, raising her voice as I made it to the exit.
"SECURITY TO THE FRONT EXIT, A PATIENT IS ESCAPING!"
As I looked back, I noticed a few guards rushing out of the building.
"Tsk," I said, gritting my teeth. I knew I had to hide somewhere quickly before they caught me, but nothing was open.
As I was running, I noticed a man getting inside a car. I ran up to him, and he looked confused.
I quickly explained what happened at the hospital and how people were chasing me.
As I stared at him for a moment, it felt like I knew him; he gave me a strange sense of familiarity, but I couldn't tell from where.
He surprised me by smiling at me. For a brief moment, I was perplexed, but he quickly reassured me that he would allow me to go. I quickly thanked him and dashed into the car.
As we drove away, I looked in the mirror and thankfully saw that the guards hadn't noticed me getting in the car.
I let out a sigh of relief and then turned towards the man who helped me to see him staring at me.
His once calm face turned into one of disbelief and almost amusement? He immediately changed his facial expression back, probably hoping I didn't notice.
he quickly turned his head and continued driving "weird," I thought to myself. After that, I would catch him taking glimpses of me and mumbling from time to time, but never once saying anything to me.
Just as I finally settled into my seat, I felt a light, warm tap on my shoulder: "We're here."
