Chapter 26: Flashbacks

"Dad! Mom! Look at This. I WON! I WON! I WON!" I yelled excitedly, rushing from the threshold to the kitchen.

I remember, having won the puzzle and riddle contest.

I remember my dad beaming at me.

I remember my brother being proud of me.

We had pizza that night.

It was an autumn night. I had a really wonderful day. I and my brother shopped for toys with our dad. We fed the squirrels. Then, it was nighttime. Around eight maybe. Don't remember much. Eric was back at home. It was just me and my dad. We got out of the shop. We had bought hazelnuts for Mom and Eric. We were talking cheerfully. Everything was slow and cold and lazy. Everything was perfect.

And then, a car hit my dad. His body lay motionless on the road. I was just standing there, having not even processed what had happened. I alone. I was scared. I didn't know what went wrong....

I remember my mom, going mad. She was yelling at me. Crying hysterically. I was blamed for a murder I didn't know how to commit. My brother tried to calm her down. He could've been 17 then, and I was 11.

My brother was picture perfect. He earned for us. He studied well and studied hard. He got a pretty nice job. I was always the spoiled one, the useless one. The muderer....

Hazel told the whole school. She was there when my mom went mad, the whole neighborhood was in fact. My friends ditched me. They whispered loudly every time I passed by. The teachers couldn't care any less.

That's when I found my purpose of life. I was to be evil. I was to be worse than they expected. I was to be a monster, a nightmare.

THE PRESENT

"Up now!" a cold voice shouted.

I woke up, blurry-eyed. I forced myself to my feet. I couldn't see Ivy or Jorge in sight. That made me panic. I hope they're alright.

I was in a dark room, lit merely by a bulb hanging from the ceiling. A strong hand got hold of my arm. I wanted to resist. I know I could have done that easily. But I felt lazy. I didn't want to do it.

We walked through hallways. Then we ended up in front of thick doors. I was shoveled in. The door closed behind me. I was left in darkness
