Chapter 21
At work the prospect of what was to come acted like an aphrodisiac for Ward and Tyler. Despite their continual cautions to keep things under wraps, at least two or three times every day they stole away to quickly be together in some hidden corner or out-of-the-way place in one of the mill buildings. Each time, after they were finished, they admonished each other to show more restraint. Friday was coming with its promise of the freedom to express their need for one another safely and at their leisure. Why take these foolish chances here at work? But within hours of such warnings, they were at it again, seeking some secluded area in which to make love.
They began a pattern of nightly phone calls. Ward would wait, and Tyler would call after he put the boys to bed.
During one of these conversations Ward brought up Emme Lou. “I met her at Helber’s Monday after work when I picked up my dad’s medicine.”
Tyler was quiet for a moment, then asked, “How did that go?”
