A Surprisingly Peaceful Life At School... For Now

Lim Xian took Li Meilin's dumbfounded look as an expression of gratitude for his sudden lenient proposal. After all, any peasant like this girl that would be offered with this kind of once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be with him would be moved by his words.

With an arrogant face, he added, "No need to be moved like that. I just took pity on you, that's all."

Li Meilin's eyes widened at the guy's direction. She can't believe there is such an arrogant, air-headed type of guy ever existed on this planet like this man over here.

"Hey!" she shouted. "Did my kick the other day caused some short circuit inside that useless brain of yours that you certainly would assume that I was moved by your nonsense words?"

When Lim Xian became speechless, Li Meilin continued. "Never in a million years would I date an annoying, ice-cold jerk like you! Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll just go get a coffee for you-- master."

Li Meilin intentionally stressed the last word with a hint of sarcasm before she stormed out of the room and closed the door behind her.

While she was on her way to the kitchen downstairs, Li Meilin could still feel her blood boiling as Lim Xian's words from their encounter earlier suddenly echoed inside her head in a flash.

["In exchange for your peaceful life in school, I would then hereby declare you as my girlfriend--starting today."]

Li Meilin immediately shakes her head off while she was trying her best to forget about that. Surely, that Black Prince is up to something. She could definitely feel it.

The following day at Shenzhen High School, Li Meilin was on an alert mode first thing in the morning as she crossed the long hallways going to the staircase.

Since she practically rejected that bastard's offer right there and then, Li Meilin was already expecting something unexpected to happen to her at school once more. Yet to her surprise though, Li Meilin made it towards their first-period class- unscathed.

'What is this?' she asked herself. 'Why isn't any attack yet happening towards me? Did that guy perhaps mean it when he said that he took pity on me?'

However, Li Meilin can't let her guard down just yet. We are dealing with an obnoxious jerk here, there is no way that guy could feel sympathetic towards her, or else he wouldn't put much effort in removing her as his personal maid that badly.

Setting aside these thoughts for a while, Li Meilin pushed the door of their classroom open and hurriedly went to her seat. She could definitely feel the prying eyes of everyone present inside, yet she tried her best to tune it out by doodling something at the back of her notebook while their teacher is still away and her friends are still not here.

Well, speaking of which, Zhao Chen and Mi Wei just entered the classroom and was yet surprised once more to see their friend Li Meilin already seated in her chair.

"I can't believe the fact that our friend Li Meilin is now starting to attend our first-period class twenty minutes early than the original schedule." Zhao Chen teased on his way to his seat. Mi Wei follows after him from behind.

Mi Wei added to Zhao Chen's teasing "Me too. It's like we are seeing a whole new Li Meilin from now on." 

Ignoring their remarks, Li Meilin chuckled and  greeted, "Good morning guys."

Occupying the seat next to Meilin, Zhao Chen greeted back. Mi Wei, on the other hand, occupied the seat behind Zhao Chen, for it was already a dead end on his right side.

"Say, I'm still kind of surprised why you are being so early now and why you didn't come to me to give you a free ride going to school." Zhao Chen nagged once again, making Li Meilin a bit uncomfortable. 

What the hell would she say? Can she tell her friends that the actual reason why she suddenly started to go to school this early is because of Ms. Yu's constant nagging at her about being early and that she is currently the Black Prince's personal maid?

Li Meilin cursed at the back of her head. Of course, there's no way for her friends to know about that! 

She was already aware of her reputation going around the campus as the girl who had the guts to talk back to that jerk, what will her friends say once they knew the truth?!

"Well, in case you hadn't noticed, I was already kicked out of my previous apartment," Li Meilin turned to meet Zhao Chen's concerned gaze. "And my new apartment now is kinda far from school, about five train stations away, that is "

Both Zhao Chen and Mi Wei gave her a look of disbelief as they are now hearing this from her.

In a reprimanding way, Zhao Chen asked, "Since when have you been kicked out of the apartment? You should have come to me for help, you know. We're neighbors, for goodness' sake!"

That's the thing. Li Meilin doesn't want to rely on anyone concerning her well-being. Instead of putting a burden into someone else's shoulders, she would at least try to resolve it first before asking any form of help from the people close to her heart.

"Or you could have at least called me so that I could let you stay in our house." Mi Wei added.

Li Meilin sighed. "I know that already. But I don't want to trouble you with my problems."

Zhao Chen's reprimanding looks toned down a bit by now. Ever since their childhood years, Li Meilin has been very mindful of others, to the point that she would solo carry her problems to avoid causing trouble to others.

Despite his constant reminders, Li Meilin wouldn't just listen and still continue with this bad habit of hers.

"I understand. But next time, for the 100th time already, call when you need help, alright?" Zhao Chen reminded his friend once again.

Li Meilin timidly smiled and bobbed her head up and down. "Alright, I will."

Like that would happen. Zhao Chen can't help but click his tongue in irritation.
