We arrived at the new spot for his bar, a couple or so blocks away from the previous. It was a little secluded but still recognizable if Ren would use of a bright signage. And added to the fact that many people knew and favored the bar, this would never be a problem.
I jogged to follow Ren who was walking fast towards the building.
"Hey Ren, wait up!"
He didn't look back nor did he slow down. I made faces at his back and doubled my pace. I was gasping for air when we arrived.
"Why didn't we drive the car until here? It could really fit in."
He looked at me condescendingly. Huh! This guy is so~ I really want to strangle him.
When he noticed me still waiting for an answer, he said matter-of-factly, "The materials for renovating would arrive today."
"So?" I asked, not comprehending. What does it have to do with parking – realization dawned at me and I let out a tiny, "Oh."
He returned fiddling with the padlock as if I was just a child asking nonsensical questions. My mood turned sour then. This guy is really getting on my nerves.
I pouted and crossed my arms in my chest as I waited for him to open the damn door. "Is it really too hard to open that?"
He glared at me, silencing my anger. That look seems scary, so I could only focus on his hands as he twisted the key. My eyes grew big when he withdrew a small key from a very big padlock. How did that happen?
He caught me looking at it, but instead of giving me some answers, he just smirked at me. What the hell is that reaction? Is he a burglar? Oh what have I gotten myself into?
As we entered the room, I now saw how bare it is. There was literally nothing in there – just a big, big space.
"This takes too much work," I said. "Are you sure you don't want my help?"
"Yeah, I can handle this," he replied immediately.
"Well, okay. Did you bring my plan?"
"Yes. Here," he gave me the plan.
I frowned, "Did you bring this from the car? I didn't see you – "
"You probably didn't notice it."
Oh well okay. I think I'm a little bit sleepy.
I took the plan from him and compared it to the space in front of me. He left me there pondering as we heard the rumble of a truck outside. The materials have probably arrived.
I pondered the plan for a bit and then checked the materials he bought. I gathered that the materials he bought were top grade, so there should be no problem when construction starts.
"So, when will you start renovating here?"
"Later."
"Already?"
"Yeah. I need to finish this ASAP."
"Where are your workers?"
"Them," he gestured at the men who brought in the materials. "And more will be coming in later."
I am getting dizzy with him doing everything so fast. But maybe he really needs to double time. "Okay. I can oversee the work later."
"No."
"What? Why is that?"
"We only paid you for the plan. We can't pay you if you become the foreman or something all of a sudden."
I was getting angry now. "So what do you wish for me to do now that you brought me here?"
He frowned, sensing my anger. "I'm sorry for not telling you ahead of time."
I raised my brow at him, daring him to continue.
He sighed, "I thought it's too much to ask of you."
Oh so that's why. I conceded. "Okay fine. But what am I supposed to do here?"
He scratched his head, as if lost. Cute.
"Uh, uhm, could you help me put the right materials for the areas? You know better on what to use because you designed it."
I beamed at him, feeling elated that I am needed. "Sure!"
So I happily skipped and jogged as I started searching the materials and ordered Ren and the workers to put materials to be used in every area. I was happy to boss Ren around. Huh! That's revenge of getting me left out. I snickered inwardly.
We finished everything by lunch time, and my hunger has been tormenting me for nearly half an hour.
"Oh thank God it's done! Where do we eat?" I asked Ren immediately after sitting on a pile of wood blocks.
He looked at me, a frown evident on his face.
"What's wrong?"
"I didn't think of lunch," he said absentmindedly.
Does this guy even eat? How could he forget an important meal such as lunch? He didn't even provide some snacks, which is equally important with lunch!
"Are you still human?" I asked him, feeling mortified. I stood up and dragged him outside. "Come on! Let's find somewhere to buy food. Your workers are so tired!"
He glanced at his workers and there was confusion written all over his face.
"Why are you confused? Don't you eat? I saw you eat at home!"
"But they really don't – "
I cut him off and continued dragging him out. I really don't want to hear his nonsense thoughts. "No. We are going to buy now!"
