chapter 45 intoxicating smile

"Hi there miss Evelyn Huo? good to see you again."

"no need for formalities Sheffield besides I am younger than you." Evelyn corrected him.

when they were young, Sheffield had a crush on Evelyn, when he was turning twenty two he master his courage to propose to her by then she was around eighteen but the proposal went south.

on that day six years ago he prepared a piano performance for Evelyn. he played the piano while waiting for her but she never showed up at the concert. he went back home with a sullen face and he never touched the piano again despite being a famous maestro Tang. he graduated the following year from the world famous medical school.

despite being handsome, he never dated girls seriously. they all throw themselves at him but he never felt the way he felt when he's interacting with Evelyn. so for the past six years he's know as 'famous playboy'. though he never slept with any of them, the girls always follow him like bugs. he can't chase them away, he just keep them off limits.

Ever since six years ago she has never seen or contacted him. that day six years ago, on her way to Sheffield's concert she received a call from Debbie and Carlos her parents "Evelyn, your brother went for a business trip in D city, we've received a call from his assistant saying that he has been drugged, you need to be careful out there don't eat or drink outside." her mom said worriedly

"okay mom I understand."she answered

"baby, daddy is coming out to pick you. send me your location." Carlos always spoil his daughters and he won't allow any harm to come their way

"Dad don't worry, I'll be back in an hour. I am going to watch a friend piano performance." she convince her Dad

"okay, call if you need me." he had to curve in.

"take care. bye Mom. bye Dad."

that day she went to the concert and sat at the last row with a mask on. she didn't know why Sheffield ask her out but when she was there she guessed it. 'so Sheffield likes me? I always thought he was standing up for me All that time because he's Matthew's best friend. so when did it start?' she felt complicated. she took out a pen and write down a note. she passed it to one of the stuff

"can you please take it to the person in the stage, I need him to play for me that."

"okay, I'll do that right away miss." she watched until the note was delivered and then she went to the darkest corner to see if Sheffield is opening the note. to her dismay he didn't open it even after leaving the stage. he just stuffed it in his music book. she left after the concert.

the next day she was sent abroad to study and she never came back to the country, she never called back because she thought Sheffield hates her. 'he never even open my note so what's the point of calling him'

on the other hand when Sheffield received the note, he thought it is one of his fan's so he stuffed it in his music book, he had a bad evening and he didn't want to perform anything anymore.

he never called Evelyn he was waiting for her to call first.

it wasn't until two hours ago did he received a call from Evelyn "am back in the country let's have dinner together you can invite my brother but don't tell him yet, it's a surprise."

"it's been awhile Sheffield, what are you up to?" Evelyn felt awkward so she decided to strike a topic.

" I have been busy working in the hospital for some few years." he answered. since it was awkward and there wasn't any common topics between them, they decided to have small talks. "how about you Evelyn?" he asked

"I have been studying abroad for the past six years. I just finished my final exam yesterday and I came back." she explained happily

it's been six years. now Sheffield is looking at that intoxicating smile again. 'i guess my feelings are still the same as six years ago.'
