Chapter 14

“Here,” I tell him, holding the paper towels to his forehead and sitting on the edge of the couch. I shake my head. “I can’t believe I did that.”

Water is sliding down Jimmy’s temples and into his hair, and I could kill myself for making the towels too wet. “I don’t usually…I mean…” I find his eyes with my own and try to put all the honesty I can into my expression. “I didn’t mean to hurt you.”

Jimmy’s eyes soften and his lips part as if he’s going to say something. He doesn’t.

“I don’t hurt people,” I tell him. Not anymore.“I swear to God. It was a mistake.”
