Chapter 5: The Girl from Eichen

I woke up early the next morning to my phone ringing, It was Scott. I reluctantly answered, and we talked briefly. He was just checking in and making sure I was okay. I told him I was fine, giving him a brief summary of what had happened the night before, and then hung up.

I pulled myself out of bed and got dressed, I decided not to go to school, I was tired, and I needed a day to decompress. A little later I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket as I walked into the kitchen. When I looked at my phone, I was surprised to see a text message from Liam.

"Hey, are you okay? Is Brett okay? No one told me anything after Scott dropped me off last night."

I quickly replied, "Yeah, I'm okay; I think Brett is too. Deaton said he needed rest. What happened after I left the school?"

A few moments later he replied, "Stiles's dad arrested Violet, but no one had been able to find her boyfriend yet. Apparently, they are a known assassin team that goes by the name The Orphans."

"Oh wow, that's terrifying." I typed with a chuckle.

"Right!" Liam messaged back.

"Hey, I'm going on a run with Mason, and then I'm supposed to meet up with Scott. Do you want to come?" he asked.

I thought for a moment before replying, "Going on a run with a werewolf. Yeah, I don't have a death wish. Besides, I have a couple of things to do around my house. But let me know when you're done, and I can give you a ride to Scott's." "If you want," I added.

"Yeah, okay," Liam replied, and then I tucked my phone back into my pocket.

I couldn't help but smile at the fact that he had invited me on a run. Over the past few weeks, we had gotten close. Maybe it was because we joined the pack around the same time. But whatever it was, I had developed this need to protect him.

After that, I decided to use my day off to reinforce the protection spell around my house; with the dead pool and assassins hunting us, I felt like it was probably a good idea.

I found myself extremely thankful that Deaton had shown me how to cast spells. Especially this one. The protection spell was one of the only things that I was really good at, I had tried other spells, but spell magic wasn't something I was very good at. It wasn't like using my powers.

When Deaton first started teaching me, he told me it was quite unusual for a witch to struggle with spells the way I did. Most of the time, witches would struggle more with summoning their raw power, and some didn't even have that ability at all, they could only use spells. I was unusual, even in the witch community.

It didn't take me long to reinforce the protection spell around my house and make sure that only my mom and I could come inside. Others had to be invited in by one of us to step foot into the house. As I cleaned up the mess I had made during the spell I realized that Liam had never texted me. It had been over an hour, he must have been done with his run, and yet when I looked at my phone, there were no new messages.

Then I received a text from Stiles, all it said was "Outside,".

I opened my front door and looked outside, as I did I noticed his Jeep parked in my driveway. I let out a sigh closing the door. I ran to my room and grabbed my bag before running back to the door and hopping outside. I locked the door behind me and walked over to the Jeep. "Hey, Lydia!" I said, waving as I saw her in the front seat.

"So, why are you guys at my house?" I asked, looking between the two of them. "We are going to the sheriff's office to get help finding the last key to the dead pool," Lydia answered.

"And you need me for this? Why?" I asked. "Who, said we needed you for anything? Maybe we just wanted to hang out with our friend," Stiles protested, and I laughed.

"Yeah, you just showed up at my house in the middle of the day cuz you wanted to hang out," I said, rolling my eyes. "Okay, maybe there's someone at the station who's on the list, and we wanted you to be there when we talked to him, just in case," Lydia said bluntly.

"It's Jordan, right?" I asked. "Yeah. How did you know? Did you see the list?" Stiles asked. "I can see supernaturals, Stiles. You know this," I said. "Do you know what he is then?" Lydia asked, but I shook my head. "Sometimes it harder to tell, like it was with you. I honestly didn't know exactly what you were until I overheard Stiles call you a banshee," I replied and she nodded understandingly.

"So, are you coming?" Stiles asked. "Oh. Yeah, sorry," I said, Lydia, hopped out and let me climb into the back seat.

Once we reached the sheriff's station, we went inside to find Jordan at the front desk, "Your dad should be back within the hour," Jordan told Stiles as he walked over to the desk. "You want to wait in his office?" Jordan asked.

"Actually, we want to talk to you," Stiles said. "Privately," Lydia added. Jordan looked at us for a moment, before he nodded and led us into an empty office. Once the door was closed, Stiles began to explain the dead pool to him.

"This is a hit list?" Jordan asked, looking down at the paper Stiles handed to him. I nodded, "We call it a dead pool," I explained. "Recognize any of the names?" Stiles asked.

"Yeah, the sheriff had me run a bunch of these through the system last night. But we couldn't find any of them." Jordan replied. "Show him the other thing," Stiles muttered, motioning to Lydia.

She reached up and flipped the page, showing Jordan his name. "Okay. That's kind of terrifying," he said, standing up. "What's the number?" he asked.

"That's how much your worth," I replied, and he spun around. "I'm worth five dollars!" he exclaimed, and I couldn't help but chuckle.

"Five million," Stiles corrected. Jordan stared at the paper in shock. "I only make 40,000 a year. Maybe I should kill myself," he remarked. "I said the same thing," I smiled. "I don't get it. Why am I on this?" he questioned. "Honestly, that might be a question for another day. Right now, there's still another third of the list we have to crack," Stiles replied.

"We need the third cipher key. But we need help to get it," Lydia explained. "From who?" Jordan asked. "Meredith," Lydia responded. So that was their plan, I thought to myself; from what I had heard, this plan barely worked the first time; what made them think it would work again?

"The girl from Eichen? The last time you saw her, you almost gave her a nervous breakdown," Jordan said, shaking his head. "Almost," Lydia replied. Jordan sighed, "I'll be back in a minute," he said as he walked out of the office.

We all looked at each other awkwardly as we waited for him to return. "So, what is your plan if this doesn't work?" I asked finally, and Stiles and Lydia just looked at me. "Just wondering," I said with a shrug. "Honestly, if this doesn't work, I think I'm out of ideas," Stiles replied after a moment. "You got anything up your Witchy sleeve?" Lydia asked. "I might have something I could try if you can't get anything from Meredith," I muttered, remembering a spell Deaton had given me that could help. I looked up at Stiles and Lydia and realized they were both staring at me, I opened my mouth to explain what I meant, but then Jordan returned and told us he could take us to Eichen house.

"Okay, well, you all have fun. Because I'm not stepping foot in that place willingly. Besides, if this falls through, my possible backup plan is at my house," I said as we walked outside. "Okay. I can drop Amaya off at her house and then meet you guys there," Stiles said to Lydia and Jordan. They nodded as we hopped into the Jeep and started driving back to my house.
