End Of The World Part 1

You might be surprised to hear this, but the end of the world doesn't really frighten me. In fact, I'm quite happy because this is the first time I've been able to leave my house, mostly due to my own fault, but this seems like a lot of fun. Oh, wait, you're confused, aren't you? Let me explain. About a week ago, an alien ship intercepted every cable line on Earth and essentially said that half the population was being abducted and molested until they had children, but I merely logged onto my favorite MMO game and said my pals farewell because it seemed likely that we would never see them again.

"Anybody Here?"

I sigh as I walk into a deserted gas station and continue seeking for food, noting that most people aren't around in a random gas station on an alien invasion

'Quest Created'

"What?"

When I turn around, a yellow box with the words "Quest Created" is floating in the air. When I click the floating box, a list appears.

'Quest Info'

'Find a warm meal and stay hydrated'

'Conditions eat a warm mean and drink some water'

'Reward 10 EXP'

'Failure Death'

What was that I just read? Did it just say death? Am I crazy? Even though I haven't eaten in three days, I shouldn't yet be losing my mind.

"Woah Wait"

This menu resembles that of my favorite MMO game quite a bit. Am I dreaming or is my brain functioning?

'Time limit 10 minutes'

only 10 minutes, please I quickly scan my surroundings and notice a nearly empty water bottle and a partially consumed McLand's hamburger. Thank goodness the invasion didn't shut off the power, so I quickly move the burger and bottle to the microwave, wondering why this had to happen to me in America of all places. I set the hamburger in the microwave for 30 seconds, and then took a huge bite out of it.

𝘊𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘬

"What was that?"

I turn around and saw a large shadow that resembles a monster. I take a step back and grab a plastic fork.

"I have a weapon"

That wasn't the finest decision, was it? I can see the monster approaching, and as I prepare to confront it, I hurl the fork at it as it comes into view.

"Wait is that a-"

The monster lets out a huge howl if you even call it a monster because it's a dog.

"Come here, boy it's okay"

The dog approaches, not toward me but rather the burger. When I see this, I rip a small piece of it, place it on the ground, and step back.

"You want some don't be afraid"

As the dog approaches and begins to eat, I finish the remaining portions of my burger and finish the remaining water. The dog stares at me and then turns to look at the food.

'Quest Completed'

'Rewarded 10 Exp'

Without the burden of that quest, I feel much better. It's been about a week since this all began. I tried to stay in my apartment, but my power went out due to someone tripping the breaker, so I had nothing to do but stress eat. When all of my food vanished, I sat in despair for three days before I finally sucked it up and left to find a very quiet city and lit cars. This creeped me out as the city was so quiet and empty so I spent the entire day looking for food till I found this gas station.

I wave my hand in the direction of the dog, and it rushes over as I pet its head and check its collar to learn that its name is Bean—what an odd name—but now that I'm looking at it, it's a white Maltese dog with very small eyes. I lean my face down to see what color its eyes are, and the dog licks my face. I chuckle a little as it leans in closer to lick my face even more, and I realize the dog is a boy. He makes me feel a little bit calmer as I lay down to go to sleep, and just before I doze off, I observe the dog curl up into a ball exactly next to my stomach. I grin and nod off. He reminds me of my childhood dog from when I was still living in South Korea.

It's been about three days since Bean and I moved into this gas station. I've largely been getting food for myself, but I also discovered some dog food for Bean, so he doesn't need to worry.

"Bean Come here bud"

As Bean approaches me, I think back to that one thing. The yellow box that reminded me of my favorite MMO game hasn't appeared since, so today I wanted to test it out because I see that in most novels, they had to say something like "status on" or something similar to see it.

"Status on?"

"Show Status"

"Show Skills"

"Menu"

"Menu ON?!"

"This Isn't Working"

I slam the shelf in frustration, wondering if it was all a dream.

'Quest Created'

'Quest Info'

'Access the quest menu'

'Conditions Find Out How To Access the quest menu'

'Reward 100 exp and access to the quest menu'

'Failure Removal of your abilities

Wait what do I have an infinite time limit.

'Time limit 2 hours'

I just had to think something didn't I, since it appears that this system can read my mind, which is unsettling. I had to consider that it might be connected to the game in order to reach the menu, you would simply press M, but how do I do that?

"M!"

I feel as though my parents are looking down on me from heaven, angry at me for even doing that. There was a feature at the beginning of the game where you had to open settings and manually alter the menu from being motion activated,

"Settings!"

and a yellow screen with the same choices for the game's music, graphics, and keybinds appears. I choose the keybinds option to switch the menu from being motion activated to thought,

"Well I guess that's done"

Another yellow screen pops up with the classic MMO Rpg Stats I remember

'Would you like to have a menu tutorial?'

of course, I would and I click the yes button on the screen.

Health – The Natural Defense OF player

Strength - The Natural Strength Of A Player

Stamina – The Natural Stamina of the player

Movement Speed – The Natural Speed of the player

Vision – The Natural Vision Of The Player

Detection – The Natural Detection Of The Player

It's quite basic, but there are a lot of numbers, and the system barely tells me what they do well. I'll test it out later. As I browse the menu, I discover that I have two skills.

[Mental Barrier] - A Passive Barrier That Stops The User From Feeling Sad Depressed Or Being Hurt Mentally

[No Life] - A Passive Ability That Allows The User To Spend A Lot Of Time On Useless Things

That last skill is offensive, so I shouldn't complain about it. However, my stats are incredibly low all at one am I really that weak?

"This Is Complicated"

I turn back and give Bean a little cuddle as I wait. There's something I haven't looked into yet, so I reach into my pocket, pull out my phone, and switch it on. Since it has service, I check the news to see if anything has been discovered.

"Woah what's that?"

The image shows what appears to be a monster and the text reads, "This Has Been Appearing Around Attacking Humans." That scares me I'm fortunate that I haven't seen any of these things, but I should take precautions just in case. I place Bean on the ground, and he rushes to a corner and lies down as I search the area for something with which to defend myself.

"What is this?"

I see a pocket on the counter; it appears to be valuable and bears a family name Gernes. I'm glad to pick it up.

'Gernes Family Knife Obtained'

Haven't seen this yet when I picked anything else up nothing happened

'Gernes Family Knife Special Plus 10 Strength'

That's a lot of stats, and I just realized that I'm level 7 thanks to that menu quest. I have seven points in the game, and I took the glass cannon build, but I've since decided to add two to health, two to strength, and two to movement speed instead because my body already feels lighter. With that, I've decided to call it a night.

"So noisy Bean shut up"

I slowly open my eyes to discover a Bean being pulled by a long, hairy arm. My eyes widen, and I quickly get to my feet to chase after Bean when I find myself in front of a hideous monster. The monstrous creature is tall, huge, with beefy arms and torso, small legs, a huge neck, and a huge head that resembles a shark but is hairy. What am I supposed to do to combat this?
