"Does it hurt?" Karli asked stupidly.
"Yes but I've had worse," Cody said with a half shrug using his uninjured arm. "Don't worry about me. I'll be back to normal soon enough. I'm actually more concerned about the others we left behind…Has anyone contacted you about what's going on?"
"No. I'm as lost as you are."
She suddenly squeezed his hand tighter, more grateful than she could say that he was awake and doing alright. She could have lost him today and been forced to raise multiple children alone like her sister.
Her eyes filled with tears. Today had been so scary! She had never been through anything like that and never wanted to again.
"Hey, what are you crying for?" Cody asked with a frown.
The floodgates were unleashed by that simple question. Karli had a hard time getting words out around her sobs.
