Chapter 3 : The first Night Study

In every school at the first day before any lectures are to begin there has to be an assembly to signify the arrival of all new members to the school. This was no exception for Selfont High School, All students wore their new uniforms and old ones especially for the elder students at school. It was a green, cream and gray valley situated just under the Podium as the students settled in rows according to their grades. It flowed like a raging wave as the students filled with different views chatted their breath out.

The uniform at Selfort is universal as all boys wore gray shirts and trousers while the only difference being the prefects and the stripes on the upper class students. As for the girls they shared the same colour blazer as the boys but they had cream shirts and unplaited skirts which differed from the upper class students who wore white blouses and plaited skirts as well as having blazers with stripes rounding a small region on both sides of the button and hole including the end of the long sleeves.

The Assembly commenced as soon as a loud voice took away the sassy noise that was roaring beneath the podium.

"keep quiet"

Yelled a stern but comical voice. This voice belonged to the Vice Headmaster, a slightly chubby man with a tone black complexion, around he's 40's with a stern aura and an electric flow about him which was caused my a long standing illness that had him fail to establish himself in the medical field due to fear of accidentally causing a fatal accident during surgery.

"umm umm (caugh caugh) right"

" Now, Let's start off with the Lord's prayer"

Said The Vice Headmaster

All students began in unison

" Our Father Who Art In Heaven

Hallowed be Thy Name

Thy Kingdom Come

Thy Will Be Done On Earth

As It Is Done In Heaven

Give Us This Day Our Daily Bread

And Forgive Us Our Tresspasses

As we forgive those who trespass against us

Lead Us Not Into Temptation

But Deliver Us From Evil

For Thine Is The Kingdom

AND THE POWER

And The Glory

Forever

And Ever

Amen."

As the air was settling down after that marvelous chant. The teacher's representative and the on duty teacher for the week went on to continue the Assembly schedule.

Mrs Sentías began with allowing all students to chant out the national anthem of Zecredal and the national vision in accordance to the new schools curriculum so as to give a patriotic feeling to the kids.

The Assembly went on as scheduled with the children getting to know the Teachers who were available on the Podium as well as getting to know Mr Dhareal the Headmaster. Then the Assembly ended with every student moving from the quarry filled spot which is not a hall. This spot was Selfonts usual event location because of it's spaciousness. The students dispersed into different directions each headed either to the class or toilet in an haphazard manner as soon as Mr Dhareal and the teachers left the podium.

When the children settled down on their seats to begin their day as new students. Sam had to seat on a bench with brand new faces having been split up with his roommates, he's benchmates were Takeal and Brian a twin of Bright who went in the same class as the T trio's. Surprisingly the T trio's split up with two going to the other class, Tameal then went into the same class as Sam. The classes where divided into three which resembled the first three letters of the alphabet, this was a representation that the kids would later on understand it's meaning.

The students selected their own sitting arrangement where it seemed uniform in a sense as the girls occupied the front while the boys became back benches as some of the boys were still afraid of the other sex. Each class had around 32 students respectively which resulted in a congestion of values and views. The students had carried all of their books because of lack of knowledge of how things where at school, almost all of the students had two bags, these bags were the personal students backpack and the other was a green strap-in bag given by the school which had the schools emblem embedded on it.

The students sat down and began to learn about each other as there were a lot of new faces and some familiar faces. Some bonds based on similar traits were built up and this would indirectly affect other aspects in the near future. Sam, Takeal and Brian became quick friends because of their differences and this helped start a lifelong friendship that began with backbenchers. The three classes were split into A, B and C which was the only dividing factor but it still didn't divide the students completely as they lived in similar dormitories. The division only strengthened bonds of different students in the same classrooms.

Sam had entered 1B which was the class located in the middle of the block, this was a class made of the quieter students in the stream though noise is an inevitable outcome when people meet. Students in 1B had a fair share of smart people alongside party lovers and the borderline menace's which made it an interesting class, while those in 1C were the loud ones which were mixed with the real joker's of the Stream while 1A had a bunch of Teacher's pets, smartest students in the stream, the meek one's and average mentions of joker's in there as well as 1A being the most imbalanced class in the stream as it had both the noise and the quietness of an average class.

On that day there was a teachers meeting that took place just after the assembly and all the students had gone to their classes except for lower six students who had no t arrived at school as their term hadn't started. Every student had been somewhat acquiented with the school except for the form 1's who had just arrived at the school and only knew the basics. As the saying goes when in Rome do what the Romans do so the form 1's had to accept the new terms and move on slowly.

An Alevel student went to the form 1's and began a lecture as though he was a teacher and all the Form 1 students being naive as they were believed him without questioning him. He told them to take out 1 quire books and write the date,

ALevel student : " Morning students my name is sir Fidza, today there's not much to learn but I'd like you pupils to take out your books and write today's date"

He continues " I'll collect the books as I pass through"

The students impatiently began to scribble the date while not even knowing the subject they were about to partake in. Fidza collected all the books and before any of the students could quickly catch on, he had already vanished. Apparently there was a bet that he wouldn't be able to collect books from the book 1's and this time he hit the jackpot.

With Fidza's stint done well, he's shadow was never to be seen again. The day went on casually with the class teacher arriving and telling the students that they will have to decide both the class representatives since they needed to learn more about each other. This led to a rise in noise incensently as the students began to discuss fervently of their preferred options.

The day went casually as the students enjoyed their breakfast and lunch at the school's cafeteria.

It was right after dinner when the students all rushed out of the cafeteria as they went to their hostels while finishing up preparations for the night service at the church which is a daily event at school.

The students went to church then sang some Catholic hymes while also going down on the knees and praying to God.

After the prayer, the students left in droves since they had to catch the night study that begins at 18:00 ending at 20:00. The period squeezed in between after the church service and night study was unilaterally used by different students to socialise with the other sex. It was a sea of couples walking together as the male students walked the female students to the Hall specifically used by the girls as their place of study separating them from the boys. This system was created just to reduce any chance of the boys and girls having contact at night while they study.

At around 18:30 there was a wave of information that flowed like grapevine gripping every boy's attention as the girls had been released. This wave brought some discomfort which led to the creation of a lie that spread faster than a colossus falling down.

" They said the boys should head on to their hostels as soon as the girls reach their hostels"

This news caused a ripple in the hearts of all those boys busy doing nothing but chatting which was really not ideal for studying. Thus when the opening came up all boys came out like a raging ocean wave with noise acting as the splash of water. The boys going to the hostels was never an issue but the fact that they were roaring like hungry lions while walking to their hostels though at the moment the wave reached close to the Headmaster's office the air that was generally cold turned Atlantic cold.

" Who said you can leave before the study has ended"

Came a loud, stern and domineering voice that brought the silence to 0°. It was the Headmaster Mr Dhareal.
