I trotted back to the den with worry on my face, trying to figure all this out.
I had gone out to look for scraps in the town, but I couldn't find it! I even tried following the scent trail of us walking from there, but all I could smell was the scent of some mouse, so it must've covered it up… would we have to hunt like wild tigers? I mean, it couldn't be that difficult, right..?
I walked into the den with a sullen look on my face. "Hey… Oreo, we might have to start hunting prey. I can't find the trash cans, or the town for that matter," I meowed to him, as he seemed to be looking up at me in a somnolent manner. "Really?" My brother asked me, confused as he got up from his bed-thingy. "Yes! I followed the scent trail and everything, but the scent of some stinky mouse covered it up and I couldn't follow it back to the town."
"Ok, do you have any idea how to catch prey? Because I don't." Okay, I have to prove him wrong on this… little know-it-all. I believe that I have a basic understanding of what to do... Ah! I spotted a rabbit a few feet away from us, hiding in a bush. "I guess we will have to learn. Look, there's a rabbit right there!" I meowed, carefully stepping out of the den. And I had seen some others hunt, how hard could it be?
"I've seen other cats do this before. You just crouch, and then pounce." I crouched down, my tail low and brushing against the grass. I locked my eyes on the creature, not breaking my gaze as I slowly crept toward it. My tail twitched, anxious to end this rabbit. I got closer with time until I was near enough to attack. I felt a sharp spike of energy rush through me, and I pounced at it, my claws unleashed.
I so felt alive as I sunk my jaws into the rabbit, ending its life as I sank my claws into it. "Woah!" I heard Oreo yelp as I stood up, stretching my neck as I watched Oreo's shocked reaction. "See?" I purred softly, my ears pricked up, as I was proud. "Easy!"
There was a huff and a roll of the eyes coming from Oreo. "Let me try!" He gloated, with the fakest 'I can do it' voice I've ever heard.
I was proud of myself for successfully hunting for our food. "Alright. Go ahead, brave tom..." I said slyly, puffing out my fur. Oreo quickly looked around, spotting a mouse nibbling the grass. I watched as he slowly crawled up to it, not in the right stance at all... I flinched as the mouse saw him, and it began to scamper away. Ugh, he didn't pay attention to the wind..!
"It smelled me!" He yowled, sprinting after it as fast as he possibly could. He leapt after it as it ran to a tree, quickly darting out of the way of the tree and scuttling away. I cringed as Oreo crashed into the tree with a loud "Oof!" During the crash the mouse shrieked in fear as it got farther away, while Oreo looked around, dizzy and completely stunned. I facepawed myself. That was the clumsiest thing I've ever seen...
I scoffed, padding up to him. Ah... it smelled you, did it now? I smirked at him. "It probably smelled you because you needed a bath," I remarked. He scoffed, spitting, "If anything, it's because you're the stinky one!" "Oh, yeah? Well, I don't smell like a skunk, so you must be the one!" I snickered. I waited as Oreo got up, and I lead him back to the den while he pouted behind me.
We padded into the den, and I placed the rabbit on the ground, saying, "Let's not waste this." I was about to take a bite of it, but why not tease this doofus more? I glanced back up at him. "You better be polite and clean yourself up before dinner!" I huffed in a silly posh voice. Oreo rolled his eyes as I giggled, and started cleaning himself rigorously. I sat and waited, my head held high as I watched him.
He eventually finished, and right as he was about to turn to eat the rabbit with me, I swiftly snatched it up and yelled, "Dibs!" "Hey, get back here!" He called as I scuttled to another side of the den, laughing. I took a big bite of the rabbit and smiled at Oreo. "What? You snooze, you lose!" He raced up to me, quickly taking a bite of it too before I could snatch it up and run somewhere else. "Ugh! Fine, you can have some too... Shrimp-Fluff!" I snorted.
"Diva-Snoot!" He snorted as well, taking another bite of the rabbit.
Diva-Snoot and Shrimp-Fluff... I should have used those nicknames in the previous book, Warrior Cats 2 - Oreo's story. Lol.
They aren't being rude to each other, it is just a sibling thing, where we just...
affectionately hate each other.
For example, we could be saying 'I hate you,' we really mean that we love them, but we are just teasing. ^-^
