Rewritten-Chapter 1

He opens his eyes after countless hours spent in the void of memories and unencountered thoughts of heaven or hell which for him was a lost believe finally he opens his eyes to show a weary hazel pupils that damped with the sight of hell that he experienced for 4 years but now here he is in an old monastery laying on a bed with white sheets of clothes and as his restless eyes look around the room they finally reach the door which was opened by a nurse that was carrying a towel, the man struggles to bring himself up and he spoke.

"Nurse, where are my comrades, and what of the war?"

As he asks his questions, the nurse with a graceful smile answers him as she beckoned him to stay in bed with her hand.

"Sir, the war is over, we have wo-."

The nurse's words faded in his head but there were some that struck him. 'The war is over'.

The next morning he stood in his uniform in his temporary bed and opened the door and started to walk towards a hall that was leading towards the exit and there he sees the rest of the few of each regiment some crying in tears, some barely holding their fears as they struggle to hide what the higher officers considered act of desertion and cowardice, and then there was his squad of 15 remaining men waiting for their leader. The man approaches them.

"I hope I am not too late, sir".

The man jokes half-heartedly and the squads replied with contemptuous laughter.

The squadron leader turned and responded.

"No, not all Staff Sergeant William Freeman."

The squad pays respect and William does the same. There were fewer than what used to be and also much more jokes and laughter even in a dismal hole where gun fires are like rain and bombs were like a Christmas present dropped from the sky.

'Better that some survived than none'. William affirms his mind.

Upon the morning sunshine that lit the ship as it docked at the port of Southport and there the soldiers' families, some who were cheering and some who were mourning, came into view.

The door of the ship opened and the soldiers came out one by one as they reached the shore they thought they would never see. They ran to hug their loved ones they dreamt of never seeing again.

As the pleasant atmosphere surrounds the cold air of Northern Albion William stood at the exit of the ship as his eyes searched for someone he had wanted to see again and by the bridge next to a shop of flowers there she was as if the sun's light was purposely only on her with her brown eyes filled with insight, and knowledge that no one can fully grasp. she stood with her dark hair that flowed down her face and her rose like cheek wearing an aquamarine dress with yellow and green flowers crossing with it. She was his hope, she was his everything that he could see when he looked at the clouds and stars of those 4 years.

Their eyes met William put on a smile but she did not do the same.

'Why?'

William looked at her and all he could see from her face as she looked at him was distress and was also a sign and right at the corner of her eyes were jewels of tears and her lips breathing helplessly.

"Merisa-"

William tried calling for her yet a familiar sound was heard and it followed with a flash of light of red colour

With dark clouds of dust and splinters of wood and stone.

"BOOM!"

And all went dark again due to the sound that he thought he would never ever hear again which greeted him with a vibration sound and the hope he fought for to see once again was gone.
