When we pulled up at the school I pulled out my phone and called my mom. She picked up on the first ring.

 "Honey, is everything alright?"

I released a breath. "Yes. I'm at a football game and I was wondering if I could come home at 8:30."

"That's really late honey." my mother's voice was dripping with concern and it took everything in me to not roll my eyes.

"At 8 then?"

My mom sighs. "Fine. 8:30 and not a minute later."

"Alright, thanks!!"

I hang up before she can berate me some more and run to catch up to my friends. They were already sitting in the bleachers, whooping and shouting.

Trevor and his buddies sat in a row in front of us, screaming their heads off. I was just getting ready to sit down beside Lilliana when Kamila and a couple of her girlfriends popped out from nowhere. (Literally)

They all wore matching pink tops and blank jeggings, blonde hair, they had bright eyes, and enough makeup for a Halloween party.

As I stood there, mesmerized by the electrifying atmosphere of the stadium, Kamila turned her head. The lights bounced off the piercing in her nose, creating a stunning display of rainbows that danced across the bleachers.

I'm not hating them, they look great. Kamila smirks at me, cocking her head to the side. She glanced at Trevor and her smirk grew bigger; it was like she could sense how hard I was trying to get his attention.

My stomach sank.

"What are you doing here with these..weirdos?" Kamila asked, wiggling her fingers at Lillian, and Serenity.

"They're my friends."

Kamila looped her arm through mine. "Listen, Eve, you can't hang with us and them. You've got to choose. Hey, Trev, mind if I steal your date for a sec!"

Trevor looked back at us, his cheeks slightly red.

Without waiting for a response Kamila dragged me away leaving Lillian and the other to blink after us. I glanced back to see her glowering at us with narrowed eyes and pursed lips.

"Come, you need an immediate makeover," Kamila said, pulling out a golden tube of gloss and slathering another layer on. She made a pop sound with her mouth.

I squeak. "Makeover?"

Personally, I despise makeup, it's not because I hate it. But mostly because other girls make it seem so easy to do. But every attempt I've made I've either ended up smudging the makeup, putting too much on or not blending enough.

My mom said that I'd get better over time, but I just gave up entirely.

Kamila tucked the tube away. "Yesss, girl. I'm always prepared when it comes to helping my friends."

Friends? Did Kamila Harrison just call me her friend?!

The other girls nodded in agreement.

Kamila led us outside of the football field and to a black Mercedes with a bunch of older guys huddled around talking and smoking.

"Hey babe." a guy in a biker's jacket drawled. "You done here?"

"Not yet." Kamila purred. "I need to give my newest friend some help. Bring life back to those eyes." she pats my cheek, smiling.

I try not to shiver. Her hand is cold.

The guy looks me over and brings the cigarette back to his mouth. "You're right about that."

The other guys howled their agreement and I felt the urge to run away screaming. Something in me told me that these people were up to no good.

"This is my boyfriend Chase and a few of his buddies," Kamila said. "Come. We have work to do."

...

When Kamila had finished working her magic she opened a compact mirror and I blinked at the girl staring back at me.

"You look stunning."

She had applied a light layer of concealer that made my skin appear clearer and smooth, then she put eyeliner on my eye with a little flick on the end, to make my eyes appear attractive, I guess. My lips were lightly tinged with pink.

"Wow." I blink.

"I know." Kamila slammed the compact lid shut. "I work miracles, don't I, girls?"

I glance into the backseat where her other friends had sat to watch her. They all bobbed their heads.

A girl with glossy black hair smirked. "Huge improvement from the nerdy look you're always sporting." she flipped her hair over her shoulder. "I'm Victoria. My friends call me Tor."

"Hey, Tor."

I was proud of how steady my voice was.

"Come on, girls. The guys are waiting for us. We have places to be." Kamila threw open the driver's door and climbed out. "Come on, Evelyn."

Not one to disappoint I climbed out of the car and stood. The guys were all perched on motorcycles, passing around a drink.

Chase rolled his eyes. "I thought you guys had died in there." he nods at me. "You did good, babe."

"I always do." Kamila murmurs, placing a firm kiss on his mouth.

I turn away to give them privacy and stood nervously to the side, unsure what to do. Tor made a move toward a guy with a nose ring before she glanced back at me.

"You ok?"

 I swallow. "Y-Yeah."

"Well, find someone and hop on. We can't be late!"

Late? For what?

My phone vibrates and I tap on the screen. It's my mom.

Hey, honey, just checking in. Let me know how things are going. Remember: 8:30 or I will have the police out looking for you!!

A guy with a military-style cut was eyeing me, then turned away when I spotted him watching. I'm not going to lie he's stunning, but Trevor has him beat.

I tuck my phone away making a reminder to check in when we get to wherever we're going. I make my way toward the military guy.

"Hey."

Woah. His voice is deeper than I thought it would be.

"Hi."

He has golden skin and bright hazel eyes that glow under the streetlights. He grabbed a helmet from his lap and held it out to me.

I grab it and climb on behind him. I have never, like, never, ever been on one of these. My mom refuses to let me get on them claiming that they're deathtraps.

I was about to pull the helmet on then I hesitated. "You sure you don't need it?"

"Positive. I've been driving Betty for a couple of years." the guys chuckled. "I'm Devonté."

"If you say so. Pleasure, I'm Evelyn." I pull on the helmet. "You named your bike?"

Chase whooped. "Let's gooo!

He took off and the guys trailed after him. When Devonté's engine roared to life, it sent chills racing up and down my spine. Devonté glanced over his shoulder. "We've been through everything together. Can't blame me, can you? She's my baby. Don't tell the other guys, though; I'd never hear the end of it! I'd hang on if I were you."

I take in his broad shoulders and buff arms.

"Uh.."

"Or you don't have to."

We jerked forward and my arms immediately wrapped around his middle. He chuckled and sped off after Chase and them. It wasn't as bumpy as I thought it was going to be. It was actually pretty smooth.

Maybe, dropping this whole nerd wallflower thing is going to work.

I tagged this book, come and support me with a thumbs up!
