Waitress in the day, Vampire at night

*Excerpt* "Argh..." Ellie forced herself to stop moving, and she pushed the man dragging her away by her arm with all the strenght she could muster. "Aren't you listening to me? He's only a child. Please." she pleaded. The man was as solid as a concrete wall, and although he barely moved a step away despite the force she used in pushing him, her actions seemed to have made him stop dragging her. Or maybe not. Because the next second, she heard the sound of the sole of a shoe hit the ground, then another, and another... Turning around in apprehension, she realized the painter had finally turned from his painting and was walking toward her. Her bones froze instantly. His face... She had no words to describe how beautiful he was, even though his skin was almost white. His dark brown hair fell over his forehead, almost covering his dangerously cold dark grey eyes. His steps were slow and majestic, making him look like a top ranked demon walking out of hell with just one agenda — to end her miserable life. He reeked of bloodlust, and the aura around him radiated death and destruction. The hairs on her skin stood up in reaction to the threat approaching her, and knowing she couldn't outrun him, she fell on her knees. "P-please, I-im s-sorry for disturbing you a-and pushing him. My brother is only a child. He's sick and I'm the only one he has. If you must imprison me, then I beg you to at least take him to an orphanage." Ellie pleaded, stuttering for the first time in her life, her eyes fixed on the floor. A moment later, she felt a cold finger touch her chin, pushing her head. When that was done, he took off her mask, exposing her face. Ellie's heart was beating wildly by this time. There was no trace of warmth, neither did any emotion register on his face upon seeing her complete facial features. It was just plain, cold, blankness. "You are in no position to make demands." His lips finally moved, and the words that came out of his mouth crushed Ellie's heart. "It's not a demand. Just a request. I don't want him to die." She persisted. "What makes you think I would grant such a request?" "Because it's the right thing to do." Ellie gave the obvious answer, but his face twisted like she just spit poison at him. "Do I look like someone who gives a fuck about doing the right thing?" "No!" Ellie answered truthfully. "I'm sorry. I made a mistake. Saving my brother is not the right thing. It is the wrong thing. In fact, I can assure you it is the wrongest thing to do." She made a quick U-turn, and the painter's brows flew up in surprise for just a second, before his next order jumped out of his mouth. "Take her away." *** Life dealt Ellie Sander a cruel blow when her parents suddenly died in a car crash, leaving her to cater for her five year old anaemic brother, whose ability to walk was affected by the same crash. With no money, no stable job, and no help coming from anywhere, she was forced to take advantage of the insecurity in their town to fend for herself and her brother. Being a waitress in the day and a fake Vampire at night, she raised enough money and all went well until one night when she met with the real vampire, and her freedom was taken away.

Fix his legs

After speaking with Enrique and giving him instructions to get Ellie out of the cell, Storm returned to the room, but became confused when he saw Nicholas' face twisted in discomfort.

"What's wrong?" He queried, wondering what went wrong in the few seconds he left the boy's side.

"I need to pee," Nicholas explained his current predicament. He had been pressed ever since he woke up but couldn't say anything or act on it because of the initial fear.

"Bathroom is over there." Storm pointed to the door by his right-hand side, and Nicholas followed with his eyes. However, instead of moving, his face twisted further as he moved his gaze back to Storm.

"What now?" Storm was befuddled. Didn't he just say he wanted to pee?

"I… I can't go on my own. I can't walk. Someone has to take me there." Nicholas explained, shocking Storm.

"You can't walk?" Storm threw the question just to be sure of what he just heard. When Nicholas nodded, he wanted to ask further questions, not understanding how a boy his age could not walk.

But he refrained from speaking further or asking any more questions, remembering he hadn't peed yet.

"Seth," Storm called and Seth walked into the room. "He can't walk. Take him to the bathroom and help him pee."

Confusion and incredulity registered on Seth's face. At this point, he didn't understand what was going on with Storm anymore. And did he just say the boy can't walk? Why?

Even as these questions floated around in his head, he wordlessly moved to carry out the order. He effortlessly carried Nick to the bathroom.

"Can you stand?" He asked the boy, and he shook his head.

"I can only sit and lie down," Nick answered.

With that, Seth supported him while he did his business. They returned to the bedroom when he was done.

"What's your name?" Storm threw a question.

"Nicholas Sander."

"How old are you, Nicholas?" Another question.

"Five."

"And you can't walk?"

"I used to walk before, until… until after our car hit another car, and… and Mum and Dad went to heaven and left me and Ellie here. I couldn't feel my legs again." Nicholas cleared the confusion.

Although that was the first time Storm heard someone refer to death as going to heaven, he still understood that was what the boy meant.

An unnoticeable smile curved on his lips and disappeared just as quickly as it appeared. He now saw another reason why he couldn't bring himself to hurt the boy.

"Who told you they are in heaven." He questioned, wanting to continue the conversation and continue hearing the boy speak. His initial fear seemed to have dissipated after knowing his sister would not be harmed. He no longer looked like the frail, little, crying mess that was brought into the palace last night. He was now a little more relaxed and talking freely, and from the way he speaks, Storm detected he was an intelligent one.

"They told me. They used to come to visit and talk to me." Nicholas nodded in certainty.

Storm knitted his brows. That answer made him remember a very important question he wanted to ask.

"How did you know I have your sister?" He queried, already suspecting from his previous answer that Elfin might be right about the boy being gifted.

"I saw you."

"How and where did you see me?"

"In my dream. You looked so scary, and you wanted to hurt her. Your eyes were like fire and your teeth were long and sharp, and…" Nicholas paused to take a breath before he continued talking. "... And your fingernails were long too, and you had wings like a bird." He finished his descriptions, then moved his eyes to Storm's back. He couldn't see anything that indicated the guy had wings, but the same applied to eyes like fire, long teeth, and fingernails. He pretty much looked like a normal adult male, save for his slightly pale skin and domineering aura.

While he was still speaking, a look of intrigue plastered on Storm's face, while Seth looked like he couldn't believe what his ears were hearing.

"What's your name?" Nicholas asked, bringing his eyes to settle on Storm's face. From the expression on the boy's face, one could tell he was confused about something.

"You can call me Master Storm."

"Master Storm." Nicholas tested the name, then nodded when he was sure he got it. "Are you a vampire?" He asked, wanting to confirm his suspicion after what he saw. He had no doubt the person he saw and just described was Storm. But right then, he had none of those features apart from the face and aura.

A knock interrupted them at that very moment, saving Storm from responding to the question. Not that he wouldn't have answered if the knock had not come at that time.

"Come inside." Storm gave permission to enter, and the door was opened from the outside.

Nicholas fixed his eyes on the entrance to see who was about to enter. An unfamiliar man walked into the room. Just like Seth, he had no hair on his head, but his face was more pleasant and friendly.

"Master Storm." Ken gave a full bow, only straightening when Storm waved for him to do that.

"What do you have?" Storm went straight to the point.

"He's anemic." Doctor Ken reported, glancing at Nicholas, whose bright and curious eyes were fixed on him.

"I know that already. He can't walk. He said he lost his ability to walk after a car accident. Why is that?"

"There are many possible reasons for that. I'll need to conduct an extensive examination on him to know the exact problem and solution."

"Hospital, I presume?"

"Yes. He will need to be brought to the hospital."

Storm nodded. "Take him with you. And do everything you can to fix his legs."

Nicholas' eyes snapped back to Storm, alarm flashing in them.

As if knowing what was going on in his mind, Storm reassured him. "Don't worry. Once you're better, you'll see your sister again."
