Golems part 1

The Healing stopped shortly after, My foot was scabbed over but not fully healed, and just as I was wondering why it had stopped, I started to feel a headache, and my vision began to go black as I collapsed into my chair, immediately falling asleep.

When I woke up I was feeling refreshed and a bit confused about where I was, but that quickly passed and I started to remember all the discoveries I had made the …night before? Lifting the hatch, I found that rays of morning light were just peeking through the windows. It seemed that morning role call had not yet happened, which didn't apply to me anyway, Miss C didn't bother to look for me if I wasn't there, my time at the orphanage was running out anyhow. Fortunately, this worked out fine for me, as I had some magicking to do.

I had found out why I passed out right after using mana, I just had to check the book and discovered that it was most likely because I ran out of mana, my body using up all that I could hold, it had to replenish itself. Which it did in the form of nocking me out. Surprisingly I felt better than ever after waking, this seemed to be due to circulating my mana which had grown to be stagnant.

I quickly checked how my ankle was doing, it was in the same state as when I fell unconscious. With that over, I could finally start to experiment with the runes, I pulled out the makeshift knife that I had used to carve my first rune "a razor blade attached to a stick" only to stop and realize I didn't know what to do or where to even start, I had nothing to go off of other than books and movies that the caretakers showed the kids, if I was going to do something using magic, it would need to be simple and easy to conceal, a test.

I spent the next couple of hours flipping through the book looking for something easy and useful, by the time I was done role call had passed with no issue, and the afternoon was starting. I had decided that I was going to attempt to create a Golem. A little animated being that would obey my command, nothing complex just a practice test as described in the book, in the section for teacher resources and homework.

Even though it was just a practice item for beginners it was much more difficult than the enhance rune, using runes far more complex and connected than I would normally attempt, if it wasn't for the step-by-step guide I had. I made a little animal that was mostly just a four-legged blob, but it would do carving the runes in I noticed that it required a rune called Void, the rune in question did the simple task of pulling mana from the void world into our own, this is what powers the golem, so I wouldn't have to constantly supply it with my mana.

I completed all my runes and had a ruff Golem in front of me, the last step was to supply mana to the Void rune so that it could kick start the rune into supplying mana for the other runes. I decided that I would use a different method than rubbing for static power, and instead grabbed a battery from my collection of garbage, holding the battery in my pointer and thumb, I took in a deep breath and began to push my mana into the rune, feeling the pouring of my mana and the shock of the battery, I began to feel giddy as the excitement took over.

When my mana began to slow its pour and the shock of the battery was through, I prepared myself for the after-effects but they didn't seem to come "Is this because of the battery?" I muttered. My thoughts were interrupted by the toy golems runes beginning to glow, I sat there watching intently, as the blue glow slowly made its way to all the runes. once all the runes were glowing I waited. Just as I was about to try and figure out what was wrong, it slowly moved one of its legs, it slowly began to stand.

I was surprised that it had worked on the first try, but my surprise was quickly overwhelmed by my joy of creating a golem, the little golem even seemed to react to my happiness by wobbling around in a circle. It was quite weird to see a ball with legs moving, but I found myself enjoying it, I thought back to the book, the book said that it should listen to my commands, so I told it to sit, and it stopped and started to sit, its shape gave it a hard time, but eventually, the little guy managed to sit on its hind legs.

Now that the immediate joy had worn off a bit, I was wondering what I should do next, the little golem in front of me was not going to be of any use. I had made it to practice not so it could be useful to me. "Well I better give it a name, but what?" I said thinking aloud. I decided I would go with Bomb, just because its round shape gave it the appearance of one of those bombs you see in games the black ball bombs.

"Your name is the bomb and I'm your master," I said to the golem, Bomb didn't react, he continued to sit and stare, or at least I think he was staring at me, I couldn't tell, He didn't have eyes to see out of but he didn't have ears either, and he seemed to have listened earlier, so I don't know.

I wanted to make another, but I felt that it would be a waste just to make more, only for them to sit there and do nothing, But then I started to think about it, I would need help if I wanted to create more precise runes, and I didn't trust anyone else to keep my secret, or worse take it from me. So why don't I create my own helper?

If I was going to make a helper he would need to be better equipped than Bomb and have more control too, I divided back into the book hoping to find what I was looking for in its pages,
