The Truth Behind the Mask

~ C H A P T E R T H I R T E E N ~

Fear and doubt surrounds Stephen's mind as he uncertainly stood still over Walter's scared figure while thinking whether he would use the Mask or not; to make Walter speak. He is doubtful as the Mask's ability is yet to be known, and he's worried that something bad could happen to Walter if he were to use it to him. However, through all his thinking, Stephen's face remains determined and suggests that he would do otherwise.

"Go on, try it. Let's see what it does to you!" Walter said while laughing, almost suggesting that the Mask is dangerous even for the person who is wearing it. But Stephen's clever thinking picked up on Muller's act of trying to stop him from wearing it.

"You think you can fool me? Then why'd you use it when it can be dangerous to you? Strange, isn't it?" Stephen answered back, gazing intensely towards Walter's eyes as if he could see right through him.

Walter is taken aback by Stephen's attention to detail as he starts to gulp and ramble as to how the Mask is dangerous and how it could kill him and Stephen; probably still hoping that he would persuade him from not wearing the Mask.

However, despite all the warnings from Walter, Stephen tightly gripped the Mask as he slowly moves the Mask towards his face.

Walter's expression turned cold and grim as he shouts "YOU'LL DIE IF YOU WEAR THE MASK!" As soon as the Mask reached Stephen's face; wearing it, he shouted aggressively.

"Let's start over again! What did you plan and why do you need this Mask?! Tell me everything IN DETAIL." His fist nearly blew a punch, but he stop when he noticed Walter's expression, his laughs, and annoying pleas stopped. As out of a sudden Walter's face became colorlessly pale and emotionless, almost as if he was in a deep trance.

"I ordered my team to kill Stella Appleton to get the Mask back because I need to use it against the next elected president Brennan Pereira... As a leader of a revived Nazi organization, it is my job to eliminate the Jew president. I planned to kill both of the detectives to avoid more conflict but it was not successful,"

Walter responded with no expression, but as soon as he was done explaining, he smirked and looked straight into the detective's eyes. "However, you are too late."

Stephen is taken aback by what he had heard, and he quickly shouted.

"What do you mean too late?!"
