Learning the truth

Penelope and I took a carriage, it's a bit shabby but this is my first time actually so I'm a bit excited though my face shows no emotions Penelope manages to pick up on this. 

"Do you like this ride?"

I stiffened a bit and looked at Penelope's kind gaze, I nodded and looked at the window again. 

{You're swinging your foot Sammy~}

I looked at my swinging feet, I couldn't properly reach the floor of the carriage so I was swinging it, that's probably the reason why Penelope knew. 

"hehe"

She shuffled my hair, which reminded me more of mom. So I guess I got gloomy, Penelope again took notice and hugged me. 

She said nothing though, just her warm gentle smile. How come she ever managed to read my emotions when the people I interacted with for 2 years didn't?

"You're still young Sammy"

"...?"

She looked at me with the eyes of pity and another I cannot identify, but I know she isn't a bad person so I am fine with this. 

"So… act like a kid when you can… "

My mind was blank for a moment, I'm indeed so fixated on living because I have no choice, I never had a chance to act like a kid. And Penelope seems to know where mom is… 

I miss this feeling of relying on someone. It's not like I wanted this lifestyle, it was forced on me!

[Samuel, it's okay to cry]

I started sniffing, I just hugged Penelope she had given off the aura that I've been wanting to be enveloped in for years. 

A mother's hug, that's what I wanted any other anything in the world, why would I be ambitious when I have no drive? Why would I want to buy expensive things I don't need when the cheap item I have could just do the job? 

When it comes to wanting I just want things I already have, but that is also taken away from me. 

When we got to our destination, it was a mansion, Noble's mansion. I already knew Penelope is a noble but why here?

Is mom staying here?

Penelope took me to a room, she even had me wash up and all of that. I smell completely different. They even dressed me up. 

"oh my, he looks so cute..!"

"How adorable!"

The maids are starting to whisper at each other while weirdly looking at me, I started ignoring them. 

[something's strange]

"Samuel come here"

Finally, Penelope came to me and I immediately scurried to her. 

"How envious..! To open up to madam!"

"As expected of madam…!"

"Oh don't be like that you two"

Penelope scooped me up and started walking somewhere, I still have no idea of this development. 

"Sammy… don't be too surprised by what I'm about to say"

"...?"

Penelope entered a room, though it looked more like a bedroom and placed me down the side of the bed, she embraced me softly and said. 

"your mom… your mom has passed away"

My eyes shook and my eyes widened, no it can't be, I looked up at her and she was closing her eyes filled with guilt, why, why would you say that to me?

I started thrashing around but Penelope held me properly, I was getting tired with my mind full of denial. 

[Oh my… ]

"Wah! No! No! You're a liar! Mom isn't dead mom isn't dead! No, she isn't!"

"It's okay Samuel, it's okay… "

"No!!!"

I got tired from all of that, my face was a mess, and the light that I'd tried to earn for years on my eyes has completely vanished.

"We're trying to find your baby sister… So calm down... Okay?"

With those words, a glimmer of light came back to me, a new hope. 

"I-I won't forgive you if that's a lie!"

"I'm not, I'm not"

She gave me a weak smile obviously in pain too. I just looked at her with a hint of guilt and hugged her, I cried in her embrace as she patted my back. 

"Don't worry Samuel, don't worry"

I finally found him, the child of the black-haired woman, I was trapped in that hell hole for 3 weeks. I couldn't take it any longer. 

They took the woman off the cage and threw her into a large bonfire. They're looking at the body with annoyance and irritation, no mercy in those eyes at all. 

I made sure to make a way to kill them all one way or another, I can't let them roam the streets after all of these accidents. 

Not at all. Thanks to them my resolve is renewed, not everyone I met is good, this is the proof. Once they heard I've been doing charity they ambushed me and my maid. 

When I thought I would be there for another day a child with dark hair, the same as the dark sky and eyes like an endless abyss showed up. He was an adorable child like any other. 

"Have you seen my mom?"

"H-huh?"

"Same with me, black hair and eyes, she's a bit boney but she has a baby girl…"

My heart sank, I saw his mother but I couldn't tell this little child what I just saw, I can't at all.

In a span of a second his eyes changed to Blue, The child took out a short sword under his robe and attacked the lock that's keeping me in here. 

When it was opened he helped me with the cuffs too. When I looked at him again his eyes were back to black, maybe it was just an imagination?

"not here either"

He walked away. But I could only watch, not even moments later a few knights were carrying me taking me out of my daze. 

I didn't tell the child! 

Wait!

But I could only do nothing, so with my husband's permission, I used the intelligence troupe we have and tried to find the same child. 

I learned that his name is Samuel, the vendors call him Sammy or Green kid for some reason, but I learned that he's completely an adorable kid. 

They found him a couple of times and tried to approach him carefully, but in the end, he always ran away. 

Thanks to that child I managed to get home quickly, I even learned what my cute child was going through and immediately fired the tutor. 

I am the Marquis's wife, Penelope. And the Marquis house controls the strongest military in the Empire. 

Nobody could go against us. 

That's why, with all my power I will give that pitiful child my all, like my girl. Ophelia. 

And now, before me, I told the child the state of his mother, though I didn't tell all of it. 

"You're a liar!"

It still hurts to see him like this, the woman told me that she had a baby girl. And I'm trying to find a way to find her too. 

"mom… mom… "

Samuel muttered whilst having his tear plastered face on my body, it just made my heart sink to my stomach. 

Thanks to Sammy I managed to save my daughter in time, and manages to clean the House, now then. 

I'll make sure to clean the territory off slave traders so no child has to go through this experience again.
