Academy City

(A/n- Hello readers, sorry for 1 month hiatus. I just needed some break as I just recently got too busy. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the new chapter.)

Academy City,

As the city's name suggests, it is a city of several schools and institutions of higher learning from kindergarten to university level that learn side-by-side along with the scientists who research psychic powers and higher technology, the latter being one of the primary reasons for its establishment. It is the most advanced city in the world, and its technology is said to be 20 or 30 years ahead of the world. Academy City is composed of 23 districts, called school districts, which are simply numbered from one to twenty-three, and each of these districts has a specific purpose.

A bus stopped in district 7, and a blonde girl came out of the bus with a suitcase.

"Finally, I came to Academy City."

After traversing to the TOARU verse, I appeared outside the academy city. Because of this, I have to forge many fake identification certificates and documents to legally enter the academy city and to avoid trouble with Aleister Crowley. And finally, by wasting the whole week, I entered Academy City. And I even got enrolled in the Tokiwadai middle school as a third-year student. I never imagined that I would repeat my classes in one lifetime.

Anyway, I dragged my luggage and entered the Tokiwadai Dormitory. And I consulted with the gentle dorm supervisor, inquired about my room allotment, and climbed up to the first floor. But just as I and my supervisor entered, with a strong sound, electricity sparked, and as we rushed, we found two girls facing each other.

"Did you forget what my ability is? Now, I guess it's kill or be killed. If you cannot accept my love, then at least you battle me."

"Ahem." The supervisor behind me coughed, and her gentle face is no longer visible.

"Dormitory Rule, Section 9: Use of Esper abilities as strictly prohibited in the Dormitory Don't tell me you have forgotten that, Shirai."

"W-well hello, How are you, Miss Supervisor?"

Before she could explain anymore, she was grabbed by the supervisor with a perfect neck crack, and she was thrown directly to the side like garbage.

"Now, rulebreakers should be punished to realize their mistake. Don't you think so, Misaka?"

"Y-yes."

"Hoshino." As she called me, even I got chills on my back.

"I think you also understood how rulebreakers are treated, and I hope you will also follow every rule."

"Y-yes, mam." 

"And Misaka, one more thing. She is Amethyst Hoshino; she is new in Academy City. I hope you can help her. She will be living in room 202," she said, saying that she left.

"Nice to meet you. I am Amethyst Hoshino. I am new to Academy City, Level 2 Esper, Ability Cryokinesis. And I am a third-year student."

"Nice to meet you, Hoshino-Senpai. You kind of look somewhat similar to someone I know. Anyway, I am Misaka Mikoto; you can call me Misaka. And that dead person over there is my roommate Shirai Kuroko; please don't mind her."

"And they are Saten Ruiko and Uiharu Kazari. They are some of my friends who came to visit us."

"Nice to meet you; you all can call me Amy." I raise my hand for a handshake. And I observed a little change in the expression of Saten. I suppose she thinks that I am some kind of spoiled child. After introduction. All of us went to my room, which was on the second floor. The rooms on the second floor are all single rooms.

I have nothing much for my luggage. I brought only some clothes and electrical appliances with me in my suitcase. They all helped me arrange my things. After that, we went to a nearby coffee shop and said farewell to each other.

Now, I have to maintain my low-key persona to avoid being targeted by Aleister. But I am sure that I am already under his or her surveillance because I don't produce AIM fields like other Espers. So, I have to learn about the AIM field and learn to simulate it. And I have to fake my cryokinesis ability level, which may later convince Aleister that due to my low level, I was not able to produce an AIM field.

Academy City is a complete treasure city for me because of its technological developments, especially the Tree Diagram, which is the most important part of the Toaru verse. I just have to wait for the white-haired loli to use dragon breath over it, and then only I can easily steal the leftover.

It is almost 9 p.m.; I sneaked through the window and landed on the ground smoothly.

"Huh? Amy-Senpai." I turned and found Misaka was also sneaking from the window while using the electromagnetic property of an electric field to stick to the wall.

"Oh, Misaka-chan." Damn, mom has really influenced my character so much that I am subconsciously copying her. "Ha ha, don't mind me; I just wanted to get some fresh air." I said that I ran away with enough speed to leave Misaka behind.

According to the Tokiwadai rule, I have to wear the Tokiwadai uniform in public. But as I am sneaking out, I put on a black hoodie to avoid being spotted.

<Random Esper POV>

"Huh? You think you can get level upper just like that."

"You said it would only take 500 yen for level upper."

"Do you think this level upper will be sold this cheaply? Don't you see how precious it is to compete against high-level Esper? Either pay 2000 yen or get away."

"Here, take this; please give me the level upper."

The person who was negotiating signaled one guy from behind. That guy threw a USB toward the negotiator.

"Here, take this. You have to just listen to the data in this, and soon your ability will improve."

"Thank you very much,", the guy said, running away quickly with the USB.

"Boss, a level 2 Esper came here for the level upper."

"Did you find out about her?"

"Yes, she recently joined Tokiwadai and even recently entered Academy City."

"Huh? Another rich, spoiled princess Anyway, good for us; we can earn more money from her. And it seems she understands the necessity of Esper in the academy city; she is quite intelligent. Call her in."

After some time, a blonde girl with amethyst eyes entered.

"Senpai, I am Amethyst Hoshino. You see, I am quite troubled with my low Esper level. Can you give me a level upper, pretty please?" The girl said all this in a childish voice.

"And what can you give in return?"

"Oh, you misunderstood me, Senpai. I was not asking you." The next second, her temperament changed too much, and a cold voice rang in every ear. "I was just informing you to give me a level upper."

"Ha ha ha, as expected of a little spoiled princess, they are all arrogant. Don't think that with your level 2 cryokinesis, you can defeat everyone here." As he finished his word, he found that the girl was not in front of him.

"Matane, I got whatever I needed. I gotta go, or else I have to face a scary opponent in the dormitory." Everyone found the girl exiting while holding a USB in her hand. Wait, when did she get the USB?

"Everyone stop her." The guys near the exit door covered the door. A guy used his ability to control a rope and bind her. But she skillfully dodged, then suddenly put her foot on the wall and jumped over to get out of the circle surrounding her.

"Well, well. You started all this; don't blame me." She said that she raised her hand in a fighting position.

<MC POV>

"That was a good warm-up." I beat down each one of them while using their own ability to interfere with each other and alone with my physical strength.

And I finally got the most important thing for myself: a level upper. I know this is only effective for Esper and is also one of the parts of Kiyama Harumi's plan. But the only reason I need this is to connect to the whole brain wave network, learn about AIM from other perspectives, and create my own personal realm, or a true Esper, according to the academy city.

I can build a device that will connect my brain waves with the network and even easily cut off the network without any side effects. It is the fastest and safest way to learn about level upper.
