Chapter 83: The Great Speedster War Part 4: The Power of Charlie

Future Romaine's POV

"This guy's insane!" Jayden commented, running onto the field

"Am I seeing clearly?" Kirk questioned, leading the Garrisons onto the field

"Thousands of mindless soldiers with super speed? Yeah." Sam responded

Now that the rest of Charlie Division is here, we'll be able to go on the offense while they hold off the Marauders.

"Kirk!" I called out to him, "Lead Charlie to start an initial push then hold your position!"

"Copy that!" he said

Kirk, AKA Kaleidoscope, casted multiple lenses in the air, which shot out numerous multi-colored beams of light at the Marauders.

"Wisp! Fire-Phoenix! Give us some fire! Wall, create a barrier to keep them out of the city! Bigger is better. Shulker, assist with the counter push!" He ordered

"You got it boss!" Will-o-Wisp, also known as Jake, responded

Us speedsters temporarily halted our attacks to make way for the other Heroes.

The Marauders charged towards Charlie Division at full speed, but were no match for their staggering power.

Malcom, (Hero Name: The Wall), clenched his hands and brought them into the air.

"Barrier Construct Creation: Great Wall of China!" he announced

Out of thin air, large translucent bricks made out of energy started materializing.

The more bricks that formed the faster they materialized. They all automatically arranged themselves into a massive wall. The wall itself was nearly a hundred feet high, and stretched out for miles in either direction.

"Woah." Jayden went, "That's so cool!"

"That's the Garrisons for ya." Sam commented, "A truly exceptional team of heroes."

Now that there was a giant wall between us on the battlefield and the city, collateral damage should be reduced by several times during the war. And if they break through our defense then there's always the wall as a last line of defense; the question is, how long can he maintain it?

"Great." Kirk commended, "Wisp, Phoenix, you're up!"

Will-o-Wisp and Fire-Phoenix took to the air, showcasing their fiery flight for all to see.

"It's been a while since we teamed up huh Jesse?" jested Wisp

"It hasn't been that long." She replied

"We haven't been in a fight together since you moved to Aires. Our teamwork might be rusty."

"I highly doubt that."

Will-o-Wisp summoned his ghost-like embers into the palm of his right hand.

"Spirit Flame." he beckoned

And Fire-Phoenix created her wild flames in her left hand.

"Phoenix Fire." She called

They both put forth their hands, combining their flames and directing them towards the field.

"Combo Attack: Blazing August Inferno!" they shouted

A great raging fire came out from their palms, emanating the form of a dark red phoenix.

The fire lit up a great portion of the battlefield, setting hundreds of the Marauders on fire.

"Seems like they have no fire resistance." I pointed out, watching as the burning Marauders were reduced to nothing but ashes

"My turn." said Chris, (Hero Name: Shulker)

He directed his hand towards the Marauders and guided more of them to the existing flames.

Then by clenching his fist, Chris increased the air pressure, thus intensifying the power of the flames.

"Are these guys about to carry the entire war?" Sam speculated

"They might as well." I mumbled to myself

-"That was great you guys."- Cas said, -"The members of Charlie Division managed to take out 739 of the Marauders."-

"That many?" I questioned, "Wow, their power is nothing to be taken lightly."

-"Other members of Aires and Portland are now here. They'll need help getting past the wall."

"Chris." Kirk called, "Bring em over."

"Way ahead of you." Chris replied, already levitating the new heroes over the 100ft wall

Jesse and Jake went to follow up their onslaught, preparing another attack.

"Spirit Flame"

"Phoenix Fire"

This time they created a massive tornado out of their flames.

"Combo Attack: Ace Fire Whirlwind!"

The fire blazed on the field, killing even more Marauders.

"Love birds." Samuel scoffed

"Charlie Division! Leave none of them standing!" Kirk commanded

More of Kirk's lenses formed in the air, having different patterns than the last.

"Kaleidoscope 2nd Configuration: Light Bearing Arrows" he announced

The lenses he formed in the air fired countless sharp projectiles made of light; taking out dozens more of the Marauders.

"It's about time we rejoined the fight." I thought out loud, "Alpha! Beta! Follow Charlie's lead!"

The speedsters joined the fight, picking off those that were out of the range of the fire.

"Cas, how are we looking with those numbers?" I questioned

-"Our combined forces total to 22 thus far; 4 in Alpha, 7 in Beta and 11 in Charlie. And so far we've only been able to take out just over a thousand of the speed soldiers, which leaves another 6,000 and counting."-

Zero laughed off in the distance.

"Try all you want Romaine!" he challenged, "There's no way you'll have what it takes to defeat me!"

I know he's just trying to draw me out, but if we don't push through now then we might not get a change later.

"Taylor." I called, communicating on the Division Commander Channel, "See if you and Beta can create an opening for us. Kirk, you and Charlie hold them off as long as possible."

-"Yes Sir."- they affirmed

"Sam, we're gonna try to push pass their ranks. Once the others clear a line all the way to Zero, we'll attack him head on."

"You got it boss."

After a few minutes had passed, we fought off more of the Marauders until our opening was created.

"Combo Attack: Hallowing Fire Tornado!"

By combining Jake's Spirit Flames with Jesse's Phoenix Fire and Chris' Air Pressure Manipulation, the three were able to create a tall rotating column of fire, sweeping through the enemy's forces and paving a line in its path.

"That's it." I pointed out, "Let's go Alpha."

I, along with the three other speedsters in Alpha Division ran through the opened path, gunning it straight for Black Zero.

"Ah Romaine, so naïve as usual." Zero commented

From the skies a bolt of lightning struck those of us who were making our way towards him.

"Romaine!" Taylor shouted, coming over to help, "Are you alright?"

"I'm fine I'm fine." I sighed, rubbing my aching head, "We might just need to reevaluate our plan."

I noticed the dark rifts that were summoning the Marauders close, that must mean he's out of juice for the Philosophers' Stone.

Though I might need to reevaluate that assumption as well; immediately after that, 5 more dark rifts opened, and a giant more bulky version of the Marauders came out of each of them.

"What in God's name?" Sam questioned

"He has Speed Golems too?" I thought out loud

"Bad news." said Taylor

Each of us were crushed by the golems, not even given a chance to retaliate.

"Pitiful." Zero commented

With just the five of us out here on the frontlines being swept across the floor, there was no chance at breaking through to Zero now.

I could hear the screams and desperate cries of Taylor and the others as the golems smashed them to pieces. Just as my one was about to finish the job, another speedster came crashing down; punching off the golem's head with a high voltage speed punch.

"Should I be worried about that?" Donte questioned, giving off a nervous smile, "Anyways sorry I'm late."

"They're mindless creatures. No harm done I guess." I responded, taking his hand to help stand up, "What took you guys so long?"

"You know it's not exactly easy to run all the way from Antarctica while waiting on other people."

"By other people he means Melany." Shante added, helping Taylor out with her golem

"That is untrue." Melany defended, helping out Samuel

"Satori Regiment's here!" one of the speedsters here announced

"The Twin Miracles: Excel the Prodigy and Radical the Phantasmagoric!" another one said

"And they're accompanied by Trail Blazer!"

"Seems like you guys allotted a fanbase." I commented

"I don't really see what the big deal is." Donte admitted, "We're just like any other hero."

"You can speak for yourself." Melany interjected, "I'm awesome."

The group of us refocused our views to Zero, who seemed quite contempt with the situation.

"So Zero," Donte spoke to him ,"long time no see. After all these years I finally get to avenge my mother."

"We'll make you pay for what you did to her." Shante agreed

"Bring as many reinforcements as you'd like," he scoffed, "I'll take on all of you!"
