I like my powers but she don't!

Stephen woke up from his deep sleep, he thought that he had been dreaming about last night and he beamed at the Iron Man posters on his blue wall and jumped up and down on his bed.

"Yeah! Haha!" He jumped off and sped to the wardrobe to have a change of clothes. He scooted past his father on a stool past the kitchen.

"Morning dad_"

"Mor_" He did a double take on his son Stephen while carrying a cardboard box.

"Son, you're up so...early." He commented filling up the new blender with fruit.

Buzz*

Jason Curry was his father, he was thirty-five years old and he owned a single superstore.

"You done your homework yet?"

"Nuh uh. Not thirsty." He added raising a finger and swiped the cereal box. He shook the contents into the bowl of milk.

"You will be. As soon as you drink your smoothie. You can have...the..."

His expression softened.

Stephen burped and picked up his backpack. "I'm off."

"Wait, it's not a school day and drop your backpack. Feed the dog before you run off."

He groaned rolling his eyes.

"Come on...let me see some attitude. The other one."

He stopped pouting and he ruffled Bear's head and faked a smile. Bear was a seven year-old St Bernard's.

"So...about last night." Jason slowly announced raising a smoothie up to his lip and Stephen's hair stood up.

"Last night? What about it?"

Jason turned around now. His day-old beard was enhanced his weathered look when he grinned. Stephen thought he should have been on the cover of Dad's Monthly.

Jason stepped up. "Stephen... Alexander Curry, you mean to tell me...that you actually took out the garbage?" He said inbetween laughs. His blue eyes were crescents.

Stephen chuckled. "I um...Yes, because that's what good kids do."

He still marveled last night's occurrence. He licked his lips. "Dad? I want you to know?...that last night at the backyard? Those trenches? Those were Bear's fault."

Bear winced at him.

Stephen cackled and scooted outside. "Yeah!"

He was in the mood for a quick spree, he zoomed off to an ice cream joint and he swiped his favourite. Vanilla. He yanked a pretzel eating a mouthful. He had a mental map of the small city in Cincinnati.

He could find his way around.

He licked the ice-cream before it melted and stole a few comics from a comic book store (limited edition).

Stephen huffed after the run, at first, he had the motions. He shook it off and the he saw the news.

...

Ernestine hugged her knees in her bedroom, her windows were closed and she slowly checked her trembling fingers.

"This isn't real." She told herself and she winced when the vase trembled.

"Hi!"

"Ah!" She fell over. "Oof!"

Stephen crept inside from the window. "Sheesh man, pull yourself together. It's just a one time thing."

She had moppy blonde hair, her eyes were bloodshot and they twitched.

"What are you doing here?" She asked in a harsh voice.

"Nothing...nothing, I just came over to say hi and you look like dung." He snorted.

She frowned and pushed him down to the threshold.

Stephen clambered around to face her at her doorstep. "Hey!"

"Get out." She shut the door and huffed.

"You know, this would have been funnier if I just zipped in there. You know you can't avoid this!" He said by the window.

She tried to make something out of her room, there were broken pieces of paper clay on the carpet. Her father's favourite figurine was broken all because of the stones she inadvertently controlled.

"I am going crazy." She chanted.

"Yes you are." His voice came from the background and her rage brewed.

"This is all your fault Stephen!" She roared.

"You know? You have to be the only one right now who's unhappy about having superpowers."

Her eyes moved around the window. Stephen kept shifting from one pane to another that her brain started to interpret that there were two of him. Which was worse.

"Don't you dare touch anything!"

"I won't...promise you that." He pointed a finger.

Knock knock*

"What do you want?" Her voice echoed from inside of her living room.

He lowered his head staring at the footprint dents on the floor.

"I just came over so we could talk about your favourite topic? Research!" He slapped the comic book on her window.

She rolled her eyes. "Typical. As if Research was a topic. And you gladly assumed that I would waste my time flipping through comics. Go away!" She roared.

Stephen mouthed her words when she muttered something about big responsibility.

"Okay...I'll check on you later."

He slipped the books under her doorstep and waited. "Okay, bye." He ran to school.

...

8:00AM

Clancy Junior High School.

The principal Austin McDevitt gazed at the trio at the library.

A dark skinned girl blowing on bubble gun, a boy with his green cap facing backwards and a colored boy with glasses.

McDevitt had full grey hair, brown eyes, a robust face, a big nose and his lips were purser. He wore a cream shirt, brown pants, a brown tie and loafers. He adjusted his tie moving around the library.

"Anyway...the reason why you juvenile delinquents are here today is because your behaviour is exceptionally...disgraceful..."

Stephen was grinning at the panels with The blur and he laughed out loud.

The others glanced at him blankly.

Stephen sat up quickly on his bench, he wore a blue jacket, jeans, red baseball boots and a white T-shirt.

He adjusted his hair.

"Stephen."

He gulped. "YesMister McDevil? Have you been hitting the gym_"

He swiped his comic book. "Nice_Try."

"Hey! Those are in mint condition, I bought them with my hard-earned mon_"

"I've personally spent hours, Mister Curry, hours! on screening your bad grades..."

Stephen's lip stretched into a smile while he spoke about his grades declining and he heard the others chuckling.

"You honestly need a tutor."

He pulled at the string of his backpack when the principal resorted to lecturing them about the psychology of failure and inadequacy.

When he walked past Stephen's desk, he chuckled at the BUTTFACE remark on the paper taped to his back.

The others bursted into laughter.

HAHAHA!

"What is it?" He roared, they held their breaths, snorting. He reached behind him plucking out the paper.

"I see. There could only be one person with such despicable handwriting...Alexander? Do you have anything important to say?"

Stephen's heart raced rapidly, more than he thought it should. "Yes. I don't."

They laughed.

He shook his head. "Maybe a hundred-page undertaking would be a suffice punishment."

Stephen flipped the fresh book open. "You can't be serious."

"Yes, I am and perhaps you have enough time work on your handwriting. It's..."

"Despicable?" He added flatly and Principal Austin's face turned to an unflattering red and he sniffed.

"Of course. Now all of you get to studying. I shall see you delinquents in a few hours." He said and crushed the paper and dumped it in the refuse bin.

"Way to go, Steph." The boy with the yellow cap said from behind him. Ruffling his hair.

"Don't touch me." He waved a hand. "It was no big deal anyway."

"Yo!" The boy with glasses called sitting on the table. "Yo, did you see the news about the meteor? Shit's crazy man. Look at the views in one night, over a million likes! In the neighbourhood." He nodded in approval.

"What meteor?" Stephen asked cluelessly.

"I don't see nothing new about a meteor. That's just a video of you praying about the end times." Felicity smacked the phone out of her view.

"It's not a shower." AJ said. "It's serious. Look, it crashed at the river_"

Stephen stretched up. "River?"

Principal McDevitt looked inside the library and eyed the four of them.

"Did I hear a beep?...Anyone?"

The tension rose in the air.

Stephen bit his lip. 'I hope no one finds out'
