Chapter 55: Assault on the Church

Luc POV

Rank had its privileges. Royalty could do whatever they pleased. 

It satisfied Luc no end to see his royal troops swarming around the Church of Nosferatu, arresting priests, monks, and nuns alike, threatening to stake them if they resisted. 

The eerie Gothic cathedral, considered by many to be a beautiful piece of architecture, looked like a bastion of treason in Luc's eyes. Its needle-like spires and bell tower weren't too high for him to storm the place. 

He marched through the doors and went right through to the sanctuary, where a lone, ghostly pale figure stood at the altar, blocking the soldiers. Father Athanasius Reyes looked too uppity for his own good.

"Father Reyes, this entire church is complicit in treason," Luc said, projecting his voice throughout the grand space. "You have one chance to save your church. Denounce Prince Dimitri for his high crimes against the crown."
