"I'm getting more and more irritable," Elmer, wearing a white tracksuit, was walking back with his backpack. He yawned and felt a tickle in his throat. He took out a coke from his backpack and drank it, but his throat still itched. He looked at his left arm and saw a row of neat teeth marks that he had bitten himself. For some reason, Elmer had been biting things recently, like how mice like to gnaw on things.

"I'm feeling sleepy again. I don't know if it's because of the weather," Elmer lifted his head and looked at the sun, which was scorching and forced him to lower his head and continue walking. It was June, and if the weather wasn't hot, something was wrong. However, as Elmer grew older, he found that he hated light more and more. Sometimes, he wished he could live underground like a mouse. But compared to the disgusting mouse, Elmer might prefer to be a vampire. In his memory, vampires were a very noble and mysterious race. They slept in coffins during the day and appeared to drink blood at night. He always felt that drinking blood was accompanied by some dirty things, like sex.

Although Elmer had attended a university in the city, he was still a pure virgin. "Hey, Elmer, catch!" A girl riding a bicycle passed by Elmer and threw a love letter at him.

Elmer looked at the girl in a white dress and shouted, "Luna, I'm not looking for a girlfriend! Don't keep doing this!"

Luna turned around, innocently smiling. The breeze lifted her skirt, revealing a white panty that caught Elmer's attention for a while.

When Elmer came back to his senses, Luna was already gone, leaving only the love letter in his hand as proof of her presence.

Elmer looked at the surface of the love letter, where several pink words occupied most of the space, saying "Luna loves Elmer."

"What a silly girl," Elmer smiled faintly and folded the love letter, habitually throwing it into the nearby trash can.

After walking for three minutes, Elmer saw his home. It was a typical commercial housing, with three bedrooms, one living room, one kitchen, and one bathroom. It was not big, and living in it was quite crowded. Elmer had his own room, his older and younger sisters shared a room, and his mother and father shared a room. His mother was a junior high school teacher, and his father worked for an airline as a captain. He rarely came back home, usually only once every two weeks, and sometimes it took Elmer several months to see his father, especially when he had weekend classes.

When he got to the door, Elmer realized that the door wasn't even locked.

"Strange, they should have locked the door," Elmer muttered and gently pushed the door open. "Mom, are you there?" he called out. But there was no answer.

Elmer took off his sneakers and put on his black slippers before entering the house. He went to the kitchen and saw that the food was all in the thermos. He then walked to his younger sister's and little sister's room and opened the door. But they were not there.

"That's weird. Why haven't they come back yet?" Elmer muttered as he walked towards his mother's room. He pushed the door open but didn't see anyone inside.

Elmer walked into his parents' room and saw a hard piece of paper on the floor. He picked it up casually and his eyes widened in disbelief. "No way," Elmer shouted, his eyes turning slightly bloodshot. "It can't be true. My dad can't be dead. He can't be dead!"

Elmer's breathing became very fast and his chest started to ache. The hard piece of paper was a letter sent by the airline company, saying that his father died while on duty because he was sucked into the engine while checking the air vent during a flight that encountered a tailwind. There was even a company stamp in the lower right corner.

Looking at this hard piece of paper that brought misfortune to his entire family, Elmer crumpled it up and threw it on the ground, shouting, "Why did my father have to die? Why couldn't someone else die instead?"

Elmer covered his forehead and knelt on the ground, tears streaming down his face. His hands were bulging with veins, and his face turned slightly green, as if he were angry. He slowly opened his mouth and his two canine teeth gradually elongated, like a vampire.

"No, I have to become strong!" Elmer tried to control his emotions, and his fangs slowly became shorter, no different from those of an ordinary person. Elmer stood up and slowly walked out of the room. If his mother had seen this paper, he would have to find her now. If even his mother was in trouble, Elmer would be left with no parents.

Elmer walked out of his mother's room, not knowing where to go. As he was wandering, he heard the sound of running water coming from the bathroom. His first instinct was that his mother was in there, but he didn't know if she was taking a shower. He approached the bathroom door and politely knocked, asking, "Mom, are you in there?"

As soon as Elmer spoke, the sound of the water seemed to become chaotic.

"Mom?" Elmer called again. He was feeling very conflicted at this point. If his mother was in there and not willing to respond to him, he needed to see her!

After waiting for a while without any response, Elmer knocked harder and called out, "Mom, if you're in there, please open the door!"

Still, there was no answer from inside.

Elmer knew that he was already feeling down after his father's death, and now with someone inside not willing to respond to him, he took a few steps back and charged at the door like a wild animal. He slammed into the door, sending it flying to the side, and saw his mother crouched in the corner, naked and holding her knees, crying like a wounded child.
