I glanced between them. "Why do I have to choose?" I asked.

"Because the King chose you to do so," said Felix.

I looked up to the balcony, and standing above Rilian was King Lucas. He was looking right at me. I squared off my shoulders and lifted my chin.

"My Lord," I addressed him. "What happens to the one I do not choose?"

King Lucas smiled, leaning forward onto his elbows playfully as he looked down at us.

"Oh, well, I suppose since I am in good humor," he said with a chuckle, "I'll simply let them pass. I would hate to burden you with the fate of another life."

I bowed my head and turned back.

This was not better. If anything, it was worse. I was nearly sure I could not beat Antony, a vampire twice my size, and Eyran was so frail, just a human.

Hearing the King's choice, he laughed out loud.

"It's a win/win for me then," said Antony, grinning at me, "so what's it gonna be, LITTLE BOY?"
