Hunting and Devouring (2)

Alex spent 2 hours killing wild boars. It took him 1 minute to kill a single a boar but after finishing it he had to spend his next five minutes resting to recover his MP.

During the hours, he got 40 XP, 120 copper and by finishing enemies with devouring his various attributes increased steadily. As he thought he said

Alex was pleased with his increasing statistics, but the time he wasted through resting made him uncomfortable. Originally his decision was to keep killing wild boars till he reach level 2.

Looking at his status, and at the time he took resting between fighting, "It will be better to return and submit the mission." Alex thought and did as he started heading back.

As Alex was about to arrive at the guide's location he thought about investing in mana recovery potions. In the beginning, the copper and silver coins are precious and are needed in many scenarios. In general, if you have a capable guild it can solve the early problems, just having some mana and health potions can make your early leveling way faster and easier.

Alex being a student of the Eternal Academy could apply to be a rookie at any guild which is sponsoring the institute. Of course if you want to join the guild you have to meet its requirements. Some have level criteria, some need you to make corresponding progress and some of them even have gender restrictions.

Despite of joining a guild sounds good and can bring many benefits, it is impossible for Alex as he has a secret he must keep hidden.

Alex checked his backpack and after counting his money, he was sad to discover that he only had 1 silver coin and 50 copper. In Utopia Online 100 copper coin is equal to 1 silver, and 100 silver coin count for 1 gold coin.

Maybe his meager wealth can allow him to trade some coins for mana recovery potions. In the game, you are able to buy potions in specific vendors, but buying in their shops will cost you a lot. The other cheaper way is to buy it from other players who have learned potion making skills.

Secondary professions can be learned after reaching level 10, which doesn't help his need too much right now, but the newby joined guild members are usually have these kinds of potions to make their leveling faster.

Alex thought as he said loudly: "Buying level 1 mana recovery potions for one and a half silver, I trade with the one who offers the most."

" I can offer 5 pieces of mana potions for 5 silver" "I can offer 6 piece"

Peoples started to surround him and speak to him about their offer. Alex knew that money was precious in the beginner village as high-level players couldn't gift money to the newbies till they reach level 10.

People kept bidding and when the price reached 20 piece of potions.

"I offer 30" as the voice sounded, the crowd suddenly quieted down and give way to a team of level 5 players. The leader was a heroic looking young man who appeared to be a warrior. Their team appeared well-balanced with a warrior, tamer, wizard, fairy and an assassin.

"I think no one will offer more than us and we really need every chance to increase our chance of killing the BOSS before heading to the next village."

The bow holding man said as he kept looking at Alex.

"you have a deal"

Alex said. He thought 30 mana was not too many but barely enough for him to reach level 2. If he doesn't need to take long rests after every fight, he will progress faster and earn the spent money back.

After trading with the man, Alex thanked them and left hastily. The least he is in the spotlight, the better it is. The other party left and the man leading the team didn't think much about it.

Alex went straight to Snow feather and said " "Hello Snow Feather, I have completed the assignment."

Snow Feather: "Well done completing the task."

"Quest completed!"

"You get 10XP!"

"You get 20 copper!"

After submitting the task, a new exclamation mark appeared above the guide's head.

"Is there anything else I can help with?" Alex asked.

"Good that you asked. I just heard that to the south region of the village Apes seems to appear more frequently. Go and eliminate 10 of them.

"Quest Detected!"

Alex accepted it and begin his journey to the south side of the village.

It didnt take long for him to arrive. After looking around, he noticed many players fighting with apes, because he didn't want others to notice his ability. He went to an isolated corner where he was less outstanding and used insight on one of the apes.

"The ape appeared to be meatier than the boar, but it shouldn't be a big problem for me" 

Alex thought as he used stealth to sneak behind the enemy. Using ambush and sting followed by rush faint he dealt 30% of the enemy HP. The Ape attacking arm was slower than the boar charge, making it easier to dodge. 

After fighting around for a minute, the ape HP was finally in the executable range. 

"Devour" as he said

The similar strange mouth appeared above its head and swallowed it up. By now Alex got used to this eerie scene and only looked forward to seeing as it means him absorbing attributes points.

"You killed (Ape) and got 2 XP and 1 energy!"

By the end of the fight, Alex's mana points were almost zero. Normally, he would have to rest to recover, but now that he had mana potions it was easier.

Mana Potion (Level 1): Consume it and restore 100 Mana Points.

After drinking up the first mana potion, he selected another ape and engaged. Repeatedly fighting, it took him around 10 minutes to finish his quest requirements. After that, he decided to keep fighting as long as there are still mana potions.
