"No. We're almost married but she didn't want to get married and decided to maintain her single life. Anyway, that's a bit of a sad story. How about you, Jayme? How are you and Austin?"
Everyone in high school knew about their relationship but she didn't know that even in college knew their relationship. It wasn't secret since Austin was always at their school to pick her up.
"How did you know about that?"
"Well, Austin is a well-known son of a wealthy family and you two are very famous way back in high school."
"High school?"
"Yes, I attended the high school you are in."
She was stunned by what he said. It was the first time seeing a batchmate from high school in this big city. Ever since her family decided to move out, she didn't encounter any batchmate from high school except George.
So it was shocking for her that Xander was her batchmate in high school. She thought he was her batchmate in college.
"Small world, isn't it?" He muttered, scratching his nape
"Well, it is. Anyway, I'm still shocked that we're even batchmates in high school. What section were you in?" She asked, interested in his information.
"We're classmates. I'm not a loud person so it's natural for me to be invisible at school." He explained, laughing awkwardly.
"You are full of surprises, Xander. I didn't even recognize you way back in high school and even college." She said smiling.
"You are famous way back and have lots of friends so it's easy for me to recognize you, Jayme. Also, some rumors said that you were pregnant after graduation."
Pregnant, huh?
It wasn't a rumor but it wasn't also a secret. Her family decided to leave the town right after graduation to have a fresh start. Her father wanted them to forget about him.
From what sinister he did to her. And it was unforgivable.
"Well, it's not a secret or even a rumor, Xander. I was pregnant back then so my parents decided to have a fresh start and live far away from the town."
"Is it because of Austin?" He asked abruptly.
She just sighed and smiled, and didn't know how to reply. It was too personal when answering such a question even though they knew each other. For Jayme, they were still strangers.
"I-I'm sorry for asking A-austin!" He stuttered, apologetically.
She just giggled and shook her head as an answer. It wasn't upsetting when someone asked about him since they were hot a couple few years back.
So it was normal, wasn't it?
"You are still kind, Jayme. No wonder many men wanted to ask you out." He mumbled, fiddling his finger.
"I heard about that but I'm too focused on my studies so I didn't mind them. Anyway, it's a few years back and I guess, I have time to date some time. Since my son forced me to date." She explained.
"Well, your son is a smart kid. I wish I could meet him. Anyway, can we have a second date by this weekend?" He asked, giving himself the courage to finally ask her out.
"Of course." She replied.
Xander was ecstatic when Jayme agreed to have a second date. He couldn't believe that Jayme, the famous student in high school and college, would actually want to be with him.
For him, it was a miracle.
"Don't look at me like that, Xander. It's not a miracle to ask me out." She mumbled, laughing at him.
She didn't realize that Xander was a fine-looking good man. He had dark brown hair that compliments his brown eyes. He was tall enough to attract anyone and it would be easy for him to stand out because of his symmetrical face.
Overall, he was like a Greek God.
"I don't know why you are looking at me but thank you for accepting my offer to ask you out." He said, snapping her to reality.
She laughed awkwardly and didn't know how to react. She couldn't believe that he noticed her stare which was very embarrassing.
"Oh it's fine. Anyway, the speed date was finished. I guess we need to ge—"
Her words stopped when suddenly a phone rang from the other side. Xander grabbed his phone and saw his boss' number on the screen.
"I'm sorry but I have to answer this."
"It's fine. Take your time." She replied.
He stood and bowed to excuse himself before storming off the restaurant. George, on the other hand, was very interested in what happened. He sat in front of her, with a smile on his face.
"What was with you and Xander?" He asked teasingly.
She rolled her eyes, crossing her arms suspiciously. "I know you invited him to your 'speed date' event, Georgy."
"You noticed it? I thought you are stupid." He said snickering.
"Well now you know I'm not stupid, Georgy. Thank you for recognizing my stupidity!"
He laughed and signed the waiter to come closer to him. "Yes, Sir George?"
"Get me some Pinot Noir and a pineapple juice for my guest."
"Will do, Mr. George." The waiter said and bowed before leaving their table.
"You know, Xander liked you ever since in high school. He couldn't take a chance because Austin was around." He explained.
"So you know him all along?"
"Of course. He's been our classmate since high school and we became classmates in some minor subject in college. You just didn't notice him because you are very busy." He explained.
"And you also know that he likes me? That's why you invited him to the event?"
"No! I didn't. I just invited him for the event and surprisingly, he accepted it. Anyway, it's good to know that he likes you." He mumbled.
"Do you think so?"
"Of course. Also, he's a civil engineer so it'll be a big help for our company. Just enjoy your stay with him and maybe next time, you'll be his girlfriend." He explained and stood.
He grabbed the wine from the waiter and winked at her. "Don't worry about James. He's a smart kid." He said before he left.
Her friend was right, James was smart to understand the situation and thought that her son was worried about her happiness. Even though his father wasn't around, he became the man of the family.
"My son is very mature like his father." She said to herself and took a sip of the juice.
