Coming back to the sound of the perkiest girl on this earth was not what Athena had in mind for a roommate. But that was what she was greeted with. The woman Athena would be sharing a mansion with, Grace Mascot.
Her personality was as irritating as her name. She looked like a suburban housewife on account of her blond hair and pearls. Which was an absolute contrast to her bouncing around sorority girl personality?
"Hi! Athena Grey. I am Grace Mascot. I am your mansion mate I suppose. I am so excited to meet you. I know immediately that we are going to be best friends despite your appearances."
Athena was too tired to even respond to her comment. So, she just nodded and gave her a vague reply making her way to the suite. She looked around her completely decorated suite and decided that she liked what they had done to the place.
It had a Venetian theme much different from the Prussian theme Athena had at home. The room was painted a light shade of sky blue almost the color of a clear morning sky. It was a four-poster bed covered in white sheets. That matched perfectly with the wooden flooring. On the left side wall stood a proud fireplace above which were hung pictures of her family vacations to various places. The curtains were much like the ones in the living room laced pattern of gold and white.
The ensuite bathroom had a large bathtub that stood at the center facing the lake seen by the large glass wall. The stairway in front of the tub leads to the small basin.
Athena walked back to the bedroom and began to collect the pictures that were left for her on the bedroom bench. They were just a few of them but they were the ones that she cherished the most.
Turning on the music in her room she began to sway to 'Heaven' by Julia Michaels. The seductive lyrics and music encouraging her body to react. She changed out of her clothes to done on a loose shirt that belonged to her best friend, Gabriel. She could smell him on her and that made all the difference.
She had just begun to put up the pictures when she left it. The teasing brush of musk setting her skin on fire. She felt its eyes on her, seducing her, loving her. Athena she was being silly but she couldn't help herself. She wanted him to watch her.
To be hard for her. She wanted his undivided attention. This would have made sense if musk actually existed but this one moment she fooled herself into believing.
Athena stood at the entrance of the great grey building that was her school, as she read her schedule.

Upon glancing at the schedule Athena found some of the courses odd but then she did not think much of it. The school was odd and she was an heiress so who knows. She headed into her first class which was literary arts and took a seat beside a quite blonde that looked like the poster child for mean girls.
Her hair was long and perfectly curled at her shoulders; they had a few strands of brown between them almost like her hair could not pick a color for itself. Her eyes were the shade of dark brown that was accentuated by the frames of the glares she wore. She clutched her head and massaged it over and over again complaining in her soft voice how her she could not stand the light today. Athena found that to be an odd statement but did not comment.
The girl behind her was beautiful. Not in an overly exotic way as the girl with the headache but a normal sort of beautiful. A girl who was naturally beautiful. She had short pixie hair that stuck in all directions but her features hinted to a more Turkish origin. With beautiful caramel-colored skin and long eyelashes she raised her thin hand and extended to Athena.
"Hello. I am Freda Sanders."
Smiling politely Athena shook her hand and introduced herself.
"So are you a legacy or a scholarship?" Freda asked.
"Legacy. What about you?"
"Legacy. My father owns Capotex. What about you?"
"My father is dead. Both my parents are as a matter of fact. It's my uncle that runs our company. He is Frank Grey"
"Oh my god, you're The Athena Grey. I knew I recognized you, from somewhere. Your parent's death was such a tragedy. But, no one has seen you since their funeral when you were like five. Many said that you killed yourself."
"Well I am here seated in front of you so clearly I am alive. The hypes all made up because they could not photograph me, unlike all the heiresses. There is a strict court order forbidding it and I do not attend any of the 'it' events where people get photographed. I kind of hate that. It's so overrated."
The two women laughed together before they fell into complete silence as Loren Blake walked in. There was only one way to describe him. And the word was out worldly.
Athena felt Freda bend over as she whispered in her ear, "men like him should be illegal"
Athena hummed in agreement.
"Alright, so this is your first class. Let me start by saying welcome to Tuscany. So, I am Loren Blake. I'll be teaching you AP literature. As we all know everyone here is a legacy student. No one other than a legacy is allowed in this class so feel free to talk about everything. That being said let's start with the vampiral hierarchy today. I know most of you may already know everything about this topic but still."
Athena suddenly felt lost as everyone shared knowing looks to her clueless face.
"Let's start with the Lamia's or blue blood's. They are either born into or occasionally married into it. Each blue blood as the name suggests is a royal, but of these royal, you have twelve that form the royal council. They are the most elite twelve families known as the Dartans. Now, who here can tell me the names of the twelve Dartans?"
The mean girl raised her hand before she said, "The night family, obviously. They also are the most important of the twelve families as the queen is chosen from the first daughter of this family. The current interim Aliqua is Penelope Night. She was second to the throne but due to the untimely death of our previous Aliqua, she is in charge until her niece is old enough to ascend the throne. Then, we have the Grey family, currently; they have two princes, Christian and Daniel Grey both which are currently students at Tuscany. The brother inheriting Amira Grey's title as she left her legacy to them due to her lack of willingness to have her offspring. The Dragmes family with their daughter Veronica who recently ascended the throne at 25 years of age. The Dataniels, which is my family and I am the firstborn, Sandra Dataniel. The Blake's, who I believe are your family, Mr. Blake and you, are the middle prince. Your older brother being Wyatt and younger being Arsenio. I hear he recently joined Tuscany to protect a very important blue blood no one knows who it is though. The Calmerics with their son, Alessander. One extremely cute baby if you ask me. The Gregoris they yet do not have a descendant."
"Please speed it up without the side commentary on their lives." Loren Blake interrupted.
"Alright. The Rachetes, Dawsons, Zachemescos, Quintestals, and Sagregnas."
"Good."
"Aside from the Dartans, we have a total of 35 royal Lamia's. So, what's so special about Lamia? The biggest difference between Lamia and any other kind is that they can reproduce. Other than that they can eat normal human food. They can age up until the age of 22 after that they are of course immortal. Now, who can tell me how many children can a lamia have?"
"A lamia can have an infinite amount of children. But sexually reproduce only one twice. Unless you're a Night. But, then they are a minority and they have the smallest family tree. They never have a turned child." The Dataniel girl answered.
"Good. So, a Lamia can reproduce sexually or turn another. The turned offspring may turn out to be a Fecter, a Desquerate, or a Lamia. This is something only a Lamia can do. Finally, the ones married to a Dartan cannot include their own family tree under the Dartan line. Their children are the only ones belonging to that tree. A night name can only be passed from one female child to the next. And the ones married to a Lamia but themselves belong to any kind other than Lamia are known as Geptesis. And with that, we wrap up our discussion on Lamia's."
I am sorry I know this chapter had a lot technicality talk. Bear with it. The whole vampire hierarchy is sort of important.
PS pls comment on what you think about the book so far...
