Chapter 39 : Giving her options

"What are you thinking exactly?"

I stared at Kelly's uneasy expression. We were currently standing facing each other in the empty space beside the gymnasium, our usual meeting spot. She called me here as soon as the break time started.

The sunlight filtered through the gap of the tree leaves cast a shadow upon us. Kelly's petite figure looked even smaller now that she didn't dare to meet my eyes.

'I guessed she had a guilty conscience. I thought she was going to scold me for sure.'

"Why didn't you tell me any of this beforehand?" Kelly's voice shook a bit.

"Before that, don't you have something to tell me?"

She flinched upon hearing my question. She fiddled on her finger anxiously as she put on an uncomfortable expression. "W-what are you talking about?"

"I met Mr. Gilbert earlier, and he told me something about you," I said casually.

"S-so what? You believe what he said t-that easily?" Kelly stuttered.
