At five o'clock in the afternoon, Edward finished a meeting and hurried home.

"Has Mr. Carpenter been leaving work on time lately?" Annie asked Jerry carefully.

Jerry smiled and said, "Mr. Carpenter is a family man."

As a professional secretary, he said nothing more.

The truth was that Mrs. Carpenter was now five months pregnant with twins. If she hadn't insisted, Mr. Carpenter wouldn't have come to work at all.

They should be lucky that he was still willing to come.

As soon as Edward got home, he went straight to the study.

Sure enough, Susie was sitting at her desk, translating, with a bulging belly.

Susie's translating skills were unanimously recognized by the judges of the Anthea Bell French Translation Competition. She received a job offer from the publisher and translated several poetry collections.

"You're home." Susie heard the door open and looked up with a smile.
