Village of mortals

Half an hour later, tiny dots slowly started to emerge over the long distance. These dots started to transform into definite outlines of a structure.

"A village!" Nero said, a bit elated. This would be his first contact with human civilization since he arrived in this unknown world. Nero increased his speed, and in few minutes he arrived at the gates of the village.

The village was relatively small. It didn't have any exquisite structures, and the structures present were poorly constructed. Nero spread his consciousness around as he aimlessly walked down a street. To his surprise, he found out that the people in this village were mortals!

"So that's how it is. A village of mortals was not what I expected, but I guess this makes things easier for me. I'll just have to hide my Qi so no one will suspect a thing."

It was a bit late into the night, so after hiding his Qi, he could easily blend in… or so he thought.

"He doesn't seem to be from around here."

"His clothes are torn."

Nero thought he would blend in even after hiding his Qi, but he didn't think the villagers would still suspect that he wasn't from here. Nero casually threw a glance at those villagers. They turned out to be a group of beautiful young ladies that dressed seductively. Nero didn't need to bother with them and turned.

Although he couldn't accurately measure the time in this world, he could still tell that no ethical person would be out by that time, which means that those young ladies were probably special workers. Nero pretended to not notice their whispering and kept walking instead.

Nero continued to spread his consciousness, and the more he did, the more surprised he was to find out that this was actually a village of mortals. Apart from those young ladies, no one seemed to pay attention to Nero. Judging from his torn clothes and disheveled hair, one would think that he was just a low-life beggar who has had a lot to drink. Nero didn't care what they thought about him, his goal now was to gather as enough information as he could. This thought kept racing through his head, till he suddenly snapped out of it.

Nero suddenly frowned, "Someone's following me." He hadn't spent up to an hour in this village and he was already being followed… by whom? Nero didn't bother to look back. He leisurely walked into a dark and discreet area, pretending to not know that he was being followed.

"Hehe…my luck isn't so bad." A hoarse voice suddenly sounded out. A skinny man with a devilish grin emerged from the shadows. On his hand was a miniature knife which he waved around trying to intimidate Nero.

"Your clothes might be torn but I can see that the materials are high class. This means you might be someone of high status, which also means that you have some valuables on you. I must advise you now to take out everything you have and try not to do anything stupid, or else you'll pay in full the consequences of your actions." The skinny man said with his devilish grin, and the knife he waved around. Nero who was in front of him didn't move or say a word. When the skinny man saw Nero's indifferent reaction, he frowned and walked up to him.

"Did you not hear me!" He snapped. "If I repeat myself you'll only have yourself to blame." The skinny man casually tossed a threat. The closer he got to Nero the wider his grin got. It was like he wanted Nero to resist so he could kill him in the most gruesome way he could think of while carting away with Nero's belongings. He drew closer to Nero until they were only 10 feet apart.

At this point, Nero slightly turned his head revealing an eye that glistened with a bright green light. In this dark place, Nero's eyes were like two round emerald crystals that pierced through the layers of darkness. A wave of killing intent swept past the slender man. Beads of sweat started to form on his forehead, and in a matter of seconds, they turned into streams that trickled down his face.

At this point, the skinny man was in a miserable situation. That wave of killing intent directly invaded his body causing a bone-chilling cold to run amok in his body. His legs were too weak to move and his voice seemed to be caught in his throat. He could only stare with his eyes wide open as Nero gently walked up to him. No matter how things might go at this point, it wouldn't end well for him.

"You're nothing special, but you'll be useful to me." Nero coldly said as he walked up to the slender man. The skinny man tried to bite out a few words but they all caught in his throat. He suddenly fainted.

The killing intent that Nero just released wasn't anything worth mentioning but without him taking any action, it had pushed this mortal to his limits, rendering him unconscious. One had to know that the gap between a mortal and a martial artist at the Qi essence gathering Realm was as great as the heavens and the earth, much less someone like Nero. Nero quickly searched through the belongings of the slender man. The only thing on him was his slender miniature knife and a satchel.

"Gold coins?" When Nero lifted the satchel, he was a bit stunned that it contained gold coins. For mortals, it was normal to carry out transactions with gold or silver. Nero took the satchel and placed it in his robe and quickly left the dark alley. The slender man didn't have many items on him. He seemed to be a petty mugger who only knows how to terrorize the young delicate beauties that caught his eye.

Nero arrived at a fairly large inn. This inn was located almost in the middle of the village, at where seems to be a busy part of this village. At this late hour, Nero could see people who came to this inn hugging a few beauties in their arms as they came here to have a good night's adventure.
