Kwan sighed as he stared at the window of a bakery eyeing the blue one-layered cake that was put on display. His focus was then on his reflection and for a second he saw Eungoo hooking his arm around his shoulders but when he looked to his side there was no one there.
He felt sick to his stomach and with a heavy heart, he glanced at the cake one more time before leaving. He's always had this love-hate kind of thing with his birthday. He loved it since it's the day he gets to be the happiest and hates it since it's the day in which reminds him that he was all alone. Not completely alone though… he had Eungoo by his side. The younger promised him that he would always get to celebrate his birthday with him but right now, Eungoo was nowhere in sight.
He got on the bus and leaned on the railing refusing to sit down. He thought that he didn't need a seat and it kind of helped him in a way that he wouldn't fall asleep. He has a presentation in about half an hour and he needed to stay alert.
He plugged in his earphones and selected a song called Bulletproof Love by Pierce the Veil. It was a song that kept him going for as long as he could remember; he plays it whenever he was feeling down. He just wished that Eungoo could celebrate this day with him.
He got off the bus and jogged his way to his class. It wasn't his favorite but he had to deal with it. He just wished that his dear professor wouldn't disturb his presentation and turn it into a heated debate; the old man was homophobic and he assumed that Kwan's gay.
But ofcourse his prayers weren't answered since he just started around five minutes into his presentation he was already being thrown questions at. Being the competitive Kwan is, he answered each one with confidence and the professor wasn't having it.
Instead of presenting his case of how behavior affects the performance of students he was having a debate on hours end with the professor. This gave a few reactions in the class where some were thrilled that their professor couldn't call on the others to present while some were irritated by the nonsense that he was spouting and the rest were busy cramming their presentation in the room.
The only thing that was able to stop the two was the alarm going off indicating that class is over.
"Okay, class… prepare your presentation next meeting a quiz from the previous chapters."
A girl raised her hand and asked, "All seven chapters sir?"
"Ofcourse Ms. Choi." He said as a matter of fact. "Now get out of my class."
Kwan narrowed his eyes as well as the rest of the students. They were used to his behavior and they did their very best to look past that since they needed to graduate as well.
The poor boy began to pack up his files and laptop and murmured under his breath. The professor gave him one dirty look before rolling his eyes and left Kwan.
As soon as he packed up, he swung his bag over his shoulder and jogged out of class. He began humming to himself as he plugged back his earphones in his ear and replayed the song from earlier. He went to the only place he could feel relaxed… the rooftop.
He was thankful that it wasn't particularly very hot, very sunny. It was cloudy and windy, just how he liked it. He hummed and went to the corner and laid down using his bag as a head pillow and had his blazer on top of his eyes. He then ghosted his fingers on top of his phone screen until a perfect song began to play; it was a Billie Eilish song.
"Don't you know I'm no good for you…" He began to sing. He was feeling so much the song that he continued to sing.
Don't you know too much already?
I'll only hurt you if you let me
Call me friend but keep me closer (call me back)
And just when he was about to continue the next line someone did for him.
"And I'll call you when the party's over"
The familiar singing voice made him tear up and his heart ached. He didn't move from where he was lying but his lips quivered as he was very much close to tears.
The man smiled and kneeled down before deciding to straddle Kwan's hips and placed his hands beside Kwan's head, caging him. Kwan slowly began to turn into a crying mess as he hugged the figure that was ghosting above his body. The familiar man hugged him as well and both began to turn into a crying fit.
The blazer that was placed above his eyes slipped and revealed a cute crying Eungoo that began to wipe away his tears and smiled.
"You pabo (idiot)! You shouldn't be crying right now!"
This only made Kwan cry harder. Maybe the universe had pitied him and sent Eungoo in his dreams to cheer him up. He closed his eyes and hugged the younger tighter, too afraid that he'd let go or this was all a dream that he could wake up anytime sooner.
"I got you a cake."
Kwan was silent and continued to hug the other. Eungoo noticed that his hyung wasn't responding so he grabbed him by the hair and pulled his head back.
Kwan softly gasped and opened his eyes. He was a little surprised by Eungoo's choice of violence. It was at that moment he realized that he wasn't dreaming at all.
"EUNGOO!!!" Kwan finally yelled. He then began to say his name over and over and began cuddling his missing friend.
Eungoo laughed at how silly his hyung was being. He looked like this cute dog he saw online that was super excited to his owner for about a day. In their case, it has been a month already.
"Hyung!!! You're going to ruin the cake!!!" Eungoo screamed and tried to protect the blue cake with a few decorations of plants on it since he knows how much Kwan loves plants but never had any because of his busy schedule.
Kwan dramatically gasped and the sight and smiled. He then adorned the cute plant decorations and the lettering that said, 'Happy Birthday, Sucker!'. It also had a lit candle in the middle, but he clicked his tongue and noticed how oddly short it was.
Eungoo bit his lips as he tried his best to hold his laughter. He picked this small candle to purposely tease the older. Kwan was a small 5'4" and Eungoo was 6'1".
"Was this necessary?" Kwan asked with a raised brow at his dongsaeng.
"No~" He smiled. "But you got to make a wish now! Besides I have a present for you!"
Kwan nodded and closed his eyes carefully making his wish of hoping that he'd get to celebrate his birthdays with Eungo for the rest of his life.
While the older was busy making a wish, Eungoo held the cake with his two hands and began to sing a happy birthday in their native language. Kwan smiled wider and opened his eyes to blow the candle.
Eungoo squealed and placed down the cake before hugging his hyung once more. He hurriedly packed up the cake with the box that went with it.
"Come on!" He said, holding the box of cake with one hand and grabbing Kwan's hand with the other.
Kwan then grabbed his bag and blazer and ran past Eungoo. Their happiness came to a stop when a devil blocked the only exit.
Eungoo gasped when he saw Wonshik standing by the door with a smirk on his face and arms across his chest. He was found and the fact that this man could hurt his hyung scared him the most.
Kwan tensed as he knew what the smirk was for and it was for him. This is the moment where Wonshik could potentially tell Eungoo the truth of who he was; he wasn't ready for that. He then stood infront of Eungoo in a protective stance as he wasn't going to let Wonshik take his best friend away from him.
Wonshik on the other hand was amused as he saw them feeling a different kind of things but he saw the similarity… fear. One was afraid of the truth being spilled and taken away from him while the other feared to be taken back and had his friend killed. It excited him.
"When I say you run… you run…"
"what?" Eungoo asked in confusion.
"I'll meet you in the parking lot." And with that Kwan launched at Wonshik. Trying to distract him as his friend made a run for it.
Wonshik was amused so much that he let Eungoo go and engaged at Kwan in hand-to-hand combat. Seeing his precious maid like this turned him on even more.
As Eungoo ran downstairs with the cake in his hand he looked back and smiled a little when his friend was right behind him. Wonshik went easy on him since he loved the chase. He caught up with Kwan and grabbed him by the neck and slammed his face on the nearest wall.
When Eungoo finally got to the parking lot, he quickly went for the monster truck. Irene was swift enough to catch the man by the waist and tackled him down easily. She then cuffed him up and pinned him to the ground.
Eungo groaned from the pain and when his eyes focus on the main door of their university, he saw an unconscious Min Kwan over Wonshik's shoulder. This was the moment he knew that their happiness together was over.
