The Alpha

'I don't owe them an explanation, so why should i give one'.

"Why were you guys there?" I throw back my own question defiantly.

"You won't understand even if i told you" Zachary says with a sigh

"Neither will you, so just accept my thanks for helping me and leave it".

"Really?" Andre snorts unable to hold in his anger anymore

"Andre?" Zachary bellows in a commanding voice.

Andre seems to be shaking uncontrollably from his anger but why he is so angry ia what i can not fathom. He pushes his chair back violently and begins to leave, i feel pained and confused by his reaction, did something happen while they were coming to find me did someone get hurt?

"My mom" i blurt out as he storms past me, this makes him stop. He turns slowly on his heels and faces me.

I look down at my hands and back up at his beautiful green eyes.

"My mom" i say again not sure what exactly i am trying to tell him.

"I was there to remember... Something" the last part comes out as a whisper.

Zachary's POV

"That land belongs to us, this is a direct challenge an afront, letting them be will be same as accepting defeat"

"They'll only grow bolder, today the borderlands, tomorrow something else, someplace else. We have to act Alpha" i sit besides my father to the left, and to his right is his Beta, second in command of the whole pack. Beta Stewards is a man of few words but great wisdom and also Andres father. Besides me Andre is sitted silently accessing the situation like his father is also no doubt doing.

The heads of houses are gathered before us in the general meeting hall.

They want action and i don't blame them, Farrell and his group of rascals are getting bolder by the day.

It isn't hard to tell that they are not working alone, they are obviously being used by someone with a lot to gain if the moon pack falls into turmoil.

I look towards my father now and what i see disturbs me.

My father, the Alpha has never been weak, not as a man or as a leader.

He has always been fierce and hard, but of late he seems to have lost that fire in his eyes.

The only thing that seem to matter to him now is my mother, it is no wonder he is doing his best to hasten my mating and ascension ceremony.

"Something will be done about it" his Alpha voice booms throughout the hall

"Farrell and all who side with him will be dealt with accordingly, i assure you".

At this he stands and so do the almost 70 heads of houses, Beta Stewards, Andre and I also rise as my father leaves the hall.

We reconvene in the meeting room where my fathers cabinet meet.

My father seats at the head of the table and besides him to his right is his Mr Stewards, to his left his personal advisor Mr Smalls, and four other high ranking officials including head of security and chief of information management.i stand besides my father as i do not have a seat at this table yet.

The Alpha clears his throat, signalling the start of the meeting.

"Farrell is not an issue, his army is expanding but it is no match for ours. Give the order and he will be ....."

"Enough the Alpha commands, sitting up on his chair"

"I have had enough of all of you and your plotting and schemings. You think i know nothing and hear nothing" his hard voice sounds even more hostile and somehow resigned.

It isn't a secret that there are families who wish to over throw ours and take the leadership of the pack.

My father wanting to resign early most have provided them an opportunity.

"What do you wish to do?" Steward asks sounding just as hard and as resigned as my father.

"Prepare for Zacharys mating and ascension ceremony" He thunders.

The members look at themselves in shock.

"Alpha!"

"The boy is young and unprepared for such a responsibility"

"Alpha, this isn't right, what? With his human mate?"

They begin all at once to protest this sudden decision that even I find hard to comprehend.

My father turns to look at me, standing from his chair.

My body is frozen to a spot, what did my father just say?

He puts his hands on my shoulders and squeezes hard until i flinch from the pain.

"All of this is your responsibility now, you promised to prove me wrong... I'm counting on you to do that. Either way, the fate of our family and the entire pack now rests with you".

He pats me once on the back and begins to leave at the outrage of his entire cabinet.

He stops at the door and turns back to them,

"Oh before i forget,until the ceremony is completed Zachary will be acting as Alpha and chairman in my place, don't bother me with anything" and at that he exits the meeting room, leaving us all and most especially me stupefied.
