Chapter twenty

" your uncle is dead...my... my brother is dead" Mr Maxwell said trying to hold his tears back.

" wha...what... how? " Anthony had to stammer a little bit.

" he was" Mr Maxwell paused.

" speak daddy " Samuel said scared.

" shot. He was shot " Mr Maxwell finally told them. I should go now. Samuel take care of your younger once okay? we might come back late " he added before leaving the house.

Anthony didn't know what to say, he just sat down quietly. Looking at the ground. Tears flowing from his eyes.

Anthony's flashback

Here Anthony is only fourteen years old. Four years older than Kelvin. Who is three years older than Amanda. Samuel is two years older than Anthony.

" Uncle David, you said you where going to buy me a phone. Now we're is it? " Anthony who is sitting on his uncle's lap said.

" oh don't worry. I will buy that phone for you. But now I should buy for your big cousin Michael ( Uncle David's second child, who is four three years older than Anthony ) " Uncle David said pointing at Micheal.

" okay I... " Anthony got interrupt by...

" uncle David" Amanda called running to him.

" it's not fair, you should also buy a phone for me " Amanda cried out. Uncle David carried Amanda on his other lap.

" Anthony is your older brother " he said.

" mmmmm" she grumbled.

" Amanda baby " Mr Maxwell walked in and carried Amanda on his shoulder.

" don't worry Amanda. I will share the phone with you " Anthony said holding Amanda's feet.

" no don't worry. You are my big brother, so you can use your phone. And when I'm fourteen, Uncle will by me the latest phone " Amanda smiled. Everybody laughed out.

" I promise " Uncle David said then continued laughing.

" how... how... how are we going to break this news to Kelvin. Talk less of Amanda " Anthony cried out. Samuel just tap at his back.

Amanda now, is in class studying English. Amanda isn't focused because she's so happy about the show on the next day.

As soon as she got to her room, she called her mother. She didn't pick the call, so she decided to call Samuel.

Amanda's home

" Amanda's calling " Samuel said looking at his phone. Both Anthony and Kelvin was sitting beside him.

" we can't tell her " Anthony said.

" no, we have to " Kelvin said looking at Samuel. Samuel picked the call then decided to pretend at first.

" hey Aman"

" oh Samuel, what took you so long to pick the call? " Amanda asked still excited.

" I... I wasss in... the toilet " he lied.

" okay hope you flushed it? because you guys don't like flushing the toilet " Amanda said then Samuel laughed.

" put it on speaker " Kelvin whispered. Samuel then turned it on speaker.

" okay, I called to tell you guys that my show is tomorrow. I'm so happy "

" you've done like four shows before this one. Why are you acting like this is your first one? " Samuel asked.

" this one is Romeo and Juliet. And I'm Juliet " she said pointing at herself.

" wow, I'm so happy for my little sister " he smiled

" hey why is your voice like that? " Amanda asked worried.

" like how? "

" sad? "

" no. Why will I be sad? "

" I don't know. But you are sad. Tell me what's going on" she asked

" hey. When you are done with your show, I will tell you. okay? "

" okay" she replied.

" you should cut the call now. You have to practice your line and I have things to do" bye" he added.

" bye" she said then cut the call.

" you did not tell her because she is excited about the show and you don't want to ruin it for her" Rume said while walking in. " you are a good brother " he said tapping Samuels shoulder.

Amanda's room

" Samuels acting strange " Amanda thought to herself.

" Amanda how far? wetin dey sup?" Praise asked walking to her direction.

" it's Samuel. He's not telling me something. He's keeping something from me " Amanda replied.

" you shouldn't worry. Maybe his decision for not knowing is good. According to him. You know he never keep anything from you" Praise said.

" you are right " Amanda smiled.

the next day around six in the evening

Praise and Kelly left for the show two hours after Amanda had left. They got there and found the boys there. Justin was waving at Kelly.

They did the show for three hours. And after the show, everyone left. Praise, Kelly, and the three boys waited outside for Amanda. Then she finally came out.

" Amanda, the show was nice. I cried when you... I mean Juliet died. It was so painful " Praise said holding both sides of Amanda's shoulder.

" yeah. But I did not cry" Collins said. They all kept on talking, the boys made sure the girls were inside the keke, before they entered their own.

When Amanda got home, she called Samuel.

" hey, I'm done with the show" Amanda said on the phone.

" how was it? " he asked trying to avoid telling her.

" don't change the topic " she yelled.

" okay " .Samuel took a deep breath then...

" Uncle David is dead " Samuel said. Amanda was in shock, that her phone fell with her eyes opened wide.
