"Bye Grandpa!" The child chirped, her voice ringing through the quiet room. She looked up at the figure sitting in the armchair, hoping for some kind of response, but all she received was a nod.
The child didn't miss a beat as she received the nod from her grandpa. With a cheerful skip in her step, she grabbed her backpack and made her way to the door.
As the child's footsteps slowly faded away, the old man slowly rose from the armchair, his movements stiff and deliberate. Reaching the door to her room, he opened the door and stepped inside.
For a moment, he simply stood there, taking in the surroundings of her room. His gaze fell upon the bookshelf, which the spines of the books were arranged in a series of dots and dashes, like morse code.
As the old man stood there, trying to remember the meaning of those morse code hidden message that spelled out "repent," his thoughts were suddenly interrupted by a flood of memories from his own past.
He remembered the countless lives he had taken as the leader of a powerful mafia organization. His hands were stained with the blood of so many, and the weight of his sins was heavy on his soul.
The old man closed his eyes, trying to push the memories of his past life as a mafia boss aside. He knew he couldn't change what he had done, and he didn't regret it. But he also knew that he had made a promise to his deceased son, and he intended to keep it.
A promise to his son on his deathbed - a promise to keep her only remaining family safe and to give his granddaughter a life free from the dangers and violence that had consumed his son past. He couldn't change the mistakes he had made, but he could ensure that the same fate will happen again.
And so, on that fateful day, the old man made a decision. He would create a plan to step away from his life of crime and create a better future for his granddaughter.
Which he worked tirelessly to create a better future for his family, the old man never forgot the lessons he had learned from his past. Knowing that the road ahead would be long and treacherous, but he was willing to do whatever it took to ensure that his granddaughter was safe and free from the dangers that had once plagued his own life.
In the end, the old man's plan proved successful, and he was able to step away from his life of crime and create a better future for his family. It was a hard-fought victory that took 2 years, but it was one that he was proud of, knowing that he had kept his promise to his son and ensured a better life for the only family he knows.
As the old man opened his eyes, relief washed over him as the painful memories of his past began to fade away. However, his moment of peace was short-lived as a sharp pain in his chest suddenly took hold, leaving him gasping for air that he search for something to hold tightly.
For a moment, the old man was unsure if he would live to see another day, his life that almost be taken by the grim reaper. But refusing to give up, fighting through the pain as he struggled to catch his breath.
Reasoning that he still have to see her granddaughter be happy with his life and have her own family that will only will he be peaceful to die.
With each passing moment, the pain slowly began to subside, and the old man found himself able to breathe more easily. Though he knew that his health was fragile and that his time in this world was limited, he refused to let it hold him back.
After the sudden pain in his chest, the old man stumbled towards the bed, feeling weak and vulnerable. He collapsed onto the soft mattress, his heart racing as he tried to catch his breath.
For a few moments, he lay there, his eyes closed as he focused on slowing his breathing and calming his racing heart. As he drifted into a state of relaxation, he didn't even realize when he had fallen asleep.
"Grandpa!" The sound of his granddaughter's voice stirred him from his slumber, and he slowly opened his eyes.
As he sat up on the bed, he looked at his granddaughter Lily, who had just run into the room. Concerned, he asked, "Lily, what's the matter?".
"Grandpa, did you see the strange screen that popped up during class?" Lily asked, her eyes wide with curiosity. She couldn't believe what she had witnessed earlier - a transparent screen that only she could see, despite being in a classroom filled with other students who were in the same situation.
Even the teachers had asked if they too had seen the screen that had popped up, which further proved that everyone in the classroom had one. The phenomenon was puzzling, and no one seemed to know what it meant or why it had appeared.
Taking a moment he just answered her granddaughter question "No? Why?"
"Can you describe in detail the appearance of the screen that popped up suddenly, Lily?" he asked his granddaughter, feeling a sense of deja vu wash over him.
"Grandpa, it was like a transparent window that only I could see. It had some kind of text on it, but it disappeared before I could read it," Lily explained, looking at her grandfather with a mix of curiosity and concern.
The old man listened intently, feeling a sense of familiarity wash over him. It was as if he had read about something like this before, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it. He made a mental note to look into it further and see if he could figure out what was going on.
