Rebecca watched her leave without saying nothing, she just stood there without saying anything, she feels so tipsy just standing there, she felt so miserable hearing her sister say all those words. she think she doesn't understand not knowing how much she was trying to stay sane all these time.
Rebecca turned and made her way to her room, without caring for a bath, she lay down on the bed and slept off.
Rebecca stood at the balcony the next morning and thought about all her sister had told her, she had been selfish while trying to stay sane.
She gulped down the last liquid in her glass and poured herself another drink while smoking, it was just the only thing that still keep her sane and happy.
She was planning to leave by next week and hopes everything goes smoothly the way she had plan, she was not going to be here to cause pain to people that she love and care about, the only thing to do now is to escape from all of this.
She sipped her drink and thought about Andrew again.
She just wanted to forget the encounter with him because it brought so much memory back, the painful and the good part.
She blew out the smoke from her cigarette and wonder what Sunny might have told Andrew.
she tried not to think about it but realized that she want some connected with her daughter even if she don't get to meet her and Andrew is the only option here, he was the only who could tell her more that she wanted to know.
She knows it sounds crazy but that's the only way she would have a little connection with her daughter, maybe, just maybe she could pay Andrew a visit just to have more knowledge on how and why her daughter was invited to his house.
She realized that she actually wanted to meet up with him, it wouldn't be that bad, she just have to be careful not to step on old wound.
She sighed and made her way downstairs she didn't want to give it a second thought because she knows very well that she would change her mind if she hesitate.
"Dad" Andrew turned to see his son staring at him "HI son, how are you doing? without responding Josh went over and sat on the long stool while facing his father "Hey. boy tell me what's wrong?
"Have you talked to mum" he stared at him sadly if course he can already tell. "Not yet Josh but soon". Andrew watched him nod without saying a word. "Tell me how's Sunny".
"Ummm, haven't seen her in weeks and I promised not to discuss or involved myself in her personal life" Josh shrugged. They was silence for a while. "Are you happy? Andrew watched his son blank face.
"Are you happy that's she's living in a lie" He shrugged again.
"What do you want me to say, as far as I can see this Tara has been good to her, very good to the extent age consider her as her real mother.....
if she was or had been maltreating her in any way I don't think Sunny would loved and value her so much than her real mother.
Andrew shook his head sadly "Is that what you believe" "No, it what I saw, maybe ....we should just leave her to love who ever she wanted to". With this Josh turned and walked out.
Leaving his father to stared at the door, Josh signed and poured himself a whiskey, he couldn't stop thinking about the night he saw her sitting in the cold.
He couldn't believe that after all those years that she was the one sitting out here in the cold, he had felt like crying his eyes out and hugging her tightly but immediately she turned to him something in him freezed.
He just stood there and tried his best to control his emotions all through the evening he had forced himself to act okay and not so overwhelmed.
He remembered the first month he been away from her, he felt mad at himself, angry, useless and had to force himself the do his job even though he was no mentally stable at that time.
He had wanted to be there for her at the toughest time of her life but she had pushed him far away for her.
He gulped down his whiskey and remember how he promised himself never to forgive her but he found out that he couldn't be angry on her for so long.
After what seems like minutes, he heard the door bell and wondered who was it, dropping his glass on the desk and went to open the door.
"Becca" he called in shock, she was the last person he expected to be here "Ummm, I didn't know you'll come..... ". "I'm I interrupting something" Becca asked with a little smile on her face
"No, no, that's not what I meant, I'm Just surprise.... that's all" She nodded abd watched him stared at him still in shock.
"Ummm, sorry, come in, he made way for her to enter to the penthouse "I'm sorry I didn't call, it was just kind....of urgent, I thought I wanted to see you badly" Sunny said looking apologitical at him.
"It fine, I'm glad you came" Andrew smiled at her and fought the urge again to stay away, she was like a magnet pulling him closely, he turned away and made straight his way to the living room while Rebecca followed.
"Would you like a drink? He asked beckoning her to sit "Sure, I can use something strong please".
Andrew nod and went to pour a glass leaving her for the moment to look around and found that their was nothing personal here that indicate that couples live here that reminds her that he had mentioned of vacation.
But at that too, she looked around at the refined art and modern picture of artists, Sunny would have loved those pictures if she had been here.
She looked up in time to see Andrew making his way toward her with glasses filled with wine. "You drink whiskey" it wasn't a question as he hand het the wine.
"Thanks" Rebecca took the glass and sip the drink slowly and allowing herself to settle a bit "The house is classy" she complimented looking out of the glass window that shows the other side of the verandah.
"Figured it was the best place to spend my leave...." He watched her as she slowly sip her drink and wondered why he had been careful not to mention his family been here with him and of course he made his son promise get this done with before calling his mother.
"I have been wondering.....". "About Sunny? Andrew asked, of course he knows that's the reason she as here.
"Yeah, Rebecca nodded. And she gulped down her drink, she noticed that this past weeks that she was drinking more than she was working.
"I will be leaving in a week time and...." She exhale Knowing very well that she saying this would only make her vulnerable, she looked up and found that he was still watching her.
"I want to know why she was here and what you guys talked about, I just want to have some sort of connection with her since she had severed all connections with me, which I guess you had already know about"
She said this while keeping a straight face and tried as much as she can not to show any emotions.
Andrew refilled their drink before trying the speak. "She was here because I invited her to when I found out that.....he was my son's friend....".
"Son" Rebecca repeat more like a whisper. "Yeah, my step son". "They both met at inter school drawing competition" Rebecca nodded and tried to get that in.
"I'm sorry but where's your wife? She didn't know why she had asked but she was curious, no woman would be happy to have her husband ex girlfriend in her home, she watched Andrew paused for a moment as if caught off guard "She's out for some days" he answered knowing the last thing he wanted to ever disclose to her was the drift between him and his wife.
Rebecca nodded and stared at the wine glass in her hand "I tried to tell her that she have the best mother but I think the people she considered her parents has clouded her head with lies...I invited her over because it been so long and seeing her brought back the most happiest moment ever but it turns out that she didn't know her mother, the woman who had sacrifice a lot for her, she left her in anger, Becca, she didn't want to hear about you or even talk"
Rebecca tried to remain sane and keep her emotions in check as he speaks "Where were you for the past ten years Becca? Andrew asked wanting to know the full details even though he felt somehow guilty from asking since she kept so much away from her, he knows she had mention being the manger of some construction company but he wanted her to tell him what happened the last ten years she been away from her daughter.
Rebecca spend the whole time drinking because this could only help her hold herself together, she waited for awhile knowing that Andrew was patiently waiting for her reply "What do you want to hear? she finally asked after making him to wait "I know you Becca, you would never leave your daughter for anything, never"
"But I did and now I'm a bad mother for that" she smiled because that's probably what he might be thinking "You're not a bad mother Becca, Sunny clearly misunderstood everything" "That's what you think right? this time she laughed, remembering all that her daughter had told her that day "Not just what I think, it is the truth and you also know that" Rebecca drop had glass deciding that she had enough before she goes home drunk like last night.
"The only thing Sunny needs right now is the truth, she needs someone who would make her realize that she had been living a lie all her life" "I don't think that what she need" Rebecca shook her head in a sad smile "She had already made her decision and nothing you would say would make her change her mind"
"Is that the reason you're leaving? "I'm leaving because theirs nothing here for me again" "And you that's the best decision to make" "I know that it is the best decision to make, I left all while thinking only about myself and now everything had blacked out on me and I have no one to blame than myself and I'm okay by that you don't have to pity me or anything"
"I'm not pitying you Becca, I'm concerned" This made her to shrugged "Concerned? why would you be? And of course that's not concern, that's pity, you don't have to anymore, just stop it" "Why do you think I'm pitying you? "Because that what exactly you're doing now, pretending that you care so much while the truth is that all you feels toward is pity and nothing else"
"You can't say that because it isn't the truth, all those years that I had spent with you is because I love you, I had loved you so much, those feeling aren't pity, I'm telling you"
"Yeah, that's right" she nodded sadly not believing a bit of what he had said "Theirs no reason to bring this up again, it is the past right?
"No, we have a every right to bring it up, we should talk about it" Rebecca sniffed and stared questionable at him. "I don't think theirs anything worth talking about".
"For goodness sake Rebecca, everything is worth talking about....I don't know about you but for past years I haven't moved on, I haven't stopped thinking about you......
He scoffed dragging his hands through his hair. "I don't know if you understand....he shook his head but maybe if we sit down and talk things through....just give me one last time to get over you things would be better I think"
Rebecca sat stunned not knowing exactly what to say, she didn't expect this.....but at the same time she couldn't stop feeling guilty since he met him maybe this was it, one last time to settle all this.
"Why haven't you moved on, it been ten years since....." She stopped and looked toward Andrew who had his back to her. "It been ten years.....
"Very long right, to forget those memories, to forget you??? He asked rehetorical,She didn't say a word but she felt the sting of his words peircing deeply in her chest.
But she wasn't going to let her emotions come in the way "Yeah, you should have moved on Andrew" she found herself saying.
"I know that right? Did you know how much I tried, I got married and was blessed with a wonderful stepson I did everything but.....it just isn't possible.....to put you away from my mind..... Why?
Finally, Andrew turned to her and waited for her reply "Why what? "Why did you lock down every one out, I was there to help you, I wanted them help then but .....
"I don't need anyone's helping and you asked why right? Here is the answer, I decided to free you, you had done your enough for me and it had been okay....you were just pitying me because I was a single mother maybe .....
That's why! That's the reason Andrew, you have to move on, if you keep thinking about this previous episode of our life it would do nothing but pull you down hard"
Andrew nodded as he picked the glass of whiskey up and drank the content. "How are you then ....all this time, working?
"Yeah working because that's only left for me to do" She stood up and walk towards him and they both stared at outside the window.
"It beautiful" Andrews nodded in agreement as he kept his eyes focus on the tiny country light outside the penthouse. "Yeah, it is".
"I think it's time to sort things out with your wife" Andrew turned in shock and watched her. "How....who told you? She Just looked around with a sad smile.
"No one would come for a break without his wife, it seems out of order, I'm sorry for all those years but I don't regret making those previous decision, it was worth it".
"Yeah right, Of course". He turned away from her and tried his best to process everything and just then he felt her hand on his, it wasn't the usual spark but it was warm and welcoming.
"It fine, your family needs you". "Sunny need you here also, you know that". "I just wish you're right.....
