Liliana's pov
"We own a hospital." I smile as Jackson and I walk hand and hand through the hallway looking at the changes that have been made to the hospital.
"I know, we have for several weeks now." He says.
"I know, but today's the big day. The E.R.s opening back up." I say excitedly.
"I know, I can't wait." He smiles "You know what else I can't wait for?" He asks.
"What?" I ask.
"Our wedding." He smiles.
"I know, it's only a week away now, which reminds me that you need to do one last fitting for your suit and we need to make sure we have the final head count and..." I say before Jackson stops me.
"Baby, don't worry everything is taken care of. You know my mom is always one step ahead of us anyways. She's not going to let us forget anything."
"Believe me, I know." I laugh as we walk over to the front desk.
"Hey guys. What's up with the sheet?" Derek asks pointing at a sheet hanging over the logo on the wall.
"I thought you guys put it there for some kind of unveiling." Jackson says.
"No, we didn't." I say shaking my head.
"Well, somebody should say a few words, right? I mean it's unlucky not to." Richard says.
"Hey. Why are you guys staring at the wall?" Arizona asks as her and Callie walk over to the front desk.
"Oh, we're waiting for the big unveiling." Cristina says.
"Mm, well you should be staring at my wife." She says causing us to all look over at Arizona.
"New haircut?" Meredith asks.
"No, it's her leg. She's wearing high heels." Callie says spinning Arizona around so we can see. "Because she has a sexy high heel leg that makes her ass go pow." Callie smiles.
"Hey." Meredith smiles.
"Wow." We all say in unison, except for the guys who I'm pretty sure were scared they'd get in trouble if they said something.
"Baby got back." I joke making everyone laugh.
"Mm-hmm. Come on guys. You can comment too, you have permission. It's the one time in your life you can say it and not be gross." Callie says.
"You better not, Avery." I say to Jackson, causing Jackson to stay silent.
"Well I think it's a fine gluteal." Richard says.
"Oh no. Yeah, let's just do the unveiling." Arizona says.
"Um guys, I think the painters actually just left that there." Jackson says before walking over and pulling the sheet down, unveiling the new logo as we all stare at it. "Let's get back to work, end of speech." Jackson says.
"Aye, aye captain." I smirk before going to check in on my patients and being paged by Hunt to the O.R. a short while later on a girl that got into a A.T.V. crash.
"You have to take that much off?" Shane asks as I remove a piece of bone flap.
"Yeah, I need the exposure." I explain"Oh, there's more damage than we could see on the C.T. It's been a few hours. I'd really like to get an update to the father." I say.
"Okay, but just so you know, he's kind of a big, angry maniac." Shane says.
"You can handle it."
"Of course. I'll just make sure security's close by."
"Look Ross. Dr. Shepherd tells me this is an arena in which you excel. Just start with the positive news, be confident, and don't make any promises you can't keep. You're my voice out there." I say as I operate.
"I'll channel you. It'll be fine." He says.
"Yes, it will be." I say shaking my head in agreement.
"I'm Liliana Garcia, it's a beautiful day to save lives." He says imitating my voice making me glare at him
"I'll channel you in my voice."
"Yeah, you do that." I say before he walks out and I continue operating and eventually Shane returns.
"You're cutting right into her frontal lobe." Shane says loudly as I operate.
"Calm down, Ross. I know what I'm doing." I say.
"Her whole personality could be affected. Her memory could be gone and that man out there is gonna kill me." He says.
"Dr. Ross you need to relax. You're over thinking and your mind is going to the worst possibilities. If you want to be a successful surgeon you can't do that. You need to stay calm." I say continuing to operate as I speak.
"Okay." He sighs.
"Right now I am about to remove a hematoma from Broca's area and if I'm not careful, she'll never speak again. There is a lot to be afraid of. Patients will be afraid. Parents will be afraid and the only way to get through it is for you to stay calm, that's something Dr. Shepherd taught me." I say.
"The brains swelling." Shane says as the monitors begin to go off.
"What are we going to do about that?" I ask.
"We're gonna, we're gonna give her more mannitol."
"Good." I say as we continue to operate until we finally finish.
"You ready?" I ask.
"Good news first. Stay calm. Do we really have to do this?" Shane asks.
"Yes we do, we've got this. Now come on." I say as we walk over to our patients dad who's pacing around the waiting area.
"What took you so long?" The dad asks Shane angrily.
"Mr. Kramer, the good news is your daughter's alive, until she wakes up..." Shane begins to say
"No, no, no,no. Don't, don't, don't, don't you do that." The dad says pushing Ross against the wall, and I have to use all my strength to push him off of him.
"Listen, your daughter is alive, you hear me." I yell pushing him against the wall "Listen to me, your daughter is alive, she's alive and we hope she's gonna wake up, but we don't know what's going to happen. Okay? Her vitals are stable, but it doesn't do you or her any good to be afraid of what we don't know. Let's get you cleaned up and you can go see her, okay?" I say.
"She always wears a helmet, she... I make sure of it." He says as he begins to cry.
"I know." I say putting my hand on his shoulder reassuringly.
"I always." He sobs laying his head on my shoulder.
"I know." I say hugging him as he cries. I sit with him in the waiting area until he calms down, before taking him to his daughter room to see her.
"What happened to staying calm?" Shane asks when I walk to the front desk handing him the patient's chart.
"Yeah, well that never would've worked with a guy like this. Sometimes you just got to shake the hell out of them and be the bad guy at first then comfort them once they settle down." I say.
"Okay." Shane nods.
"Hey, you almost ready?" Jackson asks walking over to me.
"Yeah, I just need to go get dressed." I say "Page me with updates." I tell Shane before I walk away.
Today was a long day, but in the end my patient made it.
