Everyone already knew what these corpses, once friends of theirs, had become.
"Zombies."
Moving corpses. There were dozens of them. However, there was a good side to all of this, zombies were pretty easy to kill. Thus, they will be no trouble for the soldiers to handle, and with that the knight could focus on the girl.
The blue glowing veins on the zombie's body pulsed as they stood idly waiting for their master's command. The silver haired girl majestically pointed her finger forward as she gave an order.
"Feast on the foot soldiers. But, leave some for me."
The soldiers tensed instantly the moment they heard that, and the zombies charged towards them with no relent — as mindless as they were.
"Men! Deal with the zombies, we two will take that woman down!"
Heiness loudly announced and the two knights shot forward, leaving the zombies to the soldiers.
The soldiers steeled themselves and when the dead arrived, they swung their swords and thrust their spears. Zombies were one of the lowest of all undead beings, weak and slow, one could even kill them with a wooden plank. And thus, the soldiers were confident in their fight against these ones.
However, things didn't happen as they quite expected. One man swung his sword leaving a white arc in the air, but the monster raised its arm and intercepted his blade. The man's eyes went wide in shock, he should have easily cleaved through the arm. But, his blade stopped halfway as though the bone stopped it in its momentum.
Seeing this, the soldier immediately leaped back with his sword in hand. Fortunately, these zombies were still slower than humans. However, they were weird. No, they were different somehow. Normally, zombies wouldn't have those bluish veins around them, but they still seemed to appear like any typical zombie, and thus they assumed they were as weak as normal ones.
But because of that, they were all dumbfounded by the robust bodies of the moving corpses.
"On your back!"
He heard a voice from behind him and then saw a friend of his charge forward with his spear pointed towards the zombie, impaling it on the chest. With an opportunity presenting itself, he rushed forward as the zombie was restrained, and swung his sword with all his strength through its neck.
The bone was a pain to get through, but in the end, he succeeded and decapitated the monster. He heaved a relief sigh before another zombie pounced at him and pinned him to the ground.
"Wha—"
Before him, he saw the husky face of a friend, but was fiercely trying to devour him. He lifted his sword and tried to get up, however, he couldn't. The monster was surprisingly stronger than him. Thus he tried to strike it with his sword, but the zombie already had its mouth close to his neck.
Unable to do anything, the soldier felt horrendous pain as he felt his frontal neck was being ripped up by the teeth of his once friend. Flesh was chewed and blood spewed.
The soldier thought of his family as his life faded away. His beautiful wife with short hair, and his three year old daughter's cute smile. He felt fear and desperation. He didn't want to die.
However, there was no miracle to save him, apparent as the life in his eyes vanished while the monster devoured his flesh.
The one who wielded the spear wasn't able to help when a zombie appeared in front of him. These zombies were different, but they were still unable to sprint and could only do quick strides, therefore, he wasn't able to get caught easily.
He thrust his spear and successfully pierced the zombie to the chest, which immobilized it for just a moment. However, the zombie gazed at him and continued to step forward. This shook the soldier to the core and he tried to push it forward.
However as he did, he sensed something behind him. Before he could react, he felt teeth piercing through his neck. Pain stormed his senses.
"Aaaah! No!" he cried.
Before he knew it, he had let go of the spear, and thus sent what he was restraining free to rush towards him.
And the same thing essentially happened to the rest of the soldiers. Being overwhelmed by the strength of the monsters, their numbers dwindled and thus was slowly overrun. The monsters feast on their flesh, their kidneys, heart, throat, intestines, and so on.
However, multiple soldiers were only restrained, which defeated all common sense they all knew. The supposed to be monsters which hunger for flesh were merely restraining them. Some pinned them down, some hugged them. There might have been hope that they could escape, however, it was shattered by the firm and strong grasps of the monsters.
