Kick back

Part 1

POV: Reina

The car was silent, only the ambient noise of the engine running and tires rolling over rough asphalt. It wasn't the case perhaps 30 minutes ago we went down kicking and screaming. Now we're here, away from the suburban landscape, now in tall fields and the widing road ahead and in a piss poor car.

I sat in the middle backseat, Panam on the far right and I have the misfortune of sitting next to a smelly seemingly malnourished hobo with sunken eyes. Then the other two at the front, the one driving the only person that actually has a passable business suit on, and the other that gave brief glance towards me over his hand on his nose nursing the blood that pour from it with a tissue. It gave me a small amount of satisfaction knowing that it was the crown of my skull against his long nose that produced such injuries. It should be gratitude in his eyes, I gave him a mocking grin and he narrowed his eyes as he went back to to looking at the road with a long sigh.

"This is tense, huh?" The man in the front passenger seat sighed too and said light heatedly looking at the rear mirror with a wide smile that didn't reach his eyes as he continued, "Listen lovies, we're gon' take you twos' to someone just for a day or two ya hear. Ain't gonna hurt you now, y'know... just gotta send a message." He lean his head to the side eyes still on the road, "Just business, you know about that right princess?"

That's when I felt it, a feeling I had forgotten and only started to realize as it's intensity rose and boiled through my eyes. It was a something I buried countless of times for it only to erode to the surface once again, and I hated it. It brought with it fear, anxiety, anger and a deeper sadness and i felt it stip me of rational though.

"Shut. Up. Your wrought-lipped-lamprey!" I barked brazenly with another insult I barely remember.

The talkative man was silent now as I continued uninhibited, "Just you, wait! When MY father finds out about this, he'll send my send the police to give you bunch an over due thrashing! when you get arrested I'll make sure you'll be sent to the be torturee before your execu-"

A blow from a tightly clenched met my face, a numbing pain formed around my nose .

I held my face as coiled in over myself burying my face in my lap, a soft chuckle rang besides. The same hand that struck me took a handful of my hair pulling it forcing a painful groan as I faced the man who lifted homself from the passenger seat. He sniffed as the blood from his nose slowly leaked.

He closely examined my nose intently with a breathey sigh, "Huh, close enough."

"Don't touch her!" Those words roared from Panam as she tried moving to me, but forced back to her seat with a hand around her neck of the man beside me reaching over me silently shaking his head.

"Oi, oi, oi. What's with the scary face, I'm just getting back at her from last time." He gave a sickening smile at Panam, with another deep sniff from him.

"Hey now. Hey, calm down you roudy kids. Can you all behave for like thirty minutes yeah? Jeeze..." The driver interjected now sounding agitated as he mumbled more under his voice.

As the the man with a bloody nose leaned in to whispered in my ear some threats, and as he slowly pulled back to face me hitting checking to see if his words were understood. I spat a mouthful of bloody saliva stuck to his eye, recoiling back to his seat in gritted curses.

The man beside me now turned his attention to me, he grabbed my collar with one hand and covered my mouth with the other forcing my head into my lap. Leaving Panam unattended allowed herself shift and sink a heel strike into his jaw. A loud thud rang as he whipped his neck left into the window leaving a greasy stamp of his face on it.

Now staggered briefly in his seat, Panam left her seat as she leaped in between the front seats pulling the hand break as the driver protested.

The tires screached to a sudden halt amd threw everything inside it forward, then silence followed by a sound of shuffling then...

CLICK

Turning my attention to the front, the man with a bloodied nose levelled a gun to Panam's face, she froze and her eyes widened in fear. Yanked back to her seat by the man now massaging his jaw.

The suited man fixing his hair before calmly enquired, "Why won't you seat and be quiet?" Then burst into anger, "IF ANY OF YOU LITTLE TURDS DO ANYTHING OTHER THAN THAT! I SWEAR I'LL BLOW YOUR BLOODY BRAINS OUT!" He waved the gun around, spit and blood flying as he barked.

CHOOM... CHOOM...

The blaring sound reverberated into the car ringing into our ears.

It was a train charging through it's tracks and incidentally we were in it's path.

"AYE!! WAKE UP!"

The man shouted at the man in the suit slumped over the steering wheel, and quickly grew impatient grabbed the man's head lifting it. He cursed under his breath letting go as the man lifelessly fell to the side onto the window.

CHOOM

As the train draws closer like a rolling thunder and showed no signs of stopping. The air was thick and tense filled with fearful anticipation.

"Oh, no. No. No. No!!"

He shouted in distress, throwing the body over to his seat climbing into the driver seat stomping on the gas pedal. The car wheels screeched turning in place. He then bullied the handbreak down with a mechanical snap, as the lever flew down effortlessly and clearly detached and clearly broken with a still locked brakes.

Panam was already against the door trying to open it, and the man beside me did the same begging a screaming for the man infront stuck in his own spiraling panick to unlock the door. He took his gun he dropped on the passenger car seat door and fired 3 shot through the window. Impatient he forced himself through the gap of glass that tore, dug and ripped open long gashing thin wounds as he groaned.

I looked out the window and saw the train, even if he got out or we drove now it would be too late now. Only the rough pointed steel brace covered my view, it's massive metal frame loomed over.

I stared at Panam, her wide-eyed expression mirrored my own. I felt helpless and scared, I missed my dad so much. I took a deep breathe in, a boom of rending metal and splintering bone chilled the air. I took a shallow breath out and from a glossy eye a tear almost escaped.

PART 2

The sun had set past the horizon leaving noting but a the vestiges of light that hung in the air faintly glowing. The night crept in with darkness and stars trickling in, push the azure sky into resignation. The sky from blue to orange the tall grass blown by in the restless wind seemed to sense the frigid air.

A subtle stir uncovered a strained eye with a dialated pupil that slowly adjusted to the low light. Longer moments past for a semi-conscious mind is awake behind it, and briefly forgotten why they're here, how they're here or even neither their name. It came to her in pieces, her name atleast and it was Panam, and that's when she remembered everything else like a dispersing fog. Her heart drumming in her chest when anxiety and confusion swelled as she twitched at the cold breaze on her skin and feeling her body had been contorted into an awkward position.

Re-learn her motor-functions, she clenched her hands and it had a viscous wetness to it, She slid her cheek across the glassy surfuce to look down at it.

Hung upside like a puppet held up barely by a fastened seat belt. It dangled stiffly, arms outstretched and bent in odd ways, and a head laced up by an open throat just hovering above Panam's deep red open hand. The head faced her, eyes like jarred honey gazed blankly at her and it was clear ther was no life behind them.

"Reina?" She mumbled in disbelief.

At school she rather popular for her looks, her red bow shaped lips, with eyes of a sunflower that shone like the sun itself, skin and hair that were soft and smooth. Extroverted and charismatic she drew anyone's eye towards her, and she was kind. For Panam that was the most important thing that drew her in.

Now everything that was Reina, was lost.

"Reina..."

Panam broke down into incoherent mumbling as she held back tears. She sat up to cradle her head in her arm, and breaking down into a fit of sobs and cries calling for her friend back cursing everything.

Finally, after a long momment of grief Panam looked at the head once more through tearful stained eyes and sniffling at the putrid cold air that had the stench of death blanket her. She now reluctantly crawled out gapping hole where a door had been. Taking note of the two other corpses that were in it as she exited, standing up giving her a view of a field full of tall grass. The car more than just a reduced to scrap, but the back part of the car was the only thing that bately resembled what it was. The front frame taking most of the force it bent in deformed considerably.

The trail of trampled grass lead the the road, intersecting it was the train that kept going unabated (automated perhaps) she looked left to where it would have ran its course.

On the other side of the road was an aproaching dust cloud, and with it a faint familiar sound could be heard.

PART 3

POV: Panam

The sun had set, and the moon began to glow, the flickering blinding lights of blue and red had filled the darkness.

Chatter and grunt from manual labour filled the air as they haul corpses to and from a truck covered in bag, and i eyed one Reina's corpse one final time.

I was sitting at a seperate ambulance staring distantly as I let time blended in together becoming a blur and thoughts to pause.

The paramedic person next to me made rough inspection on my body looking for injuries, he tried to hide his concern over the amount of blood that matted my hair, dyed my torn cloths and dried over my skin like a second layer.

"Surprisingly you don't seem to sustain any injuries. Your name is Reina right?"

I looked at him slowly only hearing his last question, "Reina, is in one of those body bags... My name is Panam."

"I am so... so sorry for your loss, things will better I'm sure or it." I clenched my teeth holding back the simmering emotion that began to boil, "Panam I don't see any life threatening injuries, so that police officer lady there will be taking you for this investigation."

He pointed to a lady in a purple uniform with dull details and on her was a robust gun that decorated her left thigh.

She noticed him reference her and she walked towards me cautiously, "minds if I take your report on what happened."

"No." Is what i wanted to say but i gave a soft nod. "Oh, and after. Do you have anyone I can notify?"

I arrived home after a few hours, the initial few spent washing off the blood and getting a fresh set of clothing. I later and learned the name of the detective, Cirkinsal that was handling the investigation. And something told me it was going to take a long time before justice was served with how impassionate she was.

The detective said she would try her best to figure out what happened, she gave me her sympathy and it annoyed me to deep levels. I saw how her smile of reassurance never reached her eyes sincerely like how Reina's would.

Stuck in perpetual dissonant thought for the next day, everything I did was automated and nothing felt real. I was in a different world now and everything in it was just a different shade of gray with barely colour.

I relive that day over and over in my head, seeing Reina's head, feeling it in my hands sirred something in me. I wanted to scream, to cry, to burn a house down, to be violent for the sake of violence. I felt the hate swell inside me as I relived that moment again asking myself what I could've done differently and give myself another reason to hate. Then I focused on what the man in the suit said, he said that they were taking us somewhere to someone. There was a someone out there responsible for Reina's death and unlike the kidnappers still lived. Hasn't suffered the same way I have?

Glass shattered as I snapped out of my trance, looking down at the pieces then to the food in front of me at the table. My mother and father across from me started yelling at my clumsiness, as their words fell on deaf ear I fell back into the recesses of my mind. There had to be more people involved, a gang, and it made sense to me now. I felt like from this mess around me I understood the unfairness around me.

If it's one impulsive desire I wanted right now, I wanted any sort of punishment to the bastards that did this.
