Selena got down from the cab, boiling in anger as she sighted the black car that almost crashed into theirs.
"Who the hell is the owner of this car?"Fuming in anger, she walked towards the car.
"Hey!" Knocking on the window of the car, she wasn't angry that she was almost hit because she's aware that accidents happen unexpectedly but the fact that the driver decides to remain inside the car without coming out despite being at fault for over speeding in an area like this.
Putting a little force on her knuckles, she kept on knocking on the window. The door opened and she stepped back to avoid being hit. She stood frozen as the figure inside the car came into her view.
"What do you want?" A tall, mysterious man asked. His cold aura gave out chills to her and she could tell from his demeanor that he was dangerous.
With words stuck in her throat, she gulped down her saliva. 'Who is he?' she whispered in her head. She was angry a minute ago, but just now seeing this man she felt scared. Why? She had no idea.
"What do you want?" She heard his deep voice that carried authority and intimidation. Rooted on the spot, she felt like the world was shrinking around her, all her strength and anger had been turned to fear.
Hearing no reply from her, he hissed and was about to enter his car when he felt a hand touch his hand. He turned his head to the woman who dared touch him. With his eyes blazing at her, she hissed him and avoided his gaze.
"You..." Pointing to him, Selena continued, "Who the hell do you think you are? You almost bumped into the cab and you couldn't even come to apologize." Selena, though in fear, still mustered the little courage she had against this man.
The man looked at her in surprise but regained his composure before she could notice. "How much is the damage?
"Really? How much is the damage? For a reminder, according to the law, you have committed two offenses. First, for over speeding and secondly, for not owning up to your mistake. Selena said in a loud voice.
"Owning up to my mistake, you say? I asked you how much the damage is and first, you're wrong. According to law, I'm not guilty of any offence, except proven guilty in court or don't you know that." Leaning his back on his car, "You should be thankful I'm asking for the cost of damage, but I guess you don't need it, I'll be off then."
"What an aloof man." Selena shook her head.
"I heard that. Will you mind apologizing or should I sue you for slander?" He said, looking at her with a smirk on his face.
"pfft... You really are annoying, and if you want to give anyone money for damage it should be him and not me." She said, pointing to the cab driver who just stayed inside his car while watching the scene unfolding before his eyes.
Opening his car door, the mysterious man signaled to his driver. His driver came out with an envelope and gave it to Selena, "Sorry for the accident, it was all my fault."
Selena sighed as she collected the envelope. At least not everyone was like this strange aloof man, she thought. "Please be careful next time." Hearing an apology, her anger subsided. Without taking a single glance at the strange man, she walked back to the cab.
She entered the cab and gave the driver the envelope, before relaxing on the back seat comfortably. The driver checked inside the envelope and his eyes were wide open in surprise. It was money, a lot of money.
"Thank you so much, but don't you think this is too much? We could share it." The driver said.
"No thanks, it's your money for the damage done. Use it the way you want to ". She smiled at him.
"But..." He was about to speak but she cut him off. "I said it's okay. Use it alone." Thanking her once more, he kicked start the car engine and drove off.
Meanwhile, the strange man just stood looking at Selena from his spot. When she walked back to the cab, his eyes never left her figure and it felt strange. What felt even more strange to him was her touch.
Yes, the feeling of her touch when she stopped him from entering his car, it was as if her fingers burned the spot of his skin it touched. Her fingers were warm yet it made him hot, it gave him an opposite reaction to her action.
"Who is she?" He muttered as he watched her go out of sight in the cab.
He hissed, frustrated with no answers, he entered his car, "Let's go Andrew." He signaled his driver.
Meanwhile, inside the cab, Selena's mind drifted to the strange man. 'Who was he and why did he look so dangerous?' She was lost in her thoughts to the point of not being aware of her surroundings.
Bringing her back to reality, she heard someone calling for her attention. It was the driver calling her. She looked outside the window only to discover she had reached her destination. Shrugging off the thoughts, she paid the cab man, which he declined, politely saying she had done enough for him.
Selena walked towards the entrance of Kayla's house and just before she could reach for the door, it opened. With a broad smile on her face, Kayla hugged Selena.
"Hey! Did you know I was coming?" Selena asked in Kayla's embrace.
"No, I just heard a car sound and I guessed it was you. Mum and Dad won't be coming till the weekend, so it can only be you." Kayla said as she released Selena from her embrace.
"I missed you!" Kayla heard Selena say and she replied back with a smile.
"Let's go in." Kayla walked Selena into her living room. "What should I get you?" She ushered Selena to a seat.
Seating down comfortably on Kayla's couch, Selena replied, "C'mon Kayla, I'm not a stranger here. I know where to get whatever I want around the house."
"Forgive me for that, okay, but you know it's been weeks since we spent time together. Tell me, what have you been up to?" Kayla said excitedly as she waited for Selena's reply.
Ever since Selena became best friends with Kayla, she never hid anything from Kayla. Facing Kayla, Selena began detailing everything about her, starting from her nightmare to her encounter with the mysterious man.
She also detailed her internship acceptance with a smile on her face. Kayla being the observer and listener she is, She listened to Selena's experience She felt happy for her friend but concern was also visible on her face.
"Selena, don't even think about it, okay, that was just a dream and whoever that man is you won't ever meet him again. Don't forget New York is a large City." Kayla said, masking her worries with comforting words. She was telling Selena, but on an initial note, she was actually telling herself not to worry about her friend.
"Yes I know, I'm not thinking about it anymore." Selena knew her best friend so well. She knew Kayla was worried about her but yet she appreciated it.
Chatting and the sound of laughter filled Kayla's house, oblivious to the passage of time, Selena happily shared talks with Kayla and Kayla did the same.
After more hours of chatting, Selena checked the time on her phone, exclaiming in surprise,
"Jeez!, when did it get so late?" Standing up to take her leave. "Thank you for today, Kayla."
Kayla replied with a smile and walked Selena to the door. "Thanks for visiting," Kayla said and gave Selena a hug.
