It wasn’t fair to them to think that way, though, and he knew it. McGovern had specifically sought Ben out to warn him about the way the higher-ups were thinking. He should be grateful, not resentful. He had the opportunity to correct course and be more circumspect until they could get out of the US.
McGovern himself was there, lounging on the couch and flipping through a tablet. It only looked casual. Lennon had no doubt the reports McGovern scrolled through were vitally important. “Hey there, fellas. How did the big speech go?”
“It was a speech. I know you were watching on your tablet, McGovern.” Ben snorted. “Saw the guy who’s going to save your ass the next time you decide to forget your parachute when you jump out of a plane.”
McGovern rolled his eyes. “I didn’t forget, I was pushed. And you were there, so no harm no foul.”
