Instead, he caught a cab back to Townsend’s place. He locked himself into the house, and he locked himself into the guest room, and then he curled up to go to sleep. He couldn’t keep Lennon safe if he was sleep-deprived, could he? And his whole purpose in being here was to keep Lennon safe.
Townsend called at four o’clock. “Figured you might want a wake-up call,” he said. “We’re going to Bubble at five. I thought you might want to come with us.”
Ben yawned. “Does Lennon actually want me there?”
“I’m pretty sure he doesn’t want either of us there right now, buddy.” Townsend chuckled darkly. “Dickinson didn’t warn me that Perig was the guy you screwed up with.”
“Thanks for putting it exactly that way, Townsend. I don’t think I was feeling badly enough about it.”
“Like I told you yesterday, bro. That’s the life. He needs to wise up and get over it. You’re not here for one guy. You’re here for America.”
