Unbreak Me

Leroy High—my personal hell. In our school, the system is different and rules have been set from the first day. Who set them, you must be wondering. So maybe I should enlighten you. It’s the three ridiculously good-looking, filthy rich and incredibly rude guys. They think they rule over the school just because all girls fawn over them and guys want to be them. I hate all three of them. Especially Zayn. As children, we used to be best friends. Until the day everything around me came crashing down and I had to leave. Now I’m back. And this time, I’m different. Just how different, you’re about to find out…

LEIA

Ammar pressed his lips together, weighing his options. Sighing, he first cleaned the blood off his nose and patted his jaw. Then he stood, the paper and pen falling to the floor.

Zayn crossed his arms, standing taller, posture ramrod straight.

Suddenly, Zayn was keeling over, caught off-guard by Ammar. I felt like I couldn't breathe. Before Zayn could throw a punch back, Ammar had already kicked him. I tried getting up but it was useless.

"Zayn!" I was crying now, tears falling all over the place.

"I'm fine," he gritted out through the chokehold Ammar had on him.

Ammar got him good in the stomach and before I could tell what was happening, he was by my side, forcing me into his arms.

"Stop!" I shouted, feeling my stitches about to open.

"You freaking bastard," Zayn's breathing was harsh, and he didn't seem to care one bit about his wounds, his pain as he stumbled towards us. "She just gave birth!"

I felt so powerless, so weak against Ammar. I wasn't physically strong enough to fight him off and I was a second away from being hurt beyond repair.

Ammar grinned like a Cheshire cat, gripping both my arms tightly, his gaze solely on Zayn. "You don't want me to hurt her? But why, Zayn? It's so fun. Look at how she's trembling beneath me. Don't you wonder what that's like?"

I was going to vomit. I was—I was going to break. This wasn't supposed to happen. My cheeks burned with embarrassment, not wanting Zayn to witness any of this. What must he think of me? That I put up with a guy like this for so many years?

My vision blurred but it sharpened as soon as I heard the cries coming from the crib. I jumped to look back, grimacing. Abdar Rahman. It was time to feed him.

Fortunately, it was also the time a nurse would come since she had the baby monitor. Before that, though, Zayn managed to break me free from Ammar, standing in front of me as a barrier.

"You're sick," he said, spreading his right arm in front of me. "And you're going to jail for hurting her."
