CHAPTER 3.5: Results

"In what way is this a big difference from last year?" Sherry furiously asked. All she wanted was to win. To prove to her family that she can be as successful as anyone else in the family. All she ever wishes is to be someone they can be proud of, someone who her Uncle Owen can be proud of. Is it that hard for everyone to understand?

"Everyone, please. The result is already out, and we can do nothing about it. Let's all accept that Lady Laraine is the winner for this year's convention." Oh, look at who it is. The judge who is in cahoot with Sherry is speaking up for her.

Shameless.

People like him do not deserve the title he is wearing. Soon you and Sherry's reputation is going down the drain when I reveal the card I have in my hand.

"What do you mean to accept this as it is? What kind of nonsense are you spouting, Lord Ed? This is too shameful! Even a kid can tell that her performance is not as good as everyone else's. Let me ask you, in what way did her presentation make her deserving as the winner?" Beyond every one's expectation, they did not expect Owen Laraine to say something about it. Based on his tone, he is also furious at the result.

To think that he is taking this event way too seriously surprised me. Usually, he does not care about it and only attends for appearance purposes, and that is it.

Though as I expected from Owen, he is not letting this slide. He knows that something about the result is wrong, and he will not tolerate it if one of his family members is involved. The crowd expects Owen to react negatively against the result, and their expectations are well received. Owen did not fail them at all.

However, on the other hand, Sherry is in shock that her Uncle Owen is going against her. She did not expect her Uncle Owen to be this angry at her. She probably thought he would not suspect her and be happy for her, but her expectation was not well received.

Staring at Sherry's expression, anyone can tell that she is heartbroken and about to cry anytime, but I know that this will not stop her from wanting to win whatever everyone might say. "Uncle! Why are you like this? Can't you see that I am the winner? What is so hard for you and everyone else to accept? I deserve this! And for you to reprehend me like this is unacceptable, even for you, Uncle." She said, crying and making it look like she was the victim.

"Can't see, you say? Sherry Laraine, do you think that you can fool anyone? Do you think that your presentation from earlier is good to be deserving of that title you're saying you deserve? If you think you deserve to win, why is everyone so against it? Among all these people, who do you think likes your presentation?" As soon as he finishes saying that, Sherry looks at the judges.

"Them! They're the ones who decided to make me the winner. They are the judges, and they judge everyone fair and square. Uncle, do you honestly believe that they will make a mistake in making me the winner? They have a reputation to uphold, and they will not make a mistake in making me the winner!" Seeing that Sherry pointed at them, all the judges got startled. They might be geniuses, but they sure don't know how to control their expressions. Of course, apart from those judges, there is the judge with whom Sherry made a deal, Lord Ed. He looks so confident that nothing will ever happen to him.

"Them? Are you pointing at these fools? They don't know how to judge properly then." Owen glared at the judges and especially at that one particular judge. "I will make sure that they will never step foot in any facility because of this incident."

With that, each of the judges stood up and pointed at the guy next to them. "It was him! The head judge forced us to make that decision. We were all against it! We all thought that Lady Laraine's presentation does not deserve that award."

The man they were pointing at was in shock that they did not hesitate in blaming him for forcing them. Though it is the truth, this is not what he expected. According to Callisto, he threatened them and forced them to agree with his questionable judgment.

"There are four of you versus him. Why are you people feeling threatened by someone like him? His reputation might be good, but he is not as good as anybody else here. He is just someone who pretends that he succeeds in something." Owen harshly said, and I must say, I almost laughed out loud because of that, especially at how red that guy's face was.

"Lord Laraine, what kind of insult are you spouting now?! Your words can easily cause a huge misunderstanding for everyone here. Please! Take back what you said just now." He might be good at pretending that everything he accomplished is his work, but he sure doesn't know how to control his anger.

"Why would he take back what he said? After all, he is speaking the truth and nothing but the truth." I said out loud. I think it is about time to finish this conversation. The longer they keep talking about this, the more I lose interest.

"Lady Solace, you have no right to interfere without conversation." The judge with an angry expression on his face. Being humiliated in front of so many people can bring an ugly look to him.

"That may be true, but let's all be honest here. We don't want this to drag any longer, so can we conclude that you are what Lord Laraine is saying, and Lady Laraine is someone who does not deserve that award." I said casually. As much as I want to reveal what I have in my hands, I will wait and announce it at the right time.

"For what right do you have to say all that?! I DESERVE THIS! I WORK HARD FOR THIS, TO ACHIEVE THIS, AND YOU'RE SAYING I DON'T? HAH! YOU MUST BE JEALOUS OF ME THEN. I'M THE WINNER AND NOT YOU!" Sherry shouted. Everyone looks at her weirdly. No matter the situation, a lady like her, part of a noble family, must not lose her composure. The moment they show their ugly side, it will be the talk at every social gathering.
