31. Still Unpleasant
"Game, is it? I'm sorry but, I can't play along with your game."
Indra's clone deactivates the Shape Shifting skill and returns to his original appearance. It surprises the woman who instinctively takes a step back.
"Y-you, an awakener!"
*BAM*
The door suddenly opens forcefully.
"To be precise, I am an awakener and that guy is the manifestation of my skill."
Indra is the one breaking the door. He rushed here after receiving the report from the captured clones. He can communicate with his clones no matter how far they are, so he knows what happened from the beginning.
The woman tries to run away, but black chains suddenly come out of the floor and bind her. She tries to break free but the chains won't budge at all. The difference in power between her and Indra is just too much, after all.
"I heard everything you said to my clone. While your past is so saddening, it doesn't justify what you've done. Had you just stopped after getting your revenge on your uncle, then I wouldn't do anything. Even I would also do what you did if that happened to me. But you were killing other people after that, so I need to do something because people are now suspecting me as the murderer even though it's you who did it."
"S-suspecting you?... !? You are the mysterious hunter they kept talking about."
"Bingo! They don't know my real identity, but it still feels shitty to be suspected of crimes I didn't do. That's why I was looking for you, but didn't get any results for days, so I tried to make this bait and it worked."
"DAMN YOU!"
"Woah, really fiery, aren't you? Well, the real reason I need to stop you is because it will endanger my life and my family. While you might not target my family because no one has a harelip, your actions can cause sparks. If I don't stop you quickly, more awakeners will commit crimes because they think they will still be safe after that. A high crime rate is something that will surely disturb my life."
"Tch! Too much talk. You want to stop me, right? Hurry up and kill me then."
"Well, that's the plan from the start. You have killed a few innocents, so I can't just let you go even though you are a woman and have a very tragic past. But, let me grant you a wish before I kill you."
"Huh? Why would you do that?"
"Hmm, let's say I sympathize with your past, but what you did was still wrong, so I just can't let you go. I'll grant you a wish as long as it's acceptable."
Indra just stands there while the woman stares at him confusedly.
"Then, have sex with me."
"No way."
"So quick!"
"You seem to be in your 30's. I don't want to do it with an old lady like you."
"Tsk, damn kid! Fine. Just give me a quick death and bury me beside my parents."
"You sure just want that?"
"Yeah, so hurry up."
The woman then tells him her name and where her parents' graves are. Indra nods before taking a very sharp sword out of his inventory. It's a sword he looted from a dungeon and used by a boss.
"Goodbye then."
He swings the sword to her neck and he cuts it cleanly. Although he isn't proficient with swords, his strength allows him to create a clean cut on a much weaker target than him. It's his 3rd time killing a human and it still feels just as unpleasant.
As he thought, he gets some XP and like when he killed the previous 2 humans, he got more XP than monsters of the same rank. It's not enough to make him level up, but it's still a lot. Still, it doesn't make killing humans pleasant in the least bit.
"Sigh, time to fulfill my promise."
He puts the corpse in his inventory and leaves the house. Then he goes home to sleep. He wants to bury her quickly, but her parents' graves are not in this city. They're quite far, so he can only do it tomorrow.
The next night, he goes to the graves' location which is rather far as it is in the countryside. Indra searches for the graves described by the woman and finds them quickly. There is a new grave nearby, so there is scattered soil everywhere.
"Oh, I'm quite lucky. No one will realize the grave that I'll make because of this freshly dug soil. I was thinking of how to hide her grave because it would be strange for a new grave to suddenly appear, but I guess I don't need to worry then. Still, now that I look around carefully, this place actually has some new graves, not just this one."
Indra feels that something is strange, but he doesn't want to think too much about it. He quickly digs a big hole for the grave with his clones. Then he puts the corpse inside before closing it and makes it look like nothing has been done there.
He is about to leave when he suddenly feels something, so he checks his Map. A Gate actually appears nearby and it's an A-Rank Gate. This is a big stroke of luck because he may reach level 100 if he clears this dungeon.
"Hmm, it should be fine even if I'm late to go home because I've left a clone in my bedroom. I've experimented with my Clone skill a lot and my clones won't disappear unless I dispel them or they lose all their HP, so it won't disappear even if I go for hours."
Indra quickly goes to the newly formed Gate. It is located in the center of the closest village. The village is quite dark and no one is out of their house as it is almost midnight. The villagers will only find the Gate in the morning, so it's best if Indra clears it before they wake up.
He quickly enters the Gate and to his surprise, the monsters are gathering near the Gate. They are gigantic centipedes that crawl on the very wide dungeon walls. The dungeon is a cave-type, but it's very big.
These giant centipedes look similar to the ones that Jin Woo faced when he gets a penalty, except for the color as these guys are purple. They also have black liquid coming out of their mouths and Indra guesses it is poisonous.
"Hmm, this will be tricky."
Indra quickly casts all his buff spells on himself and debuff spells on the monsters. He casts those spells while running around avoiding the attacks. After that, he hardens his body and uses lightning magic to cover his arms and legs which he will use to attack the monsters.
These guys have much tougher bodies than the Orcs. Their carapaces are the toughest thing he ever hit so far. He can only crack those carapaces even with his full-power punch. So he needs a few attacks just to break the carapaces and kill them.
"Damn! I know I didn't raise my strength stat nicely, but I should still be stronger than average A-Rankers. These guys are really tough."
Indra also needs to be mindful of their poison which makes the battle even harder. Luckily, with his high sense stat and Golden Eyes, he can see their movements in slow motion and dodge all their attacks easily. Besides, they are slow and their attacks are easy to read although they are really strong and durable.
That's why the battle isn't difficult, but it takes time because of how tough the monsters' bodies are. Prolonged battles also mean he needs to use a lot more energy. So when he's done with the normal giant centipedes and about to face the boss, Indra has accumulated a lot of fatigue.
"Huft, huft! I'll take a short break before facing the boss. That guy is thrice the size of the normal ones and I'm sure it is also much tougher. It will be another battle of attrition, so I need to recover my energy first."
He has leveled up to level 99 after killing those giant centipedes. After killing the boss, he'll finally pass level 100. But he needs to be patient and recover his energy. He eats some biscuits & jerkies, and also drinks water while resting.
He is ready after 15 minutes of rest and then he fights the boss. This boss is certainly more powerful and durable than the normal giant centipedes. But Indra still can defeat it even though it takes half an hour just to kill it because it is very tough.
"Damn bastard finally died. Such a troublesome fellow. But now I have finally become level 101!"
