Chapter 48: One Thought Leads to Another

Days pass as I find myself less interested in performance and more intrigued by what lies hidden in the Kirjasto. I have developed a nasty habit of sneaking books into the home. While Laulu crafts in her workshop, I will read in secret. I have made a hiding place beneath a busted floorboard. As I hear Laulu's footsteps exit the room, down the book goes into its secret space.

Regret hangs overhead as I climb out of bed in the morning. I glance at a sleeping Laulu. With a light kiss on her cheek, I scamper outside. Dark clouds sway in the sky. 'Today's performance will be canceled.' The thought should be more of a disappointment. Yet, my eagerness to peruse through old magical texts heightens. 'If we cannot put on a show, then at least we will have more time to study!' I sigh at the thought of leaving Laulu for an extended amount of time.

"I'm sorry sweet Laulu," I whisper while glancing behind at our home. "But we have to make the best out of a rainy day."
